A conveyor carries split wood away from the processing point and can reduce batch-by-batch manual handling, but there is no documented universal throughput winner: the available product information is manufacturer specifications, not independent head-to-head productivity testing. The National Firewood Workshop’s business guide describes belt and chain designs and common drive arrangements.
What to compare before choosing a firewood conveyor
Start with the route the wood will take: from the splitter or processor to a pile, truck, trailer, tumbler, or storage area. A conveyor that reaches the destination but cannot discharge at a useful height—or cannot fit safely in the yard—may not suit the job.
- Length and discharge height: Check reach and unloading elevation against the actual receiving point. A longer unit can reach farther or higher, but needs room to set up and operate.
- Conveyor surface: Rubber belt, cleated belt, chain, and chain with paddles are documented designs. Consider your split sizes and debris, and ask about jams, cleanup, and maintenance for the specific machine rather than assuming one design is universally better.
- Drive compatibility: Available configurations include electric motors, engine power, and processor- or tractor-driven hydraulics. Confirm hydraulic flow and pressure, return-line requirements, and electrical connection with the manufacturer. Also decide whether the conveyor must run when the processor is stopped.
- Adjustment and positioning: Height adjustment changes discharge elevation. Pivoting or radial-stacking features change where wood lands. They solve different layout problems.
- Screening and cleanup: Grizzlies, trash racks, and separators can remove fines or slivers from the output, but add equipment to the workflow. Choose screening only if cleaner output is worth the extra setup and maintenance.
- Mobility and total cost: Consider towing, portability, attached versus standalone equipment, storage footprint, options, delivery, dealer charges, warranty, parts, and service. A listed base price may not represent the complete installed cost.

Choose length and height for the receiving point
Measure the distance from the conveyor’s working position to the target, then check the discharge height needed to load or build the pile without an awkward slope. Published examples range from 4- and 5-meter POSCH units to commercial models several dozen feet long. These ranges describe available products, not a recommended length for a given annual wood volume.

- 6.5HP GAS ENGINE FOR OFF-GRID OPERATION — Powered by a 208cc single-cylinder, 4-stroke, air-cooled OHV gasoline engine with recoil start, this firewood conveyor delivers hydraulic belt drive performance without requiring an electrical connection. Ideal for woodlots, farms, firewood processing areas, and other outdoor worksites.
- VARIABLE BELT SPEED FOR CONTROLLED MATERIAL FLOW — The hydraulic drive provides adjustable conveyor belt speeds up to 0.7 m/s, allowing you to match the material flow to different splitting, loading, and stacking tasks. Designed for smooth and controlled conveying of firewood and solid materials.
- 12-INCH PVC BELT WITH 110-LB RECOMMENDED LOAD — The 31-ft-long, 0.20-in-thick PVC conveyor belt is designed to move block-shaped materials efficiently. Supports a recommended total load of up to 110 lb, with individual pieces up to 66 lb when properly positioned and distributed across the belt.
- ADJUSTABLE 9.8-FT DISCHARGE HEIGHT — A manual winch allows the conveyor to be raised and secured at the desired working height, with a maximum discharge height of 9.8 ft. The steel frame, pneumatic tires, and tow hitch make it easier to reposition the wood conveyor around the jobsite.
- BUILT FOR FIREWOOD AND SOLID MATERIAL HANDLING — Suitable for split logs, firewood, bricks, sandbags, and securely sealed containers within the stated load limits. Not designed for loose grain, fine particles, unpackaged liquids, or small granular materials. Always follow the recommended load and operating guidelines.
Allow space for setup, movement, and safe operation. A short conveyor may suit a fixed splitter and nearby pile; a longer unit may help reach a truck, trailer, or storage point farther away. Length alone does not establish throughput or suitability.
Choose a drive that matches the power available
Hydraulic drive can integrate with a processor or tractor when the systems are compatible. Electric and engine-powered configurations offer other ways to supply power, subject to the machine’s design and the site’s available connections. The National Firewood Workshop guide describes hydraulic and engine-powered conveyor arrangements; manufacturer pages provide model-specific configurations.

- Our top priority is the safety of our customers. Our portable concrete conveyor systems can make your job easier for a variety of applications including ready-mix concrete, steel fiber, ice, batching, and more.
Before purchase, give the supplier the exact processor or tractor model and ask them to confirm flow, pressure, and return-line requirements for the conveyor. For electric equipment, verify the required connection and supply. If you need independent conveyor operation while processing stops, make that a selection requirement rather than assuming the drive supports it.
Decide whether adjustment, stacking, or screening is worth adding
Height adjustment
Manual winches, jacks, and hydraulic lifts are ways to change discharge elevation. Hydraulic adjustment can be useful when the receiving height changes during a job; it does not by itself move the discharge sideways.

Pivoting and stacking
Pivoting wheels or stacking attachments change where material is deposited, which can help when building a pile or serving more than one unloading position. For example, Blockbuster lists pivoting wheels on its 20–40-foot models, while Built-Rite lists optional stacking features. Confirm the footprint and operating method for the exact model.
Debris separation
A grizzly or separator is intended to screen fines and slivers from the wood stream. BruteForce lists an optional grizzly separator, and Built-Rite lists separator features. Compare the value of cleaner output with the additional equipment and its cleanup requirements.

How to make a practical shortlist
- Map the work route. Identify the splitter or processor position, destination, required reach, discharge height, and space available for setup.
- Choose a drive type. Decide whether the conveyor should use compatible processor or tractor hydraulics, electric power, or its own engine. Confirm all model-specific requirements with the supplier.
- Compare belt and chain options. Consider split size, fines, cleanup, and the maintenance information available for each specific model; do not select on an unsupported durability or productivity claim.
- Add only useful features. Select height adjustment, pivoting or stacking, and screening according to the actual loading and pile-building workflow.
- Request a complete quote. Compare the chosen length and configuration, options, delivery, dealer charges, warranty, parts, and service—not just the headline price.
Built-Rite describes its VT portable conveyors as using 18-inch rough-top belting with 1-inch molded cleats, hydraulic height adjustment, and optional stacking attachments. That is the manufacturer’s product description, not independent evidence of superior performance. See Built-Rite’s specifications and options.
Neither the manufacturer examples nor the cited industry guide establish an independently measured efficiency gain, comparative productivity result, or standard cords-per-hour figure. Treat manufacturer specifications and qualitative claims as product information, not as a substitute for a job-specific fit assessment.
