Check ticking, chimes, and quiet-hour controls
Sound can determine whether a clock belongs in a living room, bedroom, office, or quiet dining area. Product descriptions may distinguish ticking from quieter movement, but claims such as “silent” or “sweep” should be verified for the exact model rather than inferred from its appearance.
For a chiming clock, check which melody or chime options it has, how often it sounds, and whether it can be silenced at night.
