For a compact route, maneuverability may matter more than capacity; for a long route, a larger bucket can mean fewer refills. Choose a side-press or down-press wringer based on how your crew works and how much water you want to extract, and consider a dual-bucket system if separating clean solution from dirty rinse water is a priority.
How to choose a commercial mop bucket
Start with the work the equipment must do, rather than a claimed “best” label. Compare route length, tight turns, refill access, floor type, mop-head compatibility and the way your team empties and wrings buckets. The two systems discussed here serve different needs; manufacturer information does not establish a controlled head-to-head winner.
- Route size: a smaller bucket is easier to maneuver in confined spaces, while more capacity can reduce refill trips on a long route.
- Wringer motion: side-press and down-press mechanisms operate differently and may suit different working habits or water-extraction priorities.
- Solution handling: a single-bucket system is straightforward; a dual-bucket system keeps clean solution apart from dirty rinse water.
- Existing equipment: confirm that the bucket and wringer work with the mop heads or pads your crew already uses.
What size commercial mop bucket do you need?
Match capacity to the amount of floor covered between refills and the spaces the bucket must pass through. Rubbermaid Commercial offers WaveBrake bucket-and-wringer options in 26, 35 and 44 quarts. The company positions the 44-quart option for high-volume, long commercial or industrial routes; smaller capacities may be more manageable where space and maneuverability matter. These capacities describe the manufacturer’s product options, not a universal route-size rule. Rubbermaid Commercial’s WaveBrake system information gives product details.
Before ordering, verify the specific configuration rather than relying on a family name: capacity, wringer style, drain or pour features, color, and whether a divider or dirty-water bucket is included. Kit contents can vary.

#1 Best Overall
- 35-quart mop bucket and side-press wringer combo for cleaning floors or mopping up messes; designed for commercial use
- High-efficiency side-press wringer works with fan mop holders; down-press wringer works with fan and jaw mop holders; wringers quickly send water back down into bucket

- Loop carry handle; integrated pour handle; 4 smooth-rolling casters for quiet, convenient mobility; bright yellow color for easy visibility and added safety
- Mop-handle clip-on holder keeps mop upright in bucket; mop not included
Side-press or down-press: which wringer should you choose?
A side-press wringer is operated by pressing the handle to the side; a down-press wringer applies pressure downward. Rubbermaid recommends side-press for familiar, routine work and down-press when a drier mop and faster drying are priorities. That is the manufacturer’s guidance, not an independently established drying-time comparison. Rubbermaid’s WaveBrake FAQ and system material describes the options.
More water extraction can leave less moisture on the floor, but it does not determine drying time by itself. Floor material, cleaning solution, pad condition, airflow and technique also affect the result. Consider your facility’s flooring and cleaning procedure, and train staff to use the selected wringer consistently.

When does a dual-bucket mop system make sense?
A dual-bucket design separates clean cleaning solution from dirty rinse water. Unger’s OmniClean system also includes a scrub board intended to remove debris from mop pads, making it an option to consider for teams using a microfiber pad workflow. Check the system size, included mop and pads, replacement-part availability and the training needed to use the process consistently. Unger OmniClean product information describes the system and its components.
Unger says OmniClean delivers “13x cleaner” solution and 93% soil removal. Those are company claims; the product-page information cited here does not establish an independent test report. A dual-bucket setup can support separation of clean and dirty solution, but it does not by itself guarantee a particular hygiene outcome.

How to interpret product performance claims
Rubbermaid says WaveBrake baffles reduce splashing by up to 80% compared with a specified competitive US 35-quart single-compartment mop bucket and wringer, excluding the divider bucket and accessories. This is a manufacturer comparison, not an independent test result; the comparison applies to that stated baseline and configuration. Consult the product specifications for the exact model before treating it as relevant to your purchase. Rubbermaid Commercial’s system information presents the claim.
Unger also publishes a customer testimonial from Pete, Assistant Director Housing Custodial at the University of North Texas: “OmniClean has exceeded my expectations of flatmop systems. It addresses several of my concerns, one of which is the floor being too wet, and the unique wringer alleviates that issue.” This is a testimonial, not an independent performance study. Unger’s OmniClean page provides the attribution and quote.

Purchase checks for facility managers
- Confirm bucket capacity against route length, refill access and turning space.
- Specify side-press or down-press wringer and verify it suits staff workflow and floor-moisture needs.
- For a dual-bucket model, confirm the clean/dirty separation components and intended mop-pad format.
- Check included mop heads, pads, accessories, drain or pour features, and replacement parts on the exact listing or quote.
- Use color coding only as part of a facility’s zone procedures; color alone does not prevent cross-contamination.
- Follow the facility’s cleaning procedure and product instructions for the floor type and cleaning solution.
