For hard water, prioritize a removable, washable limescale filter, easy access to the interior, and clear care instructions. The Aarke Electric Kettle has those documented design features; Ideal Home named the De’Longhi Eclettia SpecialTea its hard-water pick in a guide updated 15 June 2026. Neither recommendation is evidence of a controlled head-to-head performance test.
What matters when choosing a kettle for hard water
Scale forms as minerals in water build up inside a kettle. How quickly it happens depends on the water, so a feature described as an anti-limescale filter should not be taken to mean the appliance will never need cleaning.
- Removable filter: A spout filter that can be removed and washed gives you access to clean the filter itself.
- Cleaning access: A wide opening or removable lid makes it easier to reach the interior when scale needs removing.
- Clear care instructions: Check the manufacturer’s recommended descaling interval and which methods are suitable for that kettle’s materials.
- Everyday fit: Compare capacity, minimum fill and temperature settings as well as maintenance features. Live prices and availability were not established for the models below.
Kettles to consider
The available product information supports comparing their features and care guidance, but does not establish a controlled hard-water performance ranking.
| Model | Scale-related design and care | Capacity and temperature control | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Aarke Electric Kettle | Aarke describes a removable stainless-steel limescale filter, a wide opening and a hidden heating element. Its general recommendation is to descale every two months. | 0.5 L minimum; 1.2 L maximum; five settings: 40°, 75°, 85°, 95° and 100°C. | Documented maintenance-access features and manufacturer specifications; not independent hard-water test results. |
| De’Longhi Eclettia SpecialTea | Listed by Ideal Home as its best kettle for hard water, citing an integrated anti-limescale filter. | 1.7 L capacity and nine variable temperatures, as reported by Ideal Home. | An editorial recommendation in Ideal Home’s guide updated 15 June 2026, not a verified universal winner. |
| All-Clad BW883D51 | All-Clad lists a removable filter and advises cleaning it regularly. Its guidance is to descale at least monthly, or more often with hard water. | 1.5 L capacity; nine temperature settings. | Manufacturer-listed specifications and maintenance advice. |
| Haier I-Master range | Haier’s buying guide describes a removable, washable limescale filter and recommends considering cleaning access. | Options include seven preset temperature levels or full temperature control; capacity is not stated in the cited guide. | The guide also provides Haier’s beverage temperature suggestions; check the particular model’s features. |
Which option fits your routine?
Choose for easy cleaning access
The Aarke’s wide opening and removable filter are useful features if you want to reach the interior and clean the filter. Its listed 0.5 L minimum and 1.2 L maximum may suit smaller batches, but compare those figures with how much water you usually boil.

Choose by a published hard-water recommendation
Ideal Home’s 15 June 2026 update names the De’Longhi Eclettia SpecialTea its hard-water pick because of its integrated anti-limescale filter. Treat that as Ideal Home’s editorial choice; the cited information does not establish that it outperforms the other models in a controlled comparison.
Choose by temperature control
If precise temperature settings matter for tea or coffee, compare the models’ controls and capacity together. Haier’s guide suggests 70–80°C for green, white and matcha; 80–90°C for oolong; 90–96°C for filter coffee; and 95–100°C for black tea and infusions. These are Haier’s recommendations, not universal requirements.

How often to descale and how to do it safely
Descaling intervals depend on water hardness. De’Longhi recommends monthly descaling in particularly hard-water areas and every three months in very soft-water areas. Aarke’s general recommendation for its kettle is every two months. Follow the instructions for the exact kettle you own rather than treating one manufacturer’s interval as universal.
- Check the kettle’s manual. Confirm the recommended descaler or cleaning method for your model and its materials.
- Use the specified method and interval. De’Longhi cautions that proprietary descalers could damage a kettle’s surface finish, so do not assume every descaler is suitable.
- Clean the filter as directed. If the filter is removable, follow the manufacturer’s instructions for removing, washing and refitting it.
De’Longhi gives a white-vinegar alternative of one part vinegar to two parts water. Its instructions say to empty the kettle, boil fresh water, empty it and repeat once. Apply that method only if the instructions for your specific kettle allow it; do not assume vinegar is suitable for every model.

Can filtering water help?
Filtering water before it goes into the kettle is an optional way to address scale upstream. Aarke recommends its Purifier and Pure filtergranules for high-limescale water. Aarke claims these can reduce limescale by 90–100%, depending on water quality; that is a manufacturer claim, not an independently verified result. Check compatibility and current availability before choosing a filtration product.
