The right nut grinder depends on the result you want: a food processor offers control over chopped or finely ground nuts, a compact spice-and-nut grinder suits small batches, and a dedicated mill is for making spreadable nut butter. These products serve different jobs, so the useful comparison is output, batch size, texture control, cleanup, and home versus commercial use—not a single overall ranking.
Choose by the result you need
| Desired result | Best-fit equipment | Why it fits |
|---|---|---|
| Coarsely chopped nuts for toppings or baking | Food processor or food chopper | Pulse control helps stop at a coarse texture. KitchenAid recommends a food processor’s multipurpose blade for chopping nuts. KitchenAid’s nut-preparation guidance was published November 3, 2025. |
| Fine dry nut meal in a small quantity | Food processor or compact spice-and-nut grinder | A processor gives control over texture; a dedicated compact grinder is a plausible choice for small batches. Cuisinart explicitly markets the SG-10 for nuts and spices. |
| Spreadable nut butter | Dedicated nut-butter mill | These machines are designed to turn nuts into butter. A general grinder or blender should not be assumed to deliver the same result. |
KitchenAid notes that rapidly rotating blender blades can overprocess nuts into paste. Dry ground nuts and nut butter are different outputs; choose for the texture you actually need rather than assuming a blender will make an even dry grind.
Options by batch size and setting
Compact home batches: Cuisinart SG-10
Cuisinart’s US product page lists the SG-10 Spice and Nut Grinder with a 200-watt motor, 90 g bowl, push-top control, safety interlock, dishwasher-safe lid and removable bowl, and an 18-month limited warranty. These are manufacturer-published specifications, not independent performance-test results. Check the current listing for regional version, availability, and price.
European small-quantity option: Cuisinart SG21BE
Cuisinart Europe says the SG21BE can grind nuts and seeds and lists dual stainless-steel bowls, pulse operation, and a three-year guarantee. The cited page showed €69.90 and low stock when accessed; that is a regional, time-sensitive listing, not a general price or availability claim.

Flexible home prep: food processor or chopper
A food processor is a practical choice if you want both nut preparation and other kitchen functions. KitchenAid recommends its multipurpose blade and says a smaller work bowl is useful for very small jobs. Follow the instructions for your specific appliance; KitchenAid suggests low or pulse for chopped nuts and high or pulse for finer grinding, with settings adjusted to the machine.

Waring positions the Pro Prep Chopper Grinder for professional food preparation. Its product page lists separate chopping and grinding bowls, nuts among the grinding ingredients, a 3-cup capacity, 420 watts, and a one-year limited warranty. Nut-butter production: Hampton Farms PN2 and WEnutbutter WB02
Hampton Farms describes the PN2 as commercial equipment for grinding peanuts, almonds, cashews, pecans, macadamias, hazelnuts, pistachios, and nut stock into spreadable butter. The company says the PN1 was discontinued in 2011, so it should not be treated as a current recommendation.

Hampton Farms nut and peanut butter grinders
WEnutbutter describes the WB02 for shops, food businesses, and home kitchens. Its manufacturer says it handles nuts up to roughly 22–24 mm and describes routine cleaning as taking no more than 10 minutes. These are vendor statements, not independent measurements; ask about suitability if you use an unusual nut and request a custom quote to establish pricing.
How to grind nuts without overshooting the texture
- Fit the food processor with its multipurpose blade and add clean whole nuts.
- Secure the lid, then pulse in short bursts. KitchenAid suggests low or pulse for chopped nuts and high or pulse for finer grinding; adjust for your appliance and stop when the texture suits the recipe.
- Wait for the blade to stop before opening the lid. Switch off or unplug the appliance before removing the blade.
KitchenAid’s guidance puts the distinction plainly: “When chopping or grinding nuts, a food processor is best for achieving the desired coarse or fine texture for your ingredients.” The settings are a starting point, not a universal recipe: appliance design, quantity, and the desired result affect how much processing is needed.

What to compare before choosing
- Output: Decide whether you need a coarse chop, fine dry grind, or spreadable butter.
- Batch size: A small spice-grinder bowl, a food-chopper or processor bowl, and a commercial mill serve different quantities and workflows.
- Control: Pulse operation makes it easier to stop before nuts become too fine or oily.
- Cleanup: Check which parts are removable or dishwasher-safe. Only rely on those features where the manufacturer specifies them; dedicated mills may have their own cleaning routine.
- Use setting: Match a home cooking appliance to household prep and professional equipment to a commercial workflow.
- Evidence: The specifications above come from manufacturers. They do not establish comparative performance, and no independent comparative test results are available here.
Prices, availability, and warranty terms can vary by country and change. The SG21BE details apply to the cited Cuisinart Europe page; the SG-10 and WCG75 figures are manufacturer listings, not test findings. For mills that require a custom quote, confirm the exact model, price, and suitability before purchase.
