For a confirmed PVC inflatable boat, Polymarine 3026 is a marine-specific two-part adhesive with a published repair procedure; RH Adhesives HH-66 is a single-part vinyl cement whose manufacturer lists inflatable boats as an application. Neither is established as a universal winner. Match the adhesive to the tube material and repair, then follow that product’s instructions—not another adhesive’s cure schedule.
First, confirm the boat’s tube material
Do not choose glue based on appearance alone. Identify whether the inflatable is PVC or Hypalon using the boat manufacturer’s documentation or Polymarine’s fabric-identification guide. Polymarine offers separate adhesives for PVC and Hypalon, and RH Adhesives explicitly says HH-66 is not appropriate for Hypalon. Using a vinyl/PVC adhesive on the wrong fabric can leave a repair that does not bond as intended.
If you cannot confirm the material, ask the boat manufacturer or a qualified repairer before applying adhesive. This matters especially for older boats, replacement tubes, or repairs near accessories made from a different material.

When a DIY patch is—and is not—the right repair
Polymarine’s guide describes PVC patching for holes and sets a specific threshold: for damage larger than 75 mm in any direction, it calls for a patch on the inside as well as the outside. The inside patch should extend at least 30 mm beyond the damage on each side and have rounded corners. This is a product-specific procedure, not a universal rule for every inflatable or adhesive.
A patch procedure may not address a failed seam, deteriorated fabric, damage around a transom or high-load fitting, or a repair that could affect the boat’s warranty. For those cases, consult the boat manufacturer or a qualified repairer rather than assuming glue alone is suitable.

Polymarine 3026 PVC patch procedure
The following sequence reflects Polymarine’s PVC repair guide and applies to its specified system. For HH-66 or another product, use that product’s own preparation, application, and cure instructions instead.
- Set up a suitable work area. Work somewhere warm, dry, and well ventilated. Polymarine warns that high humidity can cause blooming and that naked flames are unsafe around the solvents. Do not use a gas fire or naked-flame heat source.
- Gather the repair materials. Polymarine’s procedure uses PVC patch material, Polymarine 2903 cleaner, 3026 adhesive and curative, a brush, a lint-free cloth, and masking tape. A roller or smoother can help press the patch down.
- Prepare the surfaces. Clean the patch and the tube’s bonding area with Polymarine 2903, then allow the solvent to flash off. Both bonding surfaces should be clean and dry before adhesive is applied.
- Mix only what you can use in time. Mix adhesive and curative at the manufacturer’s stated 25:1 ratio. Polymarine gives the mixed adhesive a pot life of about four hours and says not to use it after that period.
- Apply adhesive to both sides and align carefully. Follow Polymarine’s two-coat contact-bond process, observing the instructions between coats. Position the patch accurately while the adhesive is tacky; once the surfaces contact, there may be little opportunity to reposition it.
- Press out trapped air. Press or roll from the center of the patch outward toward its edges. This helps remove air pockets and bring the surfaces into contact.
- Allow the stated time before use. Polymarine’s guide says to wait at least six hours before pressurizing the tube. Its product information states 48 hours for full cure and maximum bond strength at seven days. Those are distinct milestones: permission to pressurize under the guide is not the same as full cure or maximum bond strength.
Solvent safety and material-specific cautions
Polymarine identifies butanone, acetone, and ethyl acetate in 3026 adhesive and warns that it is highly flammable, can irritate eyes, and may cause drowsiness or dizziness. Provide ventilation, use suitable protective equipment, and keep the product away from heat, sparks, and flames. Read the current container label and safety data sheet before use. RH Adhesives provides HH-66 safety-data documents from its product page; check the current documents and container warnings for that product as well.

Polymarine states that PVC adhesive does not adhere directly to rubber. Its guide describes a specialized procedure for certain rubber accessories involving Hypalon adhesive as a primer before PVC adhesive. Do not treat that as a general instruction to combine adhesives: verify the accessory material and procedure with the manufacturer first.

Repair-supplies checklist
- Adhesive explicitly compatible with the confirmed tube fabric.
- Patch material compatible with that fabric and sized for the damage.
- The cleaner or surface preparation specified by the adhesive manufacturer.
- For a two-part adhesive, the correct curative and a way to measure the specified ratio.
- Brush, lint-free cloth, masking tape, and a roller or smoother for pressing the patch.
- A warm, dry, ventilated workspace and enough time to observe the product’s instructions before pressurizing or using the boat.
