The best portable electric frying pan depends on what you need to cook and where you’ll store it—not on portability alone. For large meals that need compact storage, consider the 16-inch Presto Foldaway; for a smaller everyday skillet, the 12-inch GreenPan Bistro; and for a compact pan with a stated temperature range and removable cooking pan, the Zojirushi EP-PBC10. All three are plug-in appliances, not battery-powered pans, and the specifications below come from their manufacturers rather than hands-on tests.

| Presto 16-inch Electric Foldaway 06857 | 16-inch cooking area | 1,500 watts; 120 volts AC | Fold-down handles detach the pan from its base; base nests inside the pan. Which pan fits your kitchen and cooking?
Presto Foldaway: prioritize cooking area and storage
The Presto 06857 is the largest of these options at 16 inches. Its fold-down handles allow the pan to detach from the base, which nests inside the pan for storage. That design suits a buyer who wants a large cooking surface but needs to pack the appliance away between uses. The trade-off is that a 16-inch pan still needs room on the counter while cooking.
Presto describes the cooking surface as ceramic nonstick and PFAS-free. Treat that as the manufacturer’s coating claim, not an independent assessment.

GreenPan Bistro: a smaller everyday option
GreenPan lists the Bistro at 12 inches, 3.3 quarts and 7.32 pounds. Those figures make it easier to compare capacity and handling with a larger skillet, though the product page does not establish how much food it will hold for a particular recipe. GreenPan describes its coating as ceramic nonstick and PFAS-free.
For cleanup, GreenPan says the skillet and lid are dishwasher safe. Its instructions call for removing the temperature probe and wiping it clean; follow the current care directions for the appliance.
Rank #2
- GENEROUS COOKING SURFACE: 12 x 12 inch cooking area provides ample space for family meals
- NONSTICK CERAMIC: Durable, safe ceramic coating ensures effortless food release and easy cleaning, dishwasher safe skillet and glass lid
- ADJUSTABLE TEMPERATURE: Precise temperature control from 200-400°F with removable temperature probe for versatile cooking options
- TEMPERED GLASS LID: See-through lid traps in heat and moisture while making it easy to monitor cooking progress
- COOL-TOUCH HANDLES: Side handles stay cool for safe and comfortable lifting and carrying
Zojirushi EP-PBC10: compact pan with stated heat range
The Zojirushi’s cooking pan measures 10.5 inches in diameter and 2.25 inches deep, making it the smallest cooking area among these three. Zojirushi lists a temperature range of 176°F to 430°F and says the removable pan can also be used on a stovetop burner. Its magnetic power cord is another distinct design feature. Check the manual for any conditions or limitations on using the pan separately.
Check power, placement and safety before buying
Each option requires an electrical outlet: the GreenPan and Presto are listed at 1,500 watts, while the Zojirushi is 1,300 watts. If you plan to use a skillet with an RV or portable power source, compare the appliance’s voltage and wattage rating with the source’s capacity and follow both sets of instructions. A product being described as portable does not mean it runs on a battery or is suitable for every outdoor setting.

- EFFORTLESS CLEAN-UP: Fully immersible in your sink after removing the temperature control probe. The dishwasher-safe skillet and glass lid (top rack) make after-meal cleanup fast. Thick cast aluminum body resists rust and warping for lasting durability. Scratch-resistant surface holds up to everyday use — use wooden, silicone, nylon, or plastic utensils to preserve the non-stick coating.
- HONEYCOMB NON-STICK COATING: Marbleized stone-finish surface releases food effortlessly with long-lasting durability. Scratch-resistant surface holds up to everyday use — use wooden, silicone, nylon, or plastic utensils to preserve the non-stick coating.
- RAPID, EVEN HEAT: Fully embedded M-shaped heating element covers the entire pan floor for consistent heat with no hot spots. Precision trigger-release temperature probe adjusts from 200°F to 400°F and cycles automatically to hold your exact setting. On first use, let the skillet heat and cycle 2–3 times before adding food for accurate temperature distribution.
- XL 16" x 13" DEEP PAN: 3.15" high sidewalls and a tempered glass vented lid lock in moisture and reduce splatter while you monitor cooking. Integrated easy-pour spout lets you drain excess juices cleanly. Perfect for frying chicken, roasting, braising, and one-pot meals. Allow the lid to cool before placing it on a cold surface to prevent thermal shock.
- FAMILY-SIZED 10.5 QUART: Serves 6 to 8 people. Cook pancakes, stir-fry, grilled cheese, casseroles, eggs, and more — all in one pan. Temperature range of 200°F–400°F handles everything from a low simmer to a high sear.
- Measure the cooking spot and storage space. Match the pan’s cooking area to the meals you make, then check whether the appliance and its cord can be stored safely.
- Confirm your electrical supply. Check the model’s rating and the power source’s capacity before use; do not assume that every RV, campsite or portable power station can support the appliance.
- Read the model-specific manual. Check directions for placement, hot oil, cleaning and permitted uses. For example, the Presto 06857 manual says not to use that skillet outdoors.
GreenPan’s buying guidance recommends comparing size, adjustable temperature control, wattage, material, safety features, cleanup and accessories. Its suggestion that 12 inches is a typical family or meal-prep size, and its 1,300–1,500-watt recommendation, are GreenPan’s guidance rather than independent standards. Its separate camping article should not be read as approval for outdoor use of every electric skillet.

How should you clean an electric skillet?
Use the care instructions for your exact model. GreenPan says its Bistro skillet and lid are dishwasher safe, but the temperature probe should be removed and wiped clean. Do not assume those directions apply to another brand or model; consult its manual before washing or immersing any component.
Rank #4
- PFAS-FREE CERALAST CERAMIC COATING — Safer Than Standard Non-Stick No PFAS, no PTFE, no worries. The proprietary Ceralast ceramic coating is 4x more durable than standard non-stick, resists scratching and peeling, and releases food effortlessly. For best results, use wooden or silicone utensils to keep the coating performing like new.
- EXTRA-DEEP 3" SIDEWALLS — LESS SPLATTER, MORE FOOD The 3-inch deep walls contain splatter, hold larger one-pan meals, and give you enough room to braise, steam, and stir-fry without spilling over. Perfect for feeding 4–6 people in a single pan.
- PRECISE TEMPERATURE CONTROL FROM 200°F TO 400°F The removable thermostat probe lets you dial in the exact heat you need — from a gentle simmer to a full sear. A built-in indicator light cycles on and off to confirm your set temperature is being maintained throughout cooking for consistent, even results every time.
- TEMPERED GLASS LID — LOCKS IN MOISTURE, REDUCES MESS Watch your food cook without lifting the lid. The tempered glass lid seals in heat and moisture for juicier, more flavorful results, while helping reduce splatters. Cool-touch knob and handles keep your hands safe throughout.
- FULLY DISHWASHER SAFE (SKILLET + LID) Just remove the temperature probe and put the skillet and lid straight into the dishwasher. The heavy-duty cast aluminum body resists warping and corrosion for lasting, reliable performance wash after wash.
Can you bake in an electric skillet?
That depends on the model and the recipe. Check the manual before using a skillet for baking, including any directions about lids, temperature settings and cookware. Do not infer that a pan’s temperature range alone makes every baking method suitable.
Can you deep-fry in an electric skillet?
Do not assume an electric skillet is suitable for deep frying. The Presto manual states, “This appliance is not intended for deep frying foods,” referring specifically to model 06857. For any other skillet, check its manual for explicit instructions on hot oil and frying before use.
