Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteFor cooling without air purification, choose the Dyson Cool Tower Fan AM07. For cooling and filtration in one appliance, the Dyson Purifier Cool PC1 is the clearest fit. The TP07 suits shoppers seeking its established connected purifier-fan platform, while the TP09 is a specialist option for formaldehyde-focused treatment. None of these fans is an air conditioner: they move air to help people feel cooler, and purifier models add filtration.

These are use-case recommendations, not results from comparative hands-on testing. Dyson’s purifying tower-fan category lists several models, but a higher-looking model number alone does not establish stronger cooling or better value.
First decide whether you need a fan or a purifier-fan
Cooling-only: AM07
The AM07 is a tall fan for moving air. Dyson classifies it as “Personal Cooling”; it is not a HEPA air purifier. At 39.6 inches tall, 6.3 pounds, and with a 7.5-inch base, it has a relatively narrow footprint. Its 10 speed settings, 70-degree oscillation and magnetized remote cover the essentials for directing airflow around a room. See Dyson’s AM07 page for current details.
#1 Best Overall
- The fully sealed filter system combines an Activated carbon filter to remove gases with a HEPA filter that captures 99.97% of microscopic allergens² and pollutants as small as 0.3 microns.¹
- The whole purifier, not just the filtration system, is fully sealed to HEPA H13 grade – so what goes inside, stays inside.³
- Dyson Air Multiplier technology projects over 76 gallons per second of smooth, yet powerful airflow⁷ to cool you in summer.⁶
- Captures 97% of odors such as cooking odors, pet odors and smoke.⁸
- Control and monitor air quality from anywhere using the MyDyson app, or hands-free with compatible voice services.⁵
Cooling and filtration: PC1, TP07, TP09 and TP10
These are purifier-fans: they combine airflow with model-specific filtration, and some add pollutant sensing, app control or specialized treatment. They cost more to buy and maintain than a fan without a replacement filter. Do not assume that every model in the family has identical filtration, controls or performance. Dyson’s category page is useful for identifying models currently listed, but check the individual model page and documentation for the exact configuration.
Best Dyson tower fans by use case
Best for straightforward cooling: AM07
Choose the AM07 if the goal is a directed breeze and filtration is unnecessary. Its specifications include 10 speeds, 70-degree oscillation, 39.6-inch height, a 6.3-pound weight, and a magnetized remote. Dyson’s page showed $399.99 and out-of-stock status when checked; other page states have shown different promotional pricing, so treat that figure as a snapshot rather than a permanent price. The official listing is Dyson Cool Tower Fan AM07.
Skip it if you want particle filtration, odor reduction, or air-quality sensing. A conventional fan may also be a better fit if purchase price or airflow per dollar is your priority, though no comparative test here establishes a universal performance winner.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Best for cooling plus general purification: PC1
The PC1 is the most straightforward choice when one appliance should provide both airflow and filtration. Dyson lists HEPA H13 and activated-carbon filtration, automatic pollutant sensing, MyDyson app control, compatible voice-service support, 10 speeds and 350-degree oscillation. The white model is 41.3 inches tall and weighs 10.4 pounds. Dyson says to replace its combined filter every 12 months or when the machine notifies you. Its white/white page showed $549.99 and in-stock status when checked; another finish showed different price signals. Check the exact finish at Dyson’s PC1 page.
Dyson says the PC1 captures 99.97% of particles as small as 0.3 microns. That is the manufacturer’s product claim, not a guarantee that the appliance removes 99.97% of all pollution from a room in every setting. Results depend on factors such as room conditions, placement, operating speed and filter state. Skip the PC1 if you only need a breeze and do not want the added purchase and filter costs.
Best when TP07’s specific platform suits you: TP07
The TP07 combines a fan with a sealed 360-degree glass HEPA and activated-carbon filter. It offers pollutant sensing, remote and MyDyson app controls, and voice-service compatibility. Dyson recommends replacing the filter every 12 months or when notified. Its technical sheet lists 10 speeds, 350-degree oscillation, a maximum fan-mode airflow of 290 L/s and a maximum fan-mode sound level of 61.4 dB. Dyson’s U.S. page showed $649.99 and out-of-stock status when checked, making this an availability-sensitive choice rather than a default pick. See the TP07 product page and TP07 technical specification.
At a substantially higher observed price than the PC1, the TP07 is difficult to justify unless its particular feature set, offer or availability works better for you. The listed airflow and sound figures are manufacturer specifications, not an independent comparison with other models.
Best for a specific formaldehyde concern: TP09
The TP09 is a specialist purifier-fan for shoppers specifically seeking formaldehyde-related treatment. Its technical sheet lists 10 speeds, 350-degree oscillation, a maximum fan-mode airflow of 390 L/s, and a maximum fan-mode sound level of 59.7 dB. It also lists MyDyson app support and sleep-timer increments of 1, 2, 4 and 8 hours. Consult the TP09 technical specification rather than assuming its filtration or controls match another TP model. A current U.S. price was not established here; find and verify the live offer through Dyson’s purifying tower-fan category.

