The best herringbone picture frame for your display is the one that fits your print and suits the way you want to show it: check the stated photo size, surface and finish, and whether it has an easel, wall hooks, or both. Herringbone describes a pattern, not a material—options here range from patterned MDF and silver-plated metal to oak and walnut marquetry. The examples below are an attribute-based shortlist, not a hands-on or independently tested ranking.
Compare the herringbone frame options
These maker and retailer listings document different materials, finishes, sizes, and display hardware. A frame’s listed photo size refers to the print it is intended to hold, not the outside dimensions of the frame.

Choose a photo opening that fits your print
Match the frame’s stated photo size to the print you plan to display. For example, a 5 × 7 in print calls for a frame listed for that size; a larger outside frame dimension does not tell you what print opening it accepts. The available options vary by model: the listings span 4 × 6 in through 10 × 8 in, but not every size is offered by every maker.

Pattern alone does not tell you how a frame is made. Kenro’s product description identifies its herringbone design as MDF, offered in natural oak or grey with a white engraved border. Addison Ross uses an embossed design on a silver-plated frame. Anboise’s Luciana is described as dual-tone oak marquetry, while the Alicia uses walnut marquetry. Dunelm describes a soft natural wood-tone border. These are distinct constructions and surface treatments, not interchangeable claims of solid timber.
For a warm, wood-toned display, compare the natural-oak MDF finish, Dunelm’s soft natural tone, and the oak or walnut marquetry options. The silver-plated frame offers a brighter metallic look, while Kenro’s grey finish gives another option. The product descriptions establish these finishes; they do not establish that one material is more durable or better made than another.

Check how the frame can be displayed
Do not assume every picture frame both stands and hangs, or that it can be used in either orientation. Kenro lists an easel back and wall hooks; Dunelm describes its frame as freestanding; Addison Ross specifies a two-way easel for portrait or landscape display. For Anboise’s frames, the cited product pages do not state the display hardware. If you need wall mounting or a particular orientation, verify the exact variant before ordering.
