A reusable floating mesh pet-hair catcher may collect some loose fur in the wash, but there is not enough independent evidence to name one as the best or promise fur-free clothes. Fit matters: the Fur & Fresh catcher, for example, is intended to move freely in a roomy top-load washer, and its seller does not recommend it for tightly sealed front-loaders or overfilled drums. If you are replacing a washer, a model with built-in pet-hair filtration is another option to compare.
What a washing-machine pet-hair catcher does
Most reusable washer catchers use a floating form or frame with a mesh pouch that is meant to collect loose fur and lint as laundry moves through the wash. Construction, cleaning instructions, and product claims differ by seller; a product description alone does not establish how much hair it will remove from a particular load.

A reusable tacky remover is a different format. A FurZapper brochure hosted by Tractor Supply describes its product as reusable and intended for both washer and dryer use, but that description is not independent proof of effectiveness: FurZapper brochure.

Will a floating catcher remove dog or cat hair?
It may collect some loose fur, but results are uncertain. The available information does not establish a reliable removal rate across washer types, loads, or fabrics, and one marketplace listing included a customer report of finding no cat hair on the catcher. Treat it as a possible helper, not a way to guarantee hair-free laundry.

Check washer compatibility before buying
Compatibility is product-specific. Fur & Fresh says its catcher needs visible water and room to float and move, recommends roomy top-load cycles, and does not recommend its product for tightly sealed front-load washers or overfilled drums. Follow the instructions for the exact catcher and your washer rather than assuming every floating design will work in every machine: Fur & Fresh product instructions.

- Washer type: Check whether the seller explicitly supports your machine, especially if it is a front-loader.
- Room in the drum: A catcher that needs to float may not move as intended in an overfilled load.
- Reuse and cleaning: Check how the mesh or tacky surface is cleaned and dried, and whether the instructions suit your routine.
- Evidence: Distinguish a seller’s claims and customer reviews from independent testing; the information available here does not establish a dependable ranking among generic catchers.
How to use and clean one
For its own catcher, Fur & Fresh instructs users to place it loosely in the drum with the laundry, avoid overfilling, remove collected debris after the wash, rinse the mesh, and air-dry it before reuse. The seller notes that fabric, water level, cycle, and load size can affect results. Use these as that product’s directions, not as universal instructions for all catchers.
Keep up with washer and dryer maintenance
A catcher does not replace routine appliance care. Fur & Fresh explicitly describes its catcher as a reusable helper rather than a substitute for cleaning the washer filter or lint trap. The available evidence does not establish that a generic catcher prevents drain clogs or protects a washer pump, so do not buy one on the assumption that it will provide that protection.

Maytag’s product page says, “The built-in Pet Pro Filter visibly removes pet hair.” Its “Removes 5x More Pet Hair” statement is a manufacturer claim: the footnote compares a Normal cycle with the Pet Pro Filter and option against a cycle using a traditional agitator without the Pet Pro Filter and option, and says results vary by fabric and type of pet hair. It is not a universal independent test result: Maytag Pet Pro product information.
Compare the exact model’s filter, dryer lint-trap design, capacity, price, and other laundry needs. The available information does not establish current prices or model-by-model performance, so check the specifications for the models you are considering.
