Available evidence does not establish a single best model or provide independent product testing, so compare the system against your installation and maintenance needs rather than relying on an overall winner.
What to compare before choosing a dispenser
| Decision | What to check |
|---|---|
| Refill method | Determine whether the dispenser is manually refilled, uses a replacement container or cartridge, or requires a supplier-specific refill system. Confirm compatible containers and the replenishment process with the supplier. Hotel supplier guidance describes manual refilling as well as controlled or automated offerings, but does not establish that these systems are interchangeable. ADA Cosmetics’ hotel refill guide and its Refillution system information describe supplier-specific approaches. |
| Mounting and security | Check the mount or bracket, whether the unit locks, and whether the proposed fixing method suits the wall surface and maintenance plan. Hotel supplier materials establish that mounted and lockable systems exist; they do not compare adhesives with screws or certify a particular installation method. |
| Product compatibility | Verify that the soap, shampoo or shower gel and refill container are designed for the dispenser. Do not assume that products or containers from different suppliers will fit or work together. |
| Accessible placement | Plan the position in relation to grab bars and other bathing features. Under the ADA Standards guidance summarized by the U.S. Access Board, soap dispensers must be outside the required clear space above shower grab bars. Consult the applicable local requirements for the specific project. |
| Evidence for hygiene claims | Ask whether a claim comes from independent comparative research or from a supplier’s own material. A vendor-hosted study summary alone does not establish that one dispenser design is universally safer. |
How hotel refill systems are maintained
One supplier’s hotel guide describes a workflow that includes checking the fill level, unlocking and removing the dispenser from its mount, opening and refilling it, resealing and reinstalling it, and recording a batch code. The guide also describes using a pump-equipped bulk container to transfer product. Treat these as examples for that system, not universal hotel procedures: the actual steps depend on the dispenser and the supplier’s instructions.
Before selecting a system, make sure the staff responsible for replenishment can obtain the correct product and containers, understand the refill procedure, and secure the unit after servicing. For a controlled or automated system, confirm what equipment and supplies it requires; the available supplier material does not establish compatibility across brands.
Accessibility and guest orientation
The Access Board’s bathing-room guidance says soap dispensers are among the objects that must be outside the 12-inch clear space above grab bars under its discussion of the ADA Standards. This is a clearance requirement in the cited guidance, not a universal mounting-height recommendation. Review the project’s applicable standards and local rules when laying out the shower.

Placement is only one part of an accessible guest experience. The U.S. Department of Justice lodging guide advises staff to explain which complimentary toiletries are provided and how guests can distinguish them when orienting a guest to the bathroom. Clear identification and a brief explanation can help guests who are blind or have low vision; the guidance does not prescribe a particular dispenser label design.
How to assess hygiene and sustainability claims
ADA Cosmetics hosts a summary of a study it commissioned from Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences. The page reports findings about hotel dispensers, but the accessible summary does not establish a publication year for the underlying study or support a universal ranking of dispenser designs. Treat the findings as vendor-hosted study claims and consult the underlying study before using them to make a broad comparison.

In a 2025 company announcement, ADA Cosmetics said its Refillution system can reduce plastic consumption by up to 95% and liquid waste by up to 30%, and that hotels can save an average of 4.5 kilograms of plastic waste per room per year. These are supplier claims, not independently verified results; they should not be treated as guaranteed savings for every property or dispenser system. The figures concern the supplier’s system, not wall-mounted dispensers as a whole.
No independent named statistic comparing hotel shower dispenser types or independent model test is established here. If hygiene or waste reduction is central to a purchasing decision, request the evidence behind the specific supplier claim and check that its products, usage assumptions and operating process match the intended installation.

A practical selection checklist
- Choose the product and refill format. Identify the soap, shampoo or shower gel to be dispensed, then confirm which dispenser and refill containers are compatible.
- Review servicing. Get the supplier’s instructions for unlocking, removing, refilling, resealing and reinstalling the unit, and establish how staff will replenish and secure it.
- Plan the mounting location. Check the wall and fixing approach with the installer, and keep the dispenser outside the required clear space above shower grab bars where the cited ADA Standards guidance applies.
- Check guest use. Make the toiletries distinguishable and include them in bathroom orientation for guests who may need an explanation.
- Scrutinize performance claims. Separate supplier claims from independent evidence, and do not assume a result applies to another brand or installation.
What the available evidence can—and cannot—identify
The evidence supports a product category and a set of practical buying criteria, not a model winner. It does not establish current consumer model rankings, prices, independent performance testing, or cross-brand refill compatibility. For a hotel or home project, compare actual systems against the intended product, installation surface, accessibility layout and maintenance process, then verify current availability and compatibility with the supplier.
