A free scan shows the junk files, broken settings and background clutter dragging Windows down - then fixes them in one click.Free scan · Windows 10 & 11A dishwasher’s place-setting count is a useful starting point, not a guarantee that your dinner plates, pots, and utensils will all fit comfortably. For a large-capacity dishwasher, compare the rack layout and adjustable parts alongside the published capacity, then confirm the appliance fits your cabinetry and suits your priorities for noise, drying, cycles, and resource use.
What does “large capacity” mean?
There is no single place-setting threshold in the cited guidance that defines a “large-capacity” dishwasher. ENERGY STAR says standard-capacity models hold more than eight place settings and six serving pieces; its current criteria classify standard equipment at eight place settings plus six serving pieces or more. That distinguishes standard from compact capacity, but it does not establish a separate large-capacity category.
Several manufacturer specifications provide useful points of comparison: some list 15 or 16 place settings. Treat those figures as standardized capacity claims, not promises about how many of your household’s dishes—or oversized cookware—will fit in one load.

| Model | Stated capacity and features | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Fisher & Paykel Series 7 DW24UT2I3 | 16 place settings; third rack; adjustable middle rack; foldable or pitch-adjustable tines. Manufacturer-listed width is 23.5 inches and depth is 22.625 inches. The manufacturer identifies it as ENERGY STAR Most Efficient. | Check the installation document for the complete dimensions and cutout requirements. Confirm panel requirements, local service, and current availability. |
| Bertazzoni DW24T3IPT | Up to 16 place settings; three racks; 39 dB; eight wash cycles; ENERGY STAR rated. The manufacturer page displayed $1,559 when checked October 8, 2026; price can change. | The handle kit and panel are sold separately. Confirm fit and the total cost of the configuration you want. The manufacturer’s sanitation statement is a product claim, not an independent test result. |
| Whirlpool WDTS8024SZ | 15 place settings; four arms; six wash levels; 47 dBA, according to Whirlpool. | These are manufacturer specifications, not comparative evidence of cleaning performance. |
| Whirlpool WDTS7024RZ | 15 place settings; three arms; five wash levels; 41 dBA, according to Whirlpool. | Check the exact model version sold in your market; compare features as well as the stated sound level. |
| Whirlpool WDTA50SAKT | Whirlpool calls it a “24" Large Capacity Dishwasher”; the listing gives 13 place settings and 47 dBA. | It illustrates why marketing labels and place-setting counts should be considered together. |
| Bosch SHE863WF6N | A July 2018 specification sheet lists 16 place settings, a third rack, adjustable rack positions, 44 dBA, 269 kWh/year, and ENERGY STAR qualification. | This is historical information, not proof of current availability or current ENERGY STAR status. Do not treat it as a current recommendation without checking an up-to-date listing. |
Will the racks fit the dishes you actually use?
Rack geometry can matter more in day-to-day loading than a one-place-setting difference. Before choosing, think about the items that regularly take up space: wide dinner plates, tall glasses, large pots, baking sheets, or utensils. If possible, compare the rack dimensions and loading diagrams in the manufacturer’s documentation with your own dishes.
- Adjustable racks: A movable middle rack can make room for taller items above or below, depending on the design.
- Adjustable or foldable tines: These can change how a rack accommodates bowls, plates, and bulky cookware.
- Third rack: It can provide dedicated space for utensils, but its usefulness depends on its shape and what it displaces in the racks below. A third rack alone does not establish better cleaning.
Measure the opening before comparing features
Check the dishwasher’s installation document for the required cutout width, height, and depth, and measure the available cabinetry. A product’s listed width and depth do not by themselves confirm that it will fit: installation clearances, connections, and the opening’s height also matter. The Fisher & Paykel DW24UT2I3, for example, is listed at 23.5 inches wide and 22.625 inches deep, but those two figures are not a substitute for its full installation specifications.
If you want a built-in model with a cabinet-matching front, confirm whether the panel and handle are included or sold separately. Bertazzoni lists the handle kit and panel separately for the DW24T3IPT, so include those parts when comparing the cost of a finished installation.

Compare noise, cycles, drying, and operating use
Noise
Whirlpool lists the WDTS8024SZ at 47 dBA and the WDTS7024RZ at 41 dBA. These are manufacturer-stated figures; the smaller number alone does not establish which model is the better fit overall. Consider how close the kitchen is to living or sleeping areas, and compare the exact model specifications using their stated measurement context.
Cycles and drying
Cycle count can indicate the range of options a manufacturer lists, but it does not show how well a dishwasher cleans. Bertazzoni lists eight wash cycles for the DW24T3IPT. Compare the available cycles and drying details against your routine—for example, whether you need options for mixed loads, intensive washing, or a particular drying preference. The cited model specifications do not provide a consistent, comparable drying measure across all the models above.
Energy and water
ENERGY STAR’s standard-dishwasher criteria, effective July 19, 2023, set maximums of 240 kWh per year and 3.2 gallons per cycle. The criteria use the U.S. Department of Energy method in 10 CFR 430, Subpart B, Appendix C1. These are program thresholds, not a ranking of capacity or cleaning quality. For a purchase comparison, consult the EnergyGuide label for each exact model’s estimated yearly electricity use and cost; those estimates use average-cycle and energy-price assumptions.

The guidance does not state a publication year for these estimates, and they are not a product-specific or household guarantee. Check current certification and the model’s own EnergyGuide information rather than applying those estimates to a particular dishwasher.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.A practical order for choosing
- Measure first: Confirm the opening’s width, height, and depth against the exact model’s installation document.
- Check usable loading space: Compare place settings, rack geometry, adjustability, and the fit of your regular dishes and cookware.
- Review the daily-use features: Compare stated noise, cycles, and drying details without treating a specification as proof of cleaning performance.
- Compare resource information: Read each model’s EnergyGuide label and verify current ENERGY STAR status where relevant.
- Confirm the complete purchase: Check whether a panel or handle is separate, and verify current availability and the precise model configuration.
What specifications can—and cannot—tell you
Manufacturer specifications and official program criteria can help narrow a shortlist by capacity, rack features, dimensions, noise, and energy figures. They do not establish comparative cleaning performance, durability, reliability rankings, or service quality. No independent dishwasher testing or longevity evidence is available for the models discussed here, so choose based on verified fit and features rather than assuming that a larger capacity number or lower sound figure makes a model best for every home.
