For a bedroom or bathroom, choose a bed-and-bath privacy lock—not a passage knob or lever. The Schlage Davlin F40 lever and Kwikset Pismo 730PSK SQT knob are two manufacturer-documented examples with different forms and fit details. Neither is established as an overall winner, and these interior privacy locks should not be treated as exterior forced-entry protection.
What to look for in an interior privacy lock
A bed-and-bath privacy function is intended for a room where occupants want privacy. The lock operates from inside; its release method matters if someone needs to open the door from outside. A passage function does not provide the same locking function.
- Privacy operation: Check whether the lock uses a push button or turn piece, and how it unlocks from inside.
- Emergency access: Identify the outside release method and make sure the household can access the required tool or key.
- Door fit: Compare the stated door thickness and backset with your door, and confirm the latch faceplate fits the edge preparation.
- Form and finish: Choose a knob or lever based on handling and appearance, then verify the finish and specifications for the exact variant.
- Certification: Read the exact model’s listed grade and standard; manufacturer-listed grades are not, by themselves, a direct comparative test.

Which one fits your room and door?
Choose the Schlage Davlin F40 if you prefer a lever
The Davlin is the lever example, and Schlage explicitly describes its outside emergency release: the included pin key unlocks the push-button privacy lock. Its listed door-thickness range and two backset options give you concrete measurements to compare with your door before ordering.

Choose the Kwikset Pismo 730PSK SQT if you prefer a knob or need latch options
The Pismo is the square-knob example. Its adjustable backset and three listed latch-faceplate styles may help match different door-edge preparations. Confirm that the exact latch option and door dimensions suit your installation.
Check compatibility before buying
- Measure the door thickness. Compare it with the manufacturer’s range for the exact model; the Davlin’s published range is 1-3/8 to 1-3/4 inches.
- Measure the backset. This is the distance from the door edge to the center of the bore for the lock. Match it to the model’s specified or adjustable backset.
- Inspect the latch opening. Check whether the door edge requires a round-corner, square-corner, or drive-in faceplate, and confirm the product includes the matching option.
- Confirm the handing and installation details. Follow the current instructions for the exact model and variant rather than assuming all versions are configured identically.
- Plan emergency access. For a lock with a keyed or pin-operated outside release, keep the release tool accessible to the people who may need it.
What these locks do—and do not—establish
These examples are interior privacy hardware for bedroom or bathroom doors. Their product descriptions and specifications do not establish resistance to forced entry, suitability for exterior doors, or an independently tested ranking for security or durability. The listed certifications are model-specific manufacturer claims, not a substitute for matching the lock to the intended use and door.
