Full tang describes how a knife is built: its blade steel extends into the handle, which is mounted around the tang. It does not, by itself, prove that a knife cuts better. WÜSTHOF Classic, ZWILLING Pro and Made In’s 8-inch chef knife are three models whose manufacturers identify them as full tang. Compare their published construction and specifications, then choose by feel, handle preference and budget—not by the label alone.
What does full tang mean in a chef’s knife?
The tang is the part of the blade that continues into the handle. ZWILLING defines full tang this way: “Full Tang: When the handle is mounted around the tang, as in our Professional “S” series, it is considered a full tang.” In partial tang construction, the blade extends only partway into the handle. ZWILLING’s chef’s knife guide explains the distinction.
Full tang is a construction description, not a performance rating. It does not establish sharpness, edge retention, balance, comfort or cutting speed. Those qualities require evidence beyond a maker’s tang designation.

How to compare full tang chef knives
Weight and feel
Weight is a useful point of comparison when makers publish it, but heavier does not automatically mean better. WÜSTHOF lists 9.45 oz for its Classic series and 6.49 oz for its Gourmet series; the same comparison identifies Gourmet as non-forged and lists it at 56 HRC. These are manufacturer specifications for those series, not independent measurements or proof that one is easier to use. Check WÜSTHOF’s series comparison and the exact model listing.
Steel, hardness and construction
Use steel type and hardness only when they are published for the model or series you are comparing. Made In lists X50CrMoV15 steel for its 8-inch chef knife, while WÜSTHOF publishes the Classic and Gourmet hardness figures above. Do not treat forged and full tang as synonyms: WÜSTHOF separately describes Classic as forged and full tang, while its Gourmet entry is non-forged. ZWILLING and Made In also describe their cited models as forged and full tang.

- High-Carbon Stainless Steel Blade: It is manufactured from high-quality stainless steel that maintains its functionality for a long time. And to boost its sturdiness, the steel contains 0.6-0.75 carbon. This makes it two times as hard as other knives in its class as they contain about 0.3% carbon
- Multi-functional Knife: The gyutou knife is classified and designed to be a multipurpose knife for professional applications. It cuts, dices, slices, chops and also cuts meat off bones. It comes with a HRC ( Rockwell Hardness Scale) of 56-58 which makes it among the tough knives in its class
- Ergonomic Pakka Handle: To make it more professional and minimize any fatigue, finger numbness or aches after holding it continuously for an extended time the knife's handle is made from Pakka. Frame made of FSC-Certified wood. This is material that originates from Africa and its known for its comfort, strength and stability
- Ultra-sharp Edge: Sharpness is key to achieving the best cuts and this is evident in the knife's blade which is quite sharp and will remain this way even after tough tasks such as cutting tough meat or removing flesh from bones. The sharpness is further boosted by use of the latest Japanese engineering
- Corrosion Resistance Stainless Blade: In addition to carbon, 16-18% chrome is also included in the blade's metal composition. This gives its a glossy finish which will not tarnish even after using it for a long time, they are perfect Fathers day gifts, Halloween gifts, Christmas gifts, wedding and birthday gifts. We offer our customers a no-hassle refund within 3 months and a lifetime warranty on these knives
Handle design and personal fit
Handle materials and shapes are distinct from tang construction. The cited Made In model offers black ABS or olive wood; ZWILLING describes a triple-riveted handle and curved bolster. These details help narrow what you may want to handle or compare in person, but they do not establish that a design will suit every hand.
Skill, appearance and budget
When deciding how to choose your new favorite kitchen knives, consider your comfort with knife use, aesthetic preference and budget. Opinel gives those as selection considerations in its Kitchen Knife Guide. That is manufacturer guidance, not a universal consumer study; the cited sources do not establish current prices or a best-value winner among these three models.

What the published evidence can—and cannot—tell you
The manufacturers provide useful confirmation of construction and selected specifications. They do not supply an independent, comparable test here for cutting performance, sharpness, edge retention, comfort across different users or sharpening frequency. There is therefore no evidence-based basis in these specifications alone to call one model the best-performing full tang chef’s knife. Verify the current product page for the exact model and region before purchase, since published details can change.
