Most importantly, CUSTOM directs installers to keep the assembly dry and allow seven days of cure before running water.
Which premixed grout is suitable for a shower?
Premixed or ready-to-use grout is not automatically suitable for every shower. MAPEI’s guidance notes that some ready-to-use formulations can be appropriate for residential shower floors, while emphasizing that the product formulation matters. Check the current technical sheet for the specific grout and intended application rather than choosing by the word “premixed” alone. MAPEI’s shower-grout guidance explains this distinction.
CUSTOM Fusion Pro: the clearest fit in the available product information
CUSTOM lists Fusion Pro Single Component Grout for interior and exterior walls and floors, including shower floors. Its stated joint-width range is 1/16 to 1/2 inch. This is a recommendation based on stated application scope, not independent comparative testing. The available manufacturer information does not establish that Fusion Pro is universally the best grout, or establish comparative price or value.

Check tile, joint size, and exposure before buying
- Joint width: Fusion Pro is listed for joints from 1/16 to 1/2 inch. CUSTOM cautions against irregularly shaped or spaced tile or stone when joint width or depth exceeds 1/2 inch.
- Surface sensitivity: The grout contains silica aggregate that may scratch some finishes. Porous or rough tile can require pre-sealing; test a small area when compatibility is uncertain.
- Exposure: CUSTOM excludes Fusion Pro from steam rooms and submerged uses. It also excludes movement joints and changes of plane, high-heat areas, harsh or continuous chemical exposure, and high-pressure cleaning.
- Changes of plane and movement joints: Use an appropriate sealant there as the manufacturer directs; grout is not the product to fill those joints.
These limitations come from the CUSTOM technical data sheet. A shower that will be used as a steam room or another excluded environment needs a different product and system specified for that exposure.

Plan for the full cure before using the shower
Ready-to-use grout cures by evaporation, so a freshly grouted shower must remain dry while the product cures. CUSTOM’s shower instructions call for seven days before running water. High humidity, poor ventilation, and cooler conditions can slow evaporation and extend cure time; provide ventilation and protect the assembly from water. For installations using a mortar bed, CUSTOM’s instructions say the bed must cure for at least seven days before tiling. This is product guidance; confirm the required sequence and cure conditions in the current instructions for the exact assembly.

Install Fusion Pro in a shower
- Confirm compatibility. Check the current technical sheet for the tile or stone, joint width and depth, and exposure. Do not use the product in excluded conditions.
- Prepare the assembly. Make sure the tile installation and substrate meet the applicable system instructions. If using a mortar bed, observe the stated minimum cure before tiling.
- Keep the shower floor dry while grouting walls. CUSTOM’s shower instructions specifically advise protecting the floor from water during wall grouting.
- Apply the grout without adding water. It is ready to use; do not mix in water. Follow the current package and technical instructions for application and cleanup.
- Dry and ventilate the assembly. Keep the joints and surrounding assembly dry, with ventilation to support evaporation. Do not rush cure by exposing it to shower water.
- Wait before water exposure. Allow the full seven-day cure specified in CUSTOM’s shower instructions before running water. Cooler or humid conditions may extend the time needed.
What “easy and efficient” does—and does not—mean
A ready-to-use grout removes the need to mix grout powder and water, but it does not remove the need to verify compatibility, protect sensitive tile finishes, use sealant at movement joints, or wait for the specified cure. CUSTOM describes Fusion Pro as ready to use and easy to spread and clean; treat that as the manufacturer’s product description, not a guarantee that every tile installation will be quick or trouble-free.
For a shower, efficiency means choosing a formulation approved for the intended exposure and planning the work around its cure. If the project involves steam, immersion, unusually wide or deep joints, or a delicate tile surface, resolve that compatibility question before grouting rather than relying on the general “premixed” label.
