There is no verified overall winner among the hot-tub ozone generators covered here. DEL’s published options include the MCD-50 for hot tubs up to 1,000 gallons and the Spa Solar Eclipse Plus for hot tubs and swim spas up to 3,000 gallons; Balboa also offers its Ultrazo3ne family for spa and bath applications. These are manufacturer-documented examples, not independently tested rankings. The right choice depends on your spa’s exact electrical and plumbing setup, not gallon capacity alone.

Which model should you consider?
For a documented replacement example
The DEL MCD-50 is a clear starting point to investigate if your spa calls for a compatible DEL unit and is within the manufacturer’s stated 1,000-gallon range. Its listed kit contents are useful when comparing what comes in the box: tubing, a backflow preventer and mounting hardware are included, while the Mazzei injector kit is separate. That does not establish that it matches your existing spa pack or plumbing.
For a system with specific electrical requirements
The Spa Eclipse lists a broad 100–250V range and auto voltage sensing, alongside backflow resistance and an ozone indicator. Those features do not make it universally compatible: connector, control system, flow and injector arrangement still need to match. The Solar Eclipse models combine ozone with UV-C; the Plus version is listed for larger spas, up to 3,000 gallons, and as ozone plus UV-C/AOP.

When your spa specifies another component family
Balboa’s Ultrazo3ne family is worth checking when the spa documentation calls for a Balboa component. The available 2022 sheet describes 120V and 240V variants, but it does not establish that every Ultrazo3ne model fits every Balboa-equipped spa. Prozone PZ3-X is another supplier-listed option for portable-spa and custom applications; verify the particular installation with a qualified provider.
How to check compatibility before buying
A gallon rating is only one part of the fit. Use your spa documentation and have the spa manufacturer or dealer confirm the replacement against the installed equipment.

- Identify the existing equipment. Record the ozonator model from its label, and note the spa make and model. Check the spa manual and equipment-pack documentation for the specified replacement.
- Confirm electrical fit. Match the required voltage, frequency, plug or connector, and control arrangement. A voltage range or auto-sensing feature alone does not confirm compatibility.
- Check water-flow and injection requirements. Confirm circulation flow, injector arrangement, and any required tubing material with the spa maker or dealer.
- Verify backflow protection and included parts. Check whether the system needs a check valve or backflow preventer, mounting hardware, tubing or a separate injector kit, and whether those parts are included with the exact model you are considering.
- Have installation assessed. Electrical and plumbing work should follow the applicable codes. Acura Spa Systems says licensed contractors should perform that work; do not assume a replacement is a plug-and-play job.
Replacing a failed ozonator: check the rest of the system
A failed check valve or clogged injector can produce symptoms that resemble a failed ozone generator. Before replacing the generator, ask the spa manufacturer, dealer or qualified technician to assess those components and confirm the correct replacement parts. There is no universal cross-reference for spa brands and equipment packs in the cited manufacturer materials.

Ozone equipment is described by manufacturers as sanitation equipment, but that does not establish that ozone replaces the spa’s primary sanitizer or routine water testing. Follow the spa manual and current water-care instructions for your specific system.

Do not mistake an EPA establishment number for approval
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency says pesticide-device claims generally are not submitted for premarket agency review. An establishment number identifies a production facility; it is not EPA product approval, certification, endorsement or a finding that a product is effective or safe. Keep indoor-air ozone warnings in context
EPA’s page on ozone generators sold as air cleaners warns about inhalation exposure in indoor air and states, “Ozone is a toxic gas with vastly different chemical and toxicological properties from oxygen.” That guidance is about ozone generated into indoor air, not a direct evaluation of the spa models listed above. What certification listings can—and cannot—tell you
NSF’s official NSF/ANSI 50 listing page, current as of October 6, 2026, includes Zodiac/Fluidra ozone-generator models CD-2 through CD-1200. It describes the shown Level 1 listing as meeting specified Sections 13.19 and 13.20 testing requirements. NSF/ANSI 50 covers equipment for pools, spas, hot tubs and other recreational water facilities, but this listing does not certify the DEL or Balboa spa models in the comparison above.
