Choose among a freestanding frame, a tension pole, a caster-mounted stand or a hanger attached to a ceiling or beam; each needs different clearance, support and hardware. The product examples below are manufacturer specifications, not head-to-head test winners.
Choose an installation style that suits your room
Start by deciding whether the display should stand on the floor, brace between floor and ceiling, move on casters, or hang from a building surface. That choice determines what you need to measure and what must support the load.
Freestanding stands
A freestanding stand needs floor space but does not rely on a ceiling hook. Richell’s Japanese-market Botany Hanging Stand combines hanging pots with a base for displaying plants. Its listed dimensions are 59 × 37 × 151 cm and its weight is 7.7 kg. The manufacturer specifies a steel frame and base. Check the footprint and overhead clearance before choosing a tall frame. Tension poles
A tension pole braces between floor and ceiling, which may suit a room where you want to avoid drilling. Richell describes its Botany tension type as installing without drilling and adjusting to a height of up to 280 cm. Those details apply to that product line, not to all tension poles. Caster-mounted stands
Casters make a display easier to move for cleaning or repositioning. Richell describes a movable caster pole in the Botany line. Mobility is useful only if the stand’s footprint, load rating and route across the floor suit your room; the manufacturer page does not establish an independent stability or mobility test. Ceiling- or beam-mounted hangers
Attached hangers save floor space, but the mounting surface and fastener are part of the support system. National Hardware’s product listing describes a kit with a ring, ceiling hook and macrame cord, with a stated 35 lb kit capacity. That figure belongs to the named kit; it does not establish the capacity of a different hook, anchor or ceiling. The company’s category also covers hardware for ceilings, beams and under cabinets. Compare the real capacity, not just the headline rating
Ratings may apply to separate parts of a stand rather than to one combined load. Richell lists these figures for its Botany Hanging Stand:

When assessing a pot, account for the filled pot and plant, not just the empty container. Keep within the rating for the specific hook, bar, pole, base or accessory that carries it. The cited sources do not establish a universal pot size or water-management standard.
Match dimensions and clearances to the location
- Measure the floor area: compare the stand’s footprint with the intended corner or walkway. Richell lists its example stand at 59 × 37 cm at the base.
- Measure overhead clearance: a stand listed at 151 cm tall needs room for the plant and hanger above its frame. For a tension model, compare your ceiling height with that model’s adjustment range.
- Check plant and pot fit: consider the pot’s width, hanger geometry and space between the plant, wall and pole.
- Plan for water: decide how water will be caught or drained, since the cited manufacturer specifications do not set a general rule for saucers or drip protection.
Choose fasteners for the actual mounting surface
IKEA’s US product information for the ANVÄNDBAR indoor hanging plant holder states: “Different ceiling materials require different types of fasteners.” Identify whether you are fastening to the material described in the product instructions, then use hardware rated and intended for that substrate.
