The right electric fabric cutter depends on how you work: choose AccuQuilt’s GO! Bolt for a portable, die-based quilting workflow; GO! Big Electric if you want an automatic machine and can accommodate its greater weight; or Cricut Maker 4 if custom digital shapes and broad craft-material support matter more than batch-cutting quilt pieces. These are different systems, so compare compatible dies or tools, material and layer guidance, accessories, and storage before choosing.
What is the best electric fabric cutter for quilting?
For quilters who want a compact automatic die cutter and whose patterns use compatible GO! dies, the AccuQuilt GO! Bolt is the strongest fit among these options. AccuQuilt lists it at 9.5 lb with a 10-inch cutting width, compatibility with more than 370 GO! dies, and capacity for up to six layers of cotton. Those are manufacturer specifications, not results from independent comparative testing.
The Bolt’s starter set includes one 5-inch square die and a 6 × 6-inch cutting mat. That is a starting accessory set, not a guarantee it includes the shapes needed for your quilt. Check the pattern’s required shapes and the cost and storage needs of the compatible dies and mats before buying. AccuQuilt’s current US product listing displayed a $399.99 special price and $459.99 regular price when accessed in 2026; prices can change. See the GO! Bolt starter set specifications.
How do the three machines differ?
| Machine | Best fit | Operation and supported system | Published figures | Main constraint |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| AccuQuilt GO! Bolt | Portable die cutting for quilting and sewing, including small workspaces or retreats | Automatic; uses compatible GO! dies and mats | 9.5 lb; 10-inch cutting width; more than 370 GO! dies; up to six cotton layers | Not recommended for specified GO! Rag dies or some projects involving quilted layers. Verify the exact die and material guidance. |
| AccuQuilt GO! Big Electric | Automatic die cutting when a larger, heavier machine suits the workspace and handling needs | Automatic; uses GO! dies | 23 lb; up to six fabric layers; more than 450 GO! dies | The general layer figure does not establish compatibility with every die, stacked material, or quilted project. |
| Cricut Maker 4 | Designers prioritizing custom digital shapes and a broad range of craft materials | Computer-guided cutting through Design Space; compatible with 13 tools | Works with 300+ materials, including fabric | The cited specifications do not establish AccuQuilt-style multi-layer batch quilting performance. |
AccuQuilt’s current comparison page displayed a $699.99 special price and $799.99 regular price for the GO! Big Electric starter set when accessed in 2026. These are time-sensitive US manufacturer-page prices, not marketplace quotations. Its comparison lists the machine as portable and foldable, but its 23 lb weight still matters if you will move or store it frequently. Check AccuQuilt’s current cutter comparison.

Cricut’s material and tool counts describe versatility, not equivalent quilting throughput. Its free Design Space app provides material cut settings; the workflow involves digital designs and tool selection rather than choosing a shaped quilting die and feeding fabric through an automatic die cutter. Review Cricut Maker 4’s current specifications.
Can an electric fabric cutter cut several layers at once?
Both AccuQuilt machines are listed with a capacity of up to six fabric layers in the comparison information, while AccuQuilt’s Bolt materials specifically describe up to six layers of cotton. Treat these as manufacturer guidance, not a promise that every fabric, die, or project can be cut in six layers. The Bolt page advises, “Always begin with fewer layers and build up.” Follow the current instructions for the specific die and material, particularly when working with batting, rag-quilt pieces, or already-quilted fabric.

Do not infer that Cricut Maker 4 can match this batch-cutting approach from its 300+ material figure. The cited Cricut page establishes fabric compatibility, but not a multi-layer quilting limit or a direct throughput comparison with AccuQuilt.
Which fabric cutter is easiest on sore hands?
AccuQuilt’s comparison identifies GO! Big Electric as especially suitable for people with arthritis and lists it as automatic. That positioning may make it worth considering if reducing manual operation is a priority, but it is a manufacturer characterization rather than an independent ergonomic assessment. The GO! Big Electric weighs 23 lb, so consider lifting, setup, and storage as well as the cutting action.

The Bolt is also automatic and weighs 9.5 lb, which may be easier to move between locations than the heavier GO! Big Electric. Neither weight nor automation alone establishes which machine will feel comfortable for a particular person. If possible, consider how you will position the machine, load fabric and dies, and handle mats during your actual workflow.

- Choose AccuQuilt when you regularly cut quilting shapes from patterns that use GO! dies and want an automatic die-cutting workflow. The Bolt is the lighter option; the GO! Big Electric is the larger automatic alternative.
- Choose Cricut Maker 4 when digital custom shapes and cutting across many craft materials are more important than a stated multi-layer quilting capacity. Its workflow depends on Design Space, selected tools, and material settings.
- Pause before choosing either system if your projects rely on rag dies, batting, or already-quilted layers. Check the exact machine, die or tool, and material instructions rather than relying on a general layer count.
The cited manufacturer pages do not provide independent comparative test results, measured cross-brand speed, long-term reliability findings, or broad user-satisfaction data. Claims about cutting performance, accuracy, safety, comfort, and speed should therefore be understood as manufacturer information where stated, not as independently verified rankings.
Do I need special dies for an electric fabric cutter?
For the AccuQuilt GO! Bolt and GO! Big Electric, yes: the machines use compatible GO! dies, and fabric is cut with the shape carried by the selected die. Confirm that the die fits the machine and supports your intended fabric and project. The Bolt’s more-than-370-die compatibility figure does not mean every die is appropriate for every material or quilt construction.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Cricut Maker 4 uses a different system: digital designs in Design Space and compatible tools, with material cut settings in the app. Its design flexibility does not remove the need to check tool and fabric requirements for the project.
Quick Recap
What to check before buying
- Match your pattern: List the shapes and materials you actually need to cut, then confirm the die or digital-tool workflow supports them.
- Check layer and material instructions: Do not assume cotton guidance applies to batting, rag-quilt pieces, or quilted layers.
- Budget for the complete system: Include compatible dies, mats, and any additional shapes needed beyond the Bolt starter set’s square die.
- Plan for handling and storage: Compare the Bolt’s 9.5 lb weight with the GO! Big Electric’s 23 lb weight, and account for the space needed for mats and dies.
- Recheck current prices and availability: The AccuQuilt prices quoted here were displayed on US manufacturer pages accessed in 2026 and may have changed. Marketplace prices may differ.
