Which IKEA down comforter is best for you?
IKEA calls these products duvet inserts; “down comforter” is a familiar US term for a similar bedding layer. The best fit depends on how warm you want your bed, whether you prefer a down- or feather-dominant fill, and whether the size and care requirements work for you.
- Choose FJÄLLHAVRE if warmth is the priority: IKEA labels it warm and lists 7–8 TOG.
- Compare FJÄLLBRÄCKA if you want a light-warm option with a high down proportion: it is 75% duck down and 25% duck feathers, with a listed 7.5 TOG.
- Consider FJÄLLARNIKA if you prefer a feather-dominant fill and a lower listed TOG: it is 90% duck feathers and 10% duck down, with a 4 TOG rating.
“Light warm” does not mean these two inserts have identical specifications: IKEA lists different TOG values. These ratings are reported from IKEA’s US product pages and should not be treated as directly comparable to ratings on listings from other markets.

How to choose by warmth, fill and construction
Start with the warmth label and TOG
FJÄLLHAVRE is the warm-labeled option in this comparison. IKEA’s pages label FJÄLLBRÄCKA and FJÄLLARNIKA light warm, but their listed ratings—7.5 and 4 TOG, respectively—are not the same. Use the product’s own label and rating as a guide rather than assuming the shared warmth category means an identical feel.
Decide whether you prefer more down or more feathers
FJÄLLHAVRE has the highest down share among these examples, at 90%. FJÄLLBRÄCKA contains 75% down, while FJÄLLARNIKA is feather-dominant, with 90% duck feathers. These are composition differences, not independent measures of comfort or thermal performance.

Consider the construction description
IKEA says the light-warm models’ box stitching lets air and heat pass through. For FJÄLLHAVRE, IKEA describes stitched inner walls as a way to retain heat. Those descriptions help explain the intended construction, but they are retailer claims rather than results from comparative testing.
Check the size against your duvet cover
The listed Full/Queen examples for all three models measure 86 × 86 inches. Do not assume other sizes—or a cover from another brand—will match. Before ordering, compare the insert’s dimensions on its current product page with the duvet cover’s stated dimensions; a mismatch can affect how the insert sits inside the cover.

How to care for an IKEA down or feather insert
The cited IKEA listings give similar care directions, but the sewn-in care label for your exact model takes precedence if it differs. The listings say to:
- Machine wash warm, up to 140°F (60°C).
- Use one-third of the usual amount of detergent.
- Tumble dry on medium and continue until the filling is completely dry.
- Do not bleach, iron or dry clean.
IKEA notes on the FJÄLLBRÄCKA and FJÄLLARNIKA pages that natural down and feathers can have a slight smell that fades; airing or washing and thorough drying can help.
