The best mini dishwasher is the one that fits your kitchen and handles the dishes you actually need to wash. “Mini dishwasher” can mean a small tank-fed countertop unit, a larger faucet-connected countertop model, a compact built-in machine or a slimline dishwasher. Check the available footprint and cabinet clearance, place-setting capacity, water connection and installation requirements before choosing; the label alone does not tell you what will fit.
What counts as a mini dishwasher?
There is no single technical size behind “mini dishwasher.” The main distinction is between portable countertop machines and narrower or shorter built-in appliances. Bosch categorizes countertop dishwashers at six place settings, compact models at six to eight, and slimline models at up to ten. Its listed category dimensions are 45 × 55.1 × 50 cm for countertop, 45.4–60 × 59.5 × 50 cm for compact, and 81.5 × 44.8 × 57.3 cm for slimline models. These are category-level figures, not a substitute for checking the exact model’s installation documentation. Bosch’s small-dishwasher overview explains the categories.
Countertop models
These sit on a counter and can suit a renter or a kitchen without space for a full-size installation. Some have a built-in water tank, while others connect to a faucet. A countertop unit still needs room for its depth, door movement, hose routing and overhead clearance.
Compact built-in and slimline models
These are installed in cabinetry rather than placed on the counter. They may offer more capacity, but the relevant fit is the cabinet opening and the model’s installation requirements—not simply whether the machine is described as small. Confirm dimensions, plumbing and electrical requirements in the manual before planning a renovation or purchase.

Compare the available countertop examples
The specifications below come from manufacturer product pages and announcements, not comparative cleaning or reliability tests. Measurements and capacity can help narrow the fit, but they do not establish which machine cleans or dries better.

How to choose the right size and setup
1. Measure the whole installation space
Measure the counter footprint and the vertical clearance beneath cabinets. Include room for the door to open, loading and unloading, and any hoses or faucet adapters. A unit that fits the counter dimensions on paper can still be impractical if it blocks a sink, occupies the only prep area or cannot be connected as intended.
2. Match capacity to your actual dishes
Place settings are a useful comparison, but they do not guarantee that a particular plate, pan or mug will fit. Check the loading diagrams or manual for the exact model if you regularly wash large plates or cookware. The difference between the two Midea examples is substantial: the MDC17P0ABB lists two place settings, while the larger MDC22P1AWW lists six.

3. Decide whether tank filling or a faucet connection suits you
A tank-fed machine can avoid a direct faucet hookup, but you must fill it for each wash and still manage drainage. A faucet-connected machine needs a compatible tap and a suitable drain arrangement. Check the adapter and hose details, whether your faucet can accept the connection, and whether you are comfortable installing and removing it. The Midea MDC17P0ABB lists both a 5 L tank and faucet connection; the MDC22P1AWW is listed as faucet-connected.
4. Compare cycles, drying and sound on the exact model
Cycle count does not by itself show how well a machine cleans, and drying features can differ by model. Review the manual for cycle names, duration, drying method and care instructions. Compare manufacturer-listed noise figures only as specifications: the Midea US pages list 62 dBA for the MDC17P0ABB and 52 dBA for the MDC22P1AWW, while GE lists 52 dBA for its Profile Smart Compact model.

5. Verify the exact model and current price
Confirm the full model suffix and regional product page before relying on a specification. Midea’s US MDC17P0ABB listing specifies two place settings; do not assume a similarly named product or a listing for another market has identical details. Prices and availability can change. GE’s $599 figure is a launch MSRP announced in November 2025, not a current offer.

GE’s announcement says its compact dishwasher uses two gallons of water per wash and describes a Baby Care cycle with NSF certification. Those are manufacturer statements in its announcement, not independent comparisons across machines or household conditions. Check current product documentation for the certification and cycle details relevant to the unit you are considering.

Midea Canada says its internal testing found up to 75% less water use than handwashing for the MDC17P0ABB. This is a model-specific manufacturer claim based on Midea’s testing; it should not be treated as an independently verified result or generalized to every mini dishwasher or household. Water use in practice depends on the wash load and the handwashing comparison.
What the specifications cannot tell you
The manufacturer pages establish listed dimensions, capacities, connections and features. They do not provide a consistent independent comparison of cleaning performance, drying, noise in use, durability or reliability. An objective ranking on those grounds would require comparable testing. Use the listed specifications to determine fit and setup, then check the manual and installation requirements for the exact model before buying.
