A multi-temperature kettle lets you heat water to a selected target below a full boil, which is useful when you want different brewing temperatures without guessing when to stop the kettle. The key buying distinction is whether a model offers a fixed menu of presets, a genuinely adjustable target, or both: “temperature control” does not automatically mean one-degree adjustment.
Presets or adjustable temperature: which control do you need?
Preset buttons make common choices quick, but they limit you to the temperatures the manufacturer programmed. An adjustable control gives you more choice, though its increments and available range vary by model. Check the exact model’s manual before buying; a category page may describe several kettles with different controls.
- Choose presets if the listed options match the drinks you regularly make and you value simple operation.
- Choose adjustable control if you want to enter a target rather than select from a fixed menu. Confirm the temperature increments and whether the display uses Fahrenheit, Celsius, or both.
- Choose both if a model provides convenient presets as well as a way to change the target; verify that combination on the exact product.
For example, Breville’s current US Temp Select page lists five settings for black, green, white and oolong tea, plus French press coffee (Breville US Temp Select). Chefman says some of its models have five presets, while advanced digital models may offer up to seven; it also describes variable settings on some products (Chefman temperature-control guide). These are manufacturer descriptions, not independent findings about accuracy or brewing results.
Do not treat any one temperature as a universal rule for a tea style. The suitable target can depend on the leaves, water and personal preference. Use the specific kettle manual or a trusted brewing authority for suggested starting points rather than assuming that boiling water will ruin every delicate tea.

What the available model evidence establishes
The sources provide useful examples of control types, but not a like-for-like, independently measured comparison of current models. The table separates what each cited source actually reports from details that are not established there.
| Model or range | Control information in source | Other reported details | Source and qualification |
|---|---|---|---|
| Breville Temp Select (US) | Five temperature settings | Settings are listed for black, green, white and oolong tea, and French press coffee | Breville US product page, current page accessed October 8, 2026; current model status and full specifications should be checked for the buyer’s region. |
| Hamilton Beach variable-temperature kettles | The category page describes variable-temperature kettles; one listed product has six presets | Exact model-specific range, increments, capacity and hold behavior are not stated in the supplied source summary | Hamilton Beach Electric Kettles, current category page accessed October 8, 2026; details vary by product. |
| Cuisinart CPK-17 | Six pre-programmed settings | Capacity, hold duration and current availability are not established here | Good Housekeeping’s 2025 guide, updated July 25, 2025; the recommendation and test claims belong to that publisher. |
| KitchenAid 5KEK1722 | T3 reports a range from 50°C to boiling | T3 lists 1.7-litre capacity, keep-warm function and boil-dry protection | T3’s 2026 guide; secondary editorial evidence, so confirm regional specifications and hold conditions with KitchenAid before purchase. |
| Chefman models (varies) | Manufacturer guide describes five presets on some models, up to seven on advanced digital models, and variable settings on some products | Hold-warm availability depends on model; exact range and capacity are not established for a single model here | Chefman temperature-control guide, accessed October 8, 2026; category and manufacturer descriptions, not independent performance results. |
The figures above should not be read as a ranking: the available information does not establish comparable measurements for temperature accuracy, heating speed, noise, current price or value. The table also does not establish a single current winner. Availability and specifications can differ across regional versions.

How to choose for your brewing and household routine
Match the spout to the way you pour
A standard jug spout suits general kitchen use. A gooseneck spout is designed for more controlled pouring and is often chosen for pour-over coffee. Epicurious treats gooseneck kettles as a distinct category and reports selecting separate winners for all-purpose, gooseneck and budget use in its 2025 guide (Epicurious electric kettle guide). That is the publisher’s selection, not a performance ranking established here.
Check capacity and minimum fill
Capacity affects how many cups you can heat in one batch, but the maximum volume alone does not tell you whether the kettle can safely heat one cup. Check the manual for both maximum and minimum fill levels. T3 lists the KitchenAid 5KEK1722 at 1.7 litres, but that figure is secondary-source reporting and should be checked against the relevant regional manufacturer page before relying on it.

Understand keep-warm behavior
A keep-warm function can save a reheating cycle when people are making drinks at different times. Before choosing a kettle for this feature, confirm how long it holds temperature, whether it maintains the selected target, and whether lifting or replacing the kettle cancels the function. The available descriptions do not establish a verified hold duration for the models listed.
Include safety and day-to-day usability
Compare automatic shutoff, boil-dry protection, a readable temperature display, a lid that is easy to fill, and access for cleaning. T3 lists boil-dry protection on the KitchenAid example; confirm any safety feature on the exact regional model and in its manual rather than assuming it applies across a product family.

How much weight should you give review testing?
Independent guides can add useful context, but their findings belong to their publishers. Epicurious says it checked tested models at every preset using a Thermapen. Good Housekeeping says its electric tea kettle testing collected more than 1,000 data points and identifies the Cuisinart CPK-17 as a six-setting model. Those descriptions do not show that every kettle in the market was tested under the same conditions, and they are not measurements made for this article.
For an actual purchase, use a review’s test method to understand what it assessed, then verify the current model number and specifications with the manufacturer. Prices, warranty terms and regional availability are not established by the sources summarized here, so check the seller and manufacturer at the time you buy.
