Best Face Recognition Door Locks: The Top Solutions for Home Security

True facial-recognition door locks remain uncommon. Here is how Lockly Visage compares with Philips models, fingerprint locks, camera locks, and conventional smart deadbolts.

For U.S. homeowners who specifically want facial recognition, the Lockly Visage Zeno Series is the strongest current option identified. It combines face-based unlocking with keypad, fingerprint, phone, wearable, and physical-key entry, and Lockly’s official page advertised a $349 sale price in August 2026 with no monthly subscription for the Lockly Home app.

True face-recognition locks are still a small premium category. Many products marketed as “biometric” use fingerprints or palm recognition instead. That distinction matters: a camera that detects a person—or a doorbell that recognizes motion—is not necessarily authenticating a person’s identity.

What counts as a face-recognition door lock?

Facial recognition captures a face and compares it with an enrolled facial profile before granting access. A residential lock normally performs one-to-one verification: “Does this face match an enrolled user?” It is not usually searching a public database to identify strangers.

#1 Best Overall
Lockly Visage Zeno Smart Lock - Facial Recognition & Fingerprint Deadbolt
  • Your Face is Your Key: Unlock your smart lock for front door effortlessly with Lockly Visage’s advanced facial recognition technology - just walk up, and the lock detects your face to open automatically. Dual infrared sensors ensure accuracy in any lighting, even at night. Your facial data is encrypted and stored securely on the device, ensuring privacy and safety for your home.
  • Unlock Your Home Effortlessly: Enjoy seamless smart home integration with Apple Home Key. Unlock your door with a simple tap on your iPhone or Apple Watch, even when your device is out of power. Manage and share access for guests, ask Siri to unlock, and set up automations directly within the Apple Home app for ultimate convenience.
  • Self-Learning AI Fingerprint & 6 Ways to Unlock: Experience lightning-fast access with a 3D biometric sensor enhanced by AI learning-recognizing fingerprints in just 0.2 seconds while storing up to 99 prints. Perfect for everyone, including the elderly and children. Unlock via fingerprint, Lockly Home app, keypad, physical key, Apple Watch, or Alexa/Google Voice Assistant for versatile keyless entry.
  • Smartphone Control with Built-in Wi-Fi: Take full control of your smart lock from anywhere with the Lockly Home app - no bridge required. Lock or unlock your door remotely, share or revoke access for others, and monitor activity with ease. Built-in Wi-Fi ensures reliable connectivity for your keyless entry door lock.
  • Universal Fit & Easy DIY Installation: Designed to fit right or left swing doors 1 3/8” to 3 1/8” thick, Lockly Visage is easy to install in just 15 minutes with common household tools. Perfect for an effortless upgrade to a smart lock for front door.

Do not confuse it with:

  • Face detection: noticing that a face is present.
  • Person detection: identifying movement or a human-shaped object.
  • Video-doorbell recognition: recording or classifying visitors without authenticating them for entry.
  • Fingerprint or palm recognition: different biometric methods, even when a listing calls them “biometric smart locks.”

A product should appear in a face-recognition comparison only when its manufacturer explicitly says that an enrolled face can unlock the door.

Best overall: Lockly Visage Zeno Series

The Lockly Visage Zeno Series is the clearest match for a U.S. shopper searching specifically for face unlock. Lockly advertises automatic facial-recognition entry and multiple fallback methods, including a keypad, fingerprint access, app control, iPhone and Apple Watch access, and a physical key. Tom’s Guide also lists Visage as its front-door smart-lock recommendation and describes those access options.

Why it leads

  • It directly addresses the hands-free entry use case.
  • Several backup methods reduce the risk of lockout when recognition fails.
  • The official product page is U.S.-oriented and advertised a $349 sale price when observed in August 2026.
  • The Lockly Home app is advertised without a monthly subscription.

That is an editorial recommendation based on documented features and current market positioning—not a laboratory ranking or hands-on test.

Questions to answer before buying

Confirm the exact Zeno model’s supported deadbolt and latch configurations, enrollment capacity, battery runtime, charging procedure, and whether face unlocking works without internet access. Also check where facial profiles are stored—on the lock, in the app, or in a cloud service—and how to delete them.

