If you want a full-size ironing board with a place to park your iron, check the rest’s fit alongside the board’s size, height, stability and storage footprint. The Brabantia Ironing Board B is one currently listed example: its working surface is 124 × 38 cm, and its UK listing specifies a flexible rest for irons up to 13.5 cm wide.
What to look for in an ironing board with an iron rest
An integrated iron rest gives you a designated place to set the iron while repositioning a garment. It is not enough to see “iron rest” in a product description: confirm that the rest suits your particular iron, then assess whether the board itself fits your work and storage needs.
- Iron-rest fit: Check the listed dimensions and any stated compatibility limits against your iron. If you use a steam-generator system, verify that the rest—and any separate base shelf—can accommodate the appliance. A stated iron-width limit alone does not establish steam-generator compatibility.
- Working surface: Compare the board’s length and width with the garments and linens you press. A smaller surface may be easier to store; a larger one can give you more room for broad or bulky items.
- Height and stability: Look for adjustable working height and a stable frame. The board should feel steady under normal pressing, and its adjustment range should suit the people who will use it.
- Setup and storage: Check how the board opens and folds, and look up both its working dimensions and folded footprint. A full-size board still needs a practical place to store it.
- Cover and padding: Review the cover and padding details on the current listing, including replacement-cover compatibility if that matters to you.
These are the kinds of factors considered in board assessments described by Ideal Home and Which?. They are useful comparison criteria, not independent test results for every model discussed here. A listed example: Brabantia Ironing Board B
Brabantia’s US product listing and UK product listing both give the working surface as 124 × 38 cm. The US page describes it as a board for a steam iron. The UK page calls the rest flexible for left- or right-handed use and specifies irons up to 13.5 cm wide.

That width specification is not proof that the rest will fit every iron, and it does not establish compatibility with a steam-generator base. Measure or check your appliance’s relevant dimensions and confirm the fit with Brabantia or the current local listing before buying.
Both regional listings show a 10-year warranty. Warranty terms, stock, finishes and prices can differ by market or change over time, so check the product page for your location for current details. The product specifications make this a relevant example of an ironing board with an iron rest, but they do not establish that it is objectively the best choice for every household.

How to choose the right board for your household
- Start with the iron. Note its width and the space required by its base. Compare those measurements with the rest’s stated limits; for a steam generator, check the rest and any base shelf separately.
- Match the surface to your laundry. Decide whether the listed working area is adequate for the garments and household linens you commonly press.
- Check working height and frame stability. Confirm the adjustment options on the listing and, where possible, inspect the board in person or consult detailed product reviews for observations about sturdiness.
- Measure the storage space. Compare the board’s folded dimensions with the cupboard, closet or utility area where you plan to keep it. Also consider how easy it is to open and fold.
- Verify the details for your region. Confirm the exact model, rest design, warranty, availability and price on the current local product page before purchase.
When a different board may be a better fit
Choose by fit rather than by the presence of a rest alone. If storage is tight, prioritize a manageable folded footprint; if you regularly press large items, give more weight to working-surface dimensions. If your iron is unusually wide or uses a separate steam-generator base, make compatibility the deciding check rather than assuming a standard rest will work.
