That is Whirlpool’s own product-page claim, not an independent lifecycle study. Use the manufacturer’s stated replacement schedule and the exact model compatibility information rather than buying a universal filter based only on appearance. Are washing machine cleaner tablets worth adding to the order?
Washing machine cleaner tablets are a legitimate maintenance consumable to consider with a new washer, but the correct product and cleaning frequency should follow the washer manufacturer’s instructions. LG’s support guidance identifies liquid, powder and tablet tub-cleaning products as options.

LG’s support instructions say, If you are using a cleaning tablet, place the tablet directly into the washer tub do not add the tablet cleaner into the dispenser drawer.