Find out whether automatic unlocking can be disabled or restricted. A lock that opens simply because a recognized person approaches may be less desirable than one requiring a deliberate action, particularly when several people gather near the entrance.

Wyze Palm Lock, Smart Door Lock with Palm Vein Recognition, Keyless Entry Smart Locks for Front Door, Keypad, Auto Lock, Dual Battery, Wi-Fi, Works with Alexa & Google, BHMA, IP53, Mechanical Key
  • Contactless Palm Vein Recognition — Wyze Palm Lock uses a highly secure biometric technology that reads the unique vein pattern beneath your palm. Simply hover your hand to unlock—no touch needed. Faster and more reliable than fingerprints.
  • Dual-Battery System with Emergency Charging — A 6-month main battery is backed by a 2-week secondary battery. If both drain, use the integrated USB-C port and any power bank for an emergency charge—ensuring you're never locked out.
  • Peace of Mind with Auto Lock — A built-in gyroscope detects the angle and movement of the door in real time. Once it senses the door has closed then it automatically locks, preventing false or jammed locks.
  • Secure & Shareable Access Codes — Create up to 50 unique or one-time guest codes on the illuminated keypad. Our Anti-Peep Technology keeps every code secure, allowing you to add extra digits before or after your real PIN to prevent snooping.
  • Smart Battery Saver — Wyze Palm Lock is equipped with millimeter wave radar, the same used in self-driving cars. It scans for the presence of a person (not just movement) and only “wakes up” the lock when a person is detected.

Regional alternative: Philips 7000 Series

Philips’ 7000-series facial-recognition locks are technically notable. Regional product pages describe dual cameras designed to capture three-dimensional facial features and claim resistance to photographs, videos, and makeup-related changes. Some variants also advertise tamper, low-battery, abnormal-bolt, and system-lock alerts, plus motion notifications from an integrated door viewer.

However, the available official pages are regional—for example, the Philippines, Singapore, and Australia. That does not establish normal U.S. availability.

Before importing or installing one, verify U.S. door compatibility, wireless and electrical compliance, app availability, replacement batteries, warranty service, and whether the model is designed for a U.S. single-cylinder deadbolt rather than a regional mortise or multipoint door.

Best alternatives when face recognition is optional

ULTRALOQ Bolt Pro: fingerprint, NFC, and smart-home flexibility

The ULTRALOQ Bolt Pro does not use facial recognition. It offers fingerprint, Apple Home Key, Android NFC, RFID, keypad, app, watch, auto-unlock, voice control, and physical-key access. Its product page also advertises Matter over Thread.

Choose it when you prefer touch-based authentication, NFC, or broad backup access over a camera-based system. Check the exact model carefully: ULTRALOQ’s support documentation distinguishes built-in Wi-Fi, bridge, and Z-Wave configurations. The listed price observed was $269.99, although the product page showed it as sold out at that time.

eufy Video Smart Lock S330: camera and doorbell integration

The eufy Video Smart Lock S330 is also not a face-recognition lock. It uses fingerprint access and includes a 2K camera, doorbell functions, keypad, app access, Google Assistant, Alexa, and physical keys. The official page states that it supports up to 50 fingerprints and 100 passcode users.

Video is stored locally on the chime with an SD card, while selected cloud features may transmit video or thumbnails. The model requires 2.4-GHz connectivity and, according to the official listing, is not compatible with Apple HomeKit, IFTTT, or Matter at the time shown. It is a sensible camera-plus-lock choice, but a poor fit if face unlock or Apple Home compatibility is essential.

Is facial recognition more secure?

Facial recognition is primarily a convenience feature, not an automatic security upgrade. It enables touchless entry when someone is carrying packages and may help users whose fingerprints are difficult to read. But a face is not a secret. NIST notes that biometric characteristics are generally non-secret and that facial images can be captured by taking a picture.

Presentation-attack detection—such as distinguishing a live person from a photograph or video—is important. Philips specifically makes anti-spoofing claims, but those remain manufacturer claims rather than an independently verified guarantee. Consumer lock makers generally do not publish comparable false-acceptance and false-rejection rates under realistic household conditions.

