There is no source-backed universal best replacement bearing for every glider rocker. The right choice is the part that matches your chair’s mechanism, dimensions, and mounting points. Identify the hardware first, then shop for a glider rocker bearing replacement kit or arm only if its fit matches the original.
Which glider rocker part do you need?
“Glider bearing” can refer to different components, and their names are not interchangeable. Your chair may use a bearing assembly retained in an arm, a separate pressed bearing, a stem-style rocker bearing, or a complete metal bearing arm. A kit for one style may not fit another.
Turn the chair over only when it can be supported stably. Photograph the underside and identify the moving connection before removing anything. Check the chair’s make and model, then look for parts documentation: Dorel Home’s assembly manual covers named model variants, including the DA8847R / DA8847-DC family, while Newport Gliders publishes bearing replacement instructions. These documents are useful for the models they cover, not proof of compatibility with other chairs.
What should you measure before ordering?
If possible, remove or inspect the old part and record its dimensions and how it attaches. Fixing Furniture advises measuring bearing diameter, thickness, and bolt or hole dimensions before ordering; for a complete arm, also measure the distance between mounting holes.

- Bearing diameter and thickness: Compare the replacement’s outside dimensions with the original.
- Bolt, hole, or shaft dimensions: Check both size and fastening arrangement.
- Arm mounting-hole spacing: Measure center to center between the mounting holes if replacing a complete arm.
- Mechanism type: Confirm whether you need a bearing assembly, pressed bearing, stem bearing, or complete arm.
Catalog dimensions are examples, not universal standards. Sunniland Patio lists glider bearing-arm options with 7.5-inch and 8.5-inch hole-to-hole spacing; use those figures only to compare with your chair’s original arm, not as a general fit recommendation.
How do catalog examples compare?
Apple Outdoor Supply’s 2024 catalog illustrates how much bearing dimensions can vary by type. It lists the following examples, each in boxes of 500—quantities that may not suit a one-chair repair.

| Cataloged part | Example dimensions | Package quantity |
|---|---|---|
| Pressed glider bearing | 1-1/8-inch outside diameter; offered in 5/16-inch, 3/8-inch, and 1/2-inch sizes | 500 per box |
| Stem rocker bearing | 7/8-inch outside diameter; 3/4-inch or 1-inch stem length | 500 per box |
These are supplier examples, not dimensions to assume for an unidentified chair. If a wholesale package is excessive, look for a retail-sized part with matching dimensions and mounting style.
Where can you find a suitable replacement?
Start with the chair manufacturer’s model-specific parts information if available. Otherwise, use the removed part or your measurements to compare listings from specialty furniture-parts retailers and hardware suppliers. Search terms such as “glider rocker bearing replacement kit” can help locate assembly kits; if the damaged part is a complete arm, search for glider bearing arm brackets and compare the hole spacing and other dimensions.

Do not choose by the product name alone. Confirm the mechanism type, outside dimensions, thickness, shaft or bolt size, mounting-hole spacing, and fastening method against the original. Check how many pieces are included, too: wholesale catalog quantities can be far more than a household repair needs.

HomeSteady’s repair guide describes separating the chair from its base, removing retaining hardware, replacing bearing assemblies, and reassembling the chair. That sequence is guidance for the design it describes, not a universal procedure. Follow instructions for your chair model when available; Newport Gliders also provides bearing replacement instructions.

Fixing Furniture recommends replacing bearings together. Treat that as repair guidance rather than evidence that every chair requires a full set. If the mechanism is damaged or complex, or the correct part is unclear, seek help from the manufacturer or a furniture-repair professional rather than adapting a mismatched bearing. A new bearing may not resolve a squeak or wobble if another part is responsible.
