No electric kettle has been shown by the evidence reviewed here to improve health simply by being used. A kettle heats water; choosing one for health means focusing on safe handling, the materials its maker discloses, and using the right water temperature for the task. Most importantly, boiling does not remove lead already in water.
What is the best electric kettle for health?
There is no established healthiest or objectively best-performing electric kettle among the models covered here: the available evidence does not include independent comparative health or performance tests. Treat “for health” as a practical selection question, not a promised health benefit. Compare the exact model’s water-contact materials, controls, handling and safety features, capacity, and cleaning guidance.
Two manufacturer-documented examples illustrate different features, but neither is an independently tested winner:
| Model | Temperature features | Materials disclosed by manufacturer | Other listed feature |
|---|---|---|---|
| Breville the IQ Kettle, BKE820XL | Five temperature settings listed for black, green, white, and oolong tea and French press coffee | Brushed stainless-steel model; the cited product page does not establish that every water-contact component is stainless steel | Keep-warm feature and soft-opening lid |
| Fellow Corvo EKG | Exact temperature control from 40–100°C, according to Fellow’s current product page accessed in 2026 | 304 18/8 stainless-steel body; Fellow also discloses BPA-free plastic in the handle and lid pull | Manufacturer-listed product specification; the listed temperature range is not a health outcome |
These are manufacturer specifications, not independent test results. Check the current product page and manual for the exact version you are considering; features and availability may change. Breville’s BKE820XL product page; Fellow’s Corvo EKG product page.

Are stainless steel or glass electric kettles safer?
The evidence cited here does not establish that stainless steel or glass kettles are generally healthier than other kettles. A material label alone is not a complete inventory of everything that touches water or steam, and it does not establish a health benefit. Check what the manufacturer says about the body, interior, lid, filter, spout, and other water-contact components separately from the handle, base, and exterior.
For example, Fellow describes the Corvo EKG’s body as 304 18/8 stainless steel but also identifies BPA-free plastic in its handle and lid pull. “Stainless steel” therefore should not be read as “every component is steel,” while “BPA-free” alone does not prove that a kettle improves health. Consult the product documentation rather than inferring the composition of undisclosed parts.

Does boiling water in an electric kettle remove lead?
No. The US Environmental Protection Agency states: “No, boiling water does not remove lead.” Do not use a kettle to treat lead-contaminated water. If you are concerned about lead in your drinking water, follow your local water authority’s guidance on testing and appropriate treatment. US EPA: Basic information about lead in drinking water.
A kettle product-safety limit is a different issue from lead already present in source water. Canada’s Kettles Regulations say a kettle must not release more than 0.01 ppm lead under the regulation’s test. The test heats and boils one litre of distilled and deionized water for a total of 15 minutes, then measures lead after cooling. That is a product-release limit under a specified test—not evidence that boiling removes lead from drinking water. Government of Canada, Kettles Regulations (2016).

What features should I look for in a health-conscious kettle?
Water-contact materials and cleaning
Look for clear manufacturer information about all parts that contact water or steam, not just the kettle’s advertised body material. Follow the specific manual’s cleaning and descaling directions; do not assume instructions for one model apply to another.
Handling and scald protection
Auto shut-off and boil-dry protection can be useful features, but no single feature eliminates scald risk. Consider whether the lid opens and closes securely, whether pouring feels controlled, and whether the kettle can leak hot water if tipped. Keep hot kettles and cords out of children’s reach, use any safety lock as directed, and inspect lids and components for wear.

Japan’s Consumer Affairs Agency reports child scald incidents involving hot water spilled when kettles were pulled or tipped. It describes a 50 ml maximum leakage criterion in its summary of the Japanese tip-over test and says requirements for tip-over water-leakage countermeasures apply to kettles newly manufactured or imported in Japan from June 2026. The agency also cautions that older stock may still be sold. This is Japan-specific, not a rule to assume applies elsewhere. Japan Consumer Affairs Agency: child safety guidance on kettles.
Capacity, placement, and upkeep
Choose a capacity that suits the amount of water your household actually uses, and place the kettle on a stable surface away from counter edges. Keep the cord where a child cannot tug it. Regularly check the lid and other parts for damage, and use the model’s manual for cleaning and descaling.

Do I need a variable-temperature kettle?
Usually, only if you want selectable temperatures for preparing particular drinks or other tasks. Temperature control is a convenience, not a demonstrated health benefit. A variable-temperature model may offer a separate boil setting, but verify the controls on the exact model rather than assuming every kettle works the same way.
For boil-water-advisory guidance, the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines say to set a variable-temperature kettle to boil. Follow the current instructions from your local water authority, which take precedence for your location. Australian Drinking Water Guidelines: boil-water advisories.
Special case: preparing powdered infant formula
Formula preparation is a sensitive, separate use case; follow current local health guidance and the formula maker’s instructions. The UK Food Standards Agency page summarizes World Health Organization guidance that water used to mix powdered infant formula should be at least 70°C. It also summarizes NHS advice to use freshly boiled water within 30 minutes so it remains at least 70°C. These are the guidance details reported by the FSA page, not a substitute for current instructions applicable where you live.
