The best metal kettle for your kitchen depends on more than its steel body: check what the lid, filter, seals and other water-contact parts are made from, then match capacity, controls and care requirements to how you use it. This guide covers electric kettles only; the cited specifications are model-specific manufacturer information, not independent durability or style rankings.

What should you check before buying a metal kettle?

  • Materials throughout: “Metal” may describe only the body or inner vessel. Check the lid, filter, seals, handle and other parts that may contact water.
  • Capacity and minimum fill: Choose a kettle that suits your usual amount of water, and follow its minimum and maximum fill marks.
  • Controls and safeguards: Decide whether you want selectable temperatures, and confirm the exact model’s automatic shut-off and boil-dry protection.
  • Care and warranty: Read the instructions for cleaning and descaling, and check the warranty terms for the specific regional model.
  • Fit and appearance: Finish and shape are personal preferences; also consider the kettle’s weight and the space it will occupy.

Stainless-steel grade alone does not establish how long a kettle will last. The product details below are manufacturer-published specifications, not comparative test results.

How do the documented electric-kettle options compare?

Model and source Capacity and controls Materials and safeguards Other documented details
Aarke Temperature Control Kettle; Aarke product page 0.5 L minimum and 1.2 L maximum; selectable settings from 40°C to 100°C. SUS304 stainless steel, food-grade silicone and BPA-free food-grade polypropylene; dry-boil protection. Non-drip spout; 1.7 kg. The regional product page lists a five-year warranty. Exterior care: soft damp cloth; avoid abrasive cleaners and steel wool, and do not immerse the appliance.
Fellow Clyde; Fellow product page 1.5 L maximum; temperature settings not stated on the cited page. 304 stainless-steel kettle body; plastic base and lid surface; food-grade silicone overmolded handle with plastic end caps. Automatic shut-off and boil-dry protection. Minimum fill, weight and warranty not stated on the cited page.
Tefal Safe’tea 1.7L KO260810; Tefal support page 300 ml minimum recommendation; maximum level is marked on the kettle. The cited guidance does not state temperature settings. Tefal says the body and heating element use food-grade SUS304; filter and filter holder use food-grade polypropylene. Safeguard details are not stated on the cited support page. Regular descaling may be needed in hard-water areas. The cited guidance does not establish warranty terms.
Xiaomi Double Wall Electric Kettle; Xiaomi FAQ Capacity and controls not stated in the cited FAQ. Xiaomi identifies 304 stainless steel for the outer shell and 316L stainless steel for the interior surface. Other materials and safeguards are not stated in the cited FAQ. The cited FAQ identifies materials, not comparative performance or durability.

These specifications come from different product pages and regions; they should not be read as a like-for-like comparison of identical regional versions. A stated feature is not evidence of superior long-term performance.

Which materials matter in a metal kettle?

Start with the inside, then check parts that touch water. Aarke lists silicone and polypropylene as well as SUS304 steel; Fellow lists a plastic lid surface and silicone handle; Tefal identifies polypropylene in its filter and filter holder. Those examples show why a “stainless-steel kettle” label does not necessarily mean every part is metal or that the whole interior is plastic-free.

#1 Best Overall
Amazon Basics Electric Stainless Steel Kettle for Tea and Coffee, BPA-Free, Fast Boiling, Auto Shut-Off, Boil-Dry Protection, 1.7 Liter, 1500W, Black and Silver
  • RAPID HEATING: Powerful 1500W heating element brings water to a boil quickly, saving you valuable time during busy hours.
  • SAFETY FEATURES: The electric kettle features both automatic shut-off function when water reaches boiling point and boil-dry protection that activates when there is insufficient water, ensuring safe operation and preventing damage to the heating element.
  • FOOD-GRADE MATERIALS: All water-contact materials are 100% BPA-free, ensuring your hot beverages remain free from harmful chemicals
  • PREMIUM TECHNOLOGY: Equipped with a high-quality Strix thermostat control system, known worldwide for its exceptional reliability and precise temperature management.
  • USER FRIENDLY: Carafe features a wide opening for easy filling and cleaning, plus a water level indicator for precise measurements.

Steel grades can differ between layers, too. Xiaomi identifies 304 stainless steel for the outer shell and 316L for the interior of its Double Wall Electric Kettle. That distinction describes the materials; it does not, by itself, prove greater safety or durability.

How much capacity do you need, and what is the minimum fill?

Use your normal serving size as a guide, but check both the minimum and maximum for the exact model. A kettle with more capacity can accommodate larger batches; a lower minimum may suit smaller boils. The cited examples are not universal standards: Aarke lists 0.5–1.2 L, Fellow lists a 1.5 L maximum, and Tefal recommends at least 300 ml for its cited Safe’tea model.

Rank #2
Cosori Stainless Steel Electric Kettle, No Plastic Contact with Water, 1.7L
  • 𝟯𝟬𝟰 𝗙𝗼𝗼𝗱-𝗚𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗲 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗲𝗹: stainless steel interior. Plastic-free—spout, inner lid, and filter all made of 304 stainless steel.
  • 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗪𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗟𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿: Unlike typical plastic water level indicators, ours is completely plastic-free to prevent plastic odors.
  • 𝗘𝗮𝘀𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝗨𝘀𝗲: Internal water level markings for precise filling, and blue LED light turns off when boiling is complete.
  • 𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗟𝗮𝘀𝘁: Durable stainless steel construction with superior heat retention (compared to Cosori 171 Glass Kettle) and Strix auto shut-off for long-term reliability.

Do not boil the kettle dry or fill it above its marked limit. Follow the model’s manual and fill indicators rather than assuming another kettle’s limits apply.

Do you need temperature control or just a boil?

If you want water at different temperatures rather than a single full boil, look for explicit temperature settings. Aarke lists selectable temperatures from 40°C to 100°C on its product page. The cited Fellow and Tefal pages do not state comparable temperature settings, so those pages alone do not establish whether their models offer them.

What safety features and handling precautions should you check?

Confirm automatic shut-off and boil-dry protection in the documentation for the precise model. The cited Aarke page lists dry-boil protection; Fellow lists both dry-boil protection and automatic shut-off. The cited Tefal support page does not specify those safeguards, so do not assume they are present or absent without the applicable manual.

Stainless steel can become hot during use. For its cited ELEMENT stainless-steel kettle, Tefal advises users to handle the kettle by the handle and warns that steam from the spout is very hot: “Always be aware while the appliance is operating, paying special attention to the steam coming out of the spout, which is very hot.” Follow the safety instructions supplied with your own kettle, and use it for water only where the manufacturer specifies that limitation.

How should you care for a metal kettle?

Wipe the exterior as directed

Follow the model’s care instructions. Aarke says to wipe the exterior with a soft damp cloth and warns against abrasive cleaners, steel wool and immersing the appliance. Do not assume that method applies to every finish or kettle.

Descale when mineral deposits build up

Tefal explains that mineral content in hard-water areas can make water cloudy and that mineral deposits may stain stainless steel; regular descaling or cleaning may be necessary. Use the method specified in your kettle’s own manual rather than choosing a cleaning product or procedure based on another model’s instructions.

How should style influence your choice?

Appearance is subjective, so compare finishes and shapes against your kitchen rather than treating one as objectively best. Check the actual product page for the regional model you intend to buy, and weigh visual fit alongside its capacity, control layout, footprint and weight. Among the cited examples, Aarke lists a 1.7 kg weight; equivalent weight information is not stated on the cited Fellow, Tefal or Xiaomi pages.
