The best fit depends on whether you want to brew coffee in the pot or simply heat and serve it. GSI Outdoors currently lists two enamelware percolators, in 8-cup and 12-cup sizes, and a separate 8-cup enamel coffee pot with a lid. The plain pot is not listed as a percolator, so choose one of the percolators if you want its included brewing insert.

Enamel coffee pot or percolator: what’s the difference?

An enamel coffee pot is a general-purpose vessel for holding or heating liquid. GSI describes its Camping Coffee Pot for coffee or tea and for heating water, but does not list it as a percolator. A percolator has a brewing insert; GSI’s 8-cup and 12-cup enamelware models both include one.

That distinction matters when shopping: the 8-cup pot and 8-cup percolator share the same listed dimensions, but they are different products with different brewing designs.

Compare the documented options

Product Type and stated capacity Dimensions Material and included parts Best suited to
GSI Outdoors 8 Cup Percolator Percolator; 8 cups — GSI Outdoors, current product listing accessed 2026 8 × 5.9 × 9 in — GSI Outdoors, current product listing accessed 2026 Enameled steel; percolator insert included Campers who want an enamel percolator in the smaller listed size
GSI Outdoors 12 Cup Percolator Percolator; 12 cups — GSI Outdoors, current product listing accessed 2026 8.7 × 7 × 10.2 in — GSI Outdoors, current product listing accessed 2026 Enameled steel; percolator insert included; resin viewing cap Those who want the larger of GSI’s listed enamel percolators
GSI Outdoors Camping Coffee Pot General coffee pot; 8 cups — GSI Outdoors, current product listing accessed 2026 8 × 5.9 × 9 in — GSI Outdoors, current product listing accessed 2026 Enameled steel; lid Heating water or making coffee or tea without a listed percolator insert
Coleman Stainless Steel Percolator, 12 Cup Percolator; 12 cups — Coleman, current product listing accessed 2026 Not stated by Coleman’s listing Stainless steel; base, tube, basket, and basket lid; no filter needed, according to Coleman A non-enamel alternative for shoppers open to stainless steel

Capacity and dimensions above are manufacturer-stated specifications, not independent measurements. The GSI product pages do not define the volume of a “cup” or promise a particular number of servings. The Coleman option is included only as a material alternative; it is not an enamel pick.

Which enamel model should you choose?

Choose the 8-cup GSI percolator for a smaller listed capacity

It has an included insert and the same listed dimensions as GSI’s general-purpose 8-cup pot: 8 × 5.9 × 9 inches. The manufacturer describes the percolator as enameled steel.

Choose the 12-cup GSI percolator for the larger listed capacity

Its listed dimensions are 8.7 × 7 × 10.2 inches. The larger stated capacity may better match a group’s needs, but the product page does not define cup volume or servings, so compare the figure as a manufacturer label rather than a guaranteed number of mugs.

GRIP Coffee Percolator (Blue) - Durable Glazed Enamel Steel - Prepare Coffee Over the Fire - Camping, Hiking, Backpacking, Fishing, Hunting - (8 Cups)
  • Use for preparing coffee while camping over the fire.
  • Heavy glazed enamel steel is rustproof and durable.

  • Capacity: 8 cups.

Choose the plain GSI pot if versatility matters more than percolating

The 8-cup Camping Coffee Pot has a lid and is described for coffee, tea, and heating water for camp chores. It does not have a percolator insert listed, so it is not the choice for brewing by percolation.

What GSI says about enamel construction

For both enamelware percolators, GSI describes heavy-gauge steel, speckled enamel, three-ply construction, and an enamel finish kiln-hardened twice at 1000°F. Those are manufacturer construction claims, not independently verified durability results. The available product information does not establish comparative chip resistance or long-term reliability.

Care and safe use

Hand-wash and dry thoroughly

GSI’s care guidance is to hand wash with warm, soapy water, dry thoroughly, and avoid abrasive cleaners. This applies to preserving the enamel finish; follow the product’s own directions if they differ.

Follow the percolator warnings while heating

  • Do not overfill or allow the percolator to boil dry.
  • Do not open the lid or remove the viewing top while it is heating.
  • Let the unit cool before cleaning or disassembling it.
  • Do not cool it rapidly.

GSI’s 12-cup listing gives the specific warning: “DANGER: NEVER OPEN LID OR REMOVE PERCVIEW TOP WHILE HEATING.”

How to make the choice

  1. Decide whether you need brewing hardware. For percolating coffee, select one of the two GSI percolators with an included insert. For a general pot for coffee, tea, or hot water, consider the separate Camping Coffee Pot.
  2. Compare the stated capacity with your group’s needs. GSI lists its percolators as 8 cups and 12 cups, but does not define cup volume or servings.
  3. Check the dimensions against your packing space. The 12-cup percolator is larger on all three listed measurements than the 8-cup model.
  4. Check current price and availability with the seller. Listings can change; the specifications here do not establish a current price or stock status.

These documented differences support a practical shortlist, not a tested ranking. The product information does not provide comparable weight figures across all four options or evidence for brew quality, heat-up time, or real-world durability.