Factor Face recognition Fingerprint
Hands-free entry Strong advantage Requires touching the reader
Darkness Depends on the camera and lighting system Usually unaffected
Hats, masks, sunglasses May reduce reliability Usually irrelevant
Wet or dirty hands Not relevant May reduce reliability
Privacy exposure Faces can be captured at a distance Fingerprints can also be copied from surfaces
Appearance changes Aging, hair, glasses, and facial hair may matter Generally stable, but damaged fingers can be difficult to read

Neither modality is universally safer. Security depends on presentation-attack protection, account security, local versus cloud processing, fallback access, and the mechanical strength of the deadbolt. A smart camera does not make a weak lock physically resistant to forced entry.

Mechanical security matters more than the novelty of the sensor

Before buying, verify the exact model’s recognized mechanical certification, deadbolt construction, resistance claims, and compatibility with your door. Do not generalize a certification from one product in a brand family to another.

Confirm that the lock replaces a standard U.S. single-cylinder deadbolt if that is what your home has. A motorized lock can struggle when a door is sagging or the bolt rubs against the strike plate. The interior thumb turn should remain usable during power and network failures, and the exterior hardware should resist tampering, drilling, prying, and forced removal to the extent documented by the manufacturer.

Privacy questions to ask

Biometric data deserves more scrutiny than an ordinary door PIN. NIST guidance emphasizes clear information about biometric collection, storage, protection, deletion, retention, and consent. The FTC has also warned about biometric privacy, security, error, discrimination, and the risks of databases becoming attractive targets.

  • Are facial templates stored locally, in the cloud, or both?
  • Are photographs or video retained separately from biometric templates?
  • Can you delete individual users and all biometric data?
  • How long are images, thumbnails, and logs retained?
  • Is cloud backup optional?
  • Does the lock work locally if the vendor’s cloud service is unavailable?
  • Does the account support two-factor authentication?
  • Can a voice assistant unlock the door only after an additional PIN?

“Local video storage” does not automatically mean facial data is local, and an encryption claim is not the same as an independent privacy audit.

Installation and setup checklist

  1. Measure door thickness and the backset—often 2 3/8 or 2 3/4 inches on U.S. residential doors, subject to the lock’s specifications.
  2. Confirm the door uses a supported deadbolt, latch, mortise, or multipoint format.
  3. Repair sagging, binding, or strike-plate alignment problems first.
  4. Check Wi-Fi strength at the door if remote control is important.
  5. Install the manufacturer’s app and prepare the account before removing the existing lock.
  6. Charge or install batteries before setup.
  7. Enroll more than one face if supported, then add a backup PIN or physical key.
  8. Test every function with the door open before closing it.
  9. Test daylight, low light, glasses, hats, different approach angles, and weather conditions.
  10. Test failures: dead battery, no Wi-Fi, no internet, unavailable app, and unrecognized face.
  11. Store the emergency key somewhere genuinely secure—not under a mat or in an obvious fake rock.
  12. Enable low-battery, tamper, forced-entry, and abnormal-bolt alerts where available.

Common failure modes

Recognition may fail because of backlighting, a dirty lens, rain, sunglasses, masks, helmets, major appearance changes, children’s changing faces, similar-looking people, or a camera mounted too high or low. Mechanical failures commonly result from door misalignment, a blocked thumb turn, depleted batteries, or an unsupported door type.

Network problems include a changed Wi-Fi password, router replacement, cloud outage, lost phone, disabled app permissions, Bluetooth pairing failure, or a failed Matter/Thread border router. Test local entry separately from remote app control: internet failure should not eliminate every backup method.

Who should skip a facial-recognition lock?

  • Buyers who are uncomfortable with cameras or biometric data.
  • Anyone needing independently published household accuracy and security testing.
  • People with a mechanically unreliable or unusual door.
  • Households requiring simple access for many guests, renters, or service workers.
  • Buyers unwilling to maintain a vendor account or smartphone app.
  • U.S. shoppers considering a regional model without confirmed compatibility, warranty, and support.

Recommendations by use case

  • Best U.S. face-unlock option: Lockly Visage Zeno Series.
  • Best regional facial-recognition alternative: Philips 7000 Series, where officially sold and supported.
  • Best non-face biometric alternative: ULTRALOQ Bolt Pro.
  • Best camera-and-lock combination: eufy Video Smart Lock S330.
  • Best privacy-first approach: a conventional smart deadbolt with a keypad and physical key, or a biometric lock that clearly documents local-only biometric processing and deletion.
