How to choose the right number for your entrance
Prioritize legibility

What each material offers
Blue-and-white ceramic
This is the most direct choice for a decorative, traditional look. Leroy Merlin describes glazed ceramic numbers intended for walls, gates, or mailboxes. Those details are the retailer’s product description, not independent findings about durability or suitability for every location.
Enamel on steel
Enamel can give a house number a classic plaque appearance. Signaux Girod says its enamel is vitrified onto steel and describes wall mounting with a fixing kit. The company calls its production “Une fabrication française” (“French manufacturing”) and says the number is made in the Jura; those are the vendor’s statements, not independently verified claims.

Hand-painted ceramic
An artisan-made plaque can offer a more individual result than a standard numeral. Atelier Laurence describes hand-painted ceramic number plaques made at its workshop in Le Vésinet, Yvelines. Ask the maker about personalization, proof approval, shipping, price, and timing before placing an order.
Stainless steel
Assembled stainless-steel numerals suit a cleaner, more modern façade. Lacier lists several number heights; compare the available dimensions with the viewing distance, and check how the numerals mount and read against your wall color.