- Air Multiplier technology amplifies the surrounding air, giving an uninterrupted stream of smooth airflow.
- With 10 precise airflow settings. Powerful, amplified airflow cools you in hot weather.
- The Remote control is curved and magnetized to store neatly on your Dyson Cool Tower Fan.
- The Sleep timer can be programmed to turn off after pre-set intervals, from 15 minutes to 9 hours.
- Smooth oscillation directs airflow around the room. Oscillates at a 70 ° angle.
A specialized appliance is not a substitute for addressing a suspected source, ventilation, or professional evaluation when there is a serious indoor-air concern. If formaldehyde is not a specific reason for your purchase, the TP09’s specialized feature set may add cost without serving your needs.
TP10: verify its exact specifications first
Dyson’s category page lists the TP10, but the available model-specific information does not establish its filtration details, connectivity, dimensions, price or current availability. Do not infer these from the TP07 or TP09. Check the individual product listing and technical documentation before comparing or buying.
What a Dyson fan can—and cannot—do
A cooling breeze is not air conditioning
A fan moves air across the skin, which can increase evaporation and make a person feel cooler. It generally does not lower the room’s actual temperature through refrigeration; its motor can add a small amount of heat. A fan may help an air-conditioned room feel more comfortable, but that is a comfort strategy, not a verified energy-saving guarantee. For actual temperature reduction, consider air conditioning rather than a tower fan.

Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Air Multiplier is Dyson’s description, not independent test evidence
Dyson describes Air Multiplier technology as amplifying airflow and makes claims of up to 15-times amplification on some product pages. Treat that as Dyson’s engineering and marketing description, not an independent performance measurement or a sufficient basis for ranking models. Number of speeds and branding alone do not tell you how much airflow you will feel at your preferred noise level.
“Bladeless” describes the exposed design
The loop-style design removes exposed rotating blades at the front, and its exterior can be easier to wipe than a conventional fan grille. The fan still has internal moving parts and remains an electrical appliance: use a stable surface, keep its cord clear of walkways, and follow the model’s safety instructions. “Bladeless” does not mean silent, maintenance-free or risk-free.
Choosing by room, noise and air-quality need
Bedrooms: compare low-speed sound and controls
Noise figures are model- and test-specific. The TP07 technical sheet gives up to 46 dB at its stated minimum-flow measurement and up to 61.4 dB at maximum fan-mode flow; the TP09 sheet gives up to 46 dB at minimum-flow measurement and 59.7 dB at maximum fan-mode flow. These manufacturer figures do not guarantee how quiet either unit will seem at your bedside. Speed, distance, room acoustics, oscillation and filter condition all affect perceived sound. See the TP07 sheet and TP09 sheet for their stated conditions.
For bedroom use, consider whether you need filtration, whether remote control is convenient, and whether you will use app functions such as scheduling or air-quality history. Check the exact model’s display, night and control behavior in its documentation; do not assume every model handles them the same way. If sound is critical, a return window may be useful for judging the fan in your own room.

If particle filtration is a requirement, look at a purifier-fan rather than the AM07. HEPA filtration targets particles; activated carbon is intended for certain gases and odors. Neither feature means that all pollutants or smells will be removed, and no purifier makes smoke exposure safe. Performance depends on room size, placement, fan speed, filter condition and how long the unit runs. Consider a purifier-fan as an air-treatment appliance, not a medical treatment or a substitute for reducing exposure at the source.

Large rooms and placement
AM07’s base is 7.5 inches in diameter; PC1’s is 8.7 inches. Purifier-fans also need clear intake and outlet airflow. Avoid placing them behind furniture or curtains or so close to a wall that circulation is restricted. A tall, narrow purifier-fan may not be the most suitable approach for a large open-plan area; ceiling fans, high-airflow circulators or conventional tower fans are other categories to compare. For actual temperature reduction, consider portable or window air conditioning.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Dyson versus a conventional tower fan: weigh the whole purchase
Dyson’s design, remote control and—on purifier models—integrated filtration and smart features may justify a premium for a shopper who will use them. A conventional tower fan may be a better fit for someone focused on low upfront cost or straightforward airflow. There is no universal winner without comparable testing of airflow, noise and price across the exact models you are considering.
Compare total ownership cost rather than sticker price alone:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsTotal ownership cost = purchase price + replacement filters + electricity + accessories − any value you place on warranty and return terms.
The AM07 does not add a purifier-filter replacement expense. PC1 and TP07 do: Dyson recommends a combined-filter change every 12 months or when the machine notifies the owner, with actual timing potentially varying by use and pollution load. Filter cost is model-specific; confirm the correct official replacement filter and live price rather than assuming filters fit across PC, TP and AM models. Electricity use also depends on operating time and settings. TP07’s technical sheet lists a maximum input power of 40 W, minimum input power of 6 W and standby consumption below 0.5 W; those are TP07 specifications, not universal figures for the range.
Buying checklist before you order
- Do you need filtration, or only a cooling breeze? Choose by function, not by the word “tower.”
- Is app control useful to you? If you do not want account setup or rely on physical controls, check what the exact model can do from its remote and on-machine controls.
- Is formaldehyde-focused treatment a specific requirement, or would general particle and carbon filtration meet your purpose?
- Will the fan be used in a bedroom? Review low-speed sound information and consider whether the return terms let you assess it at home.
- Can you accept the ongoing cost and replacement schedule for a purifier model’s filter?
- Will the unit fit with its airflow paths unobstructed, and can you place the cord safely?
- Does the exact color and model page show the price and stock you expect? Dyson’s observed prices varied by finish and promotion.
- Verify the seller, model number, condition and warranty. Dyson’s category page describes a price-match promise with conditions, including eligible authorized retailers and the exact same model; confirm current terms before relying on it. See Dyson’s category and policy information.
Maintenance and ownership details
Replace, do not just clean, an exhausted main filter
For PC1 and TP07, Dyson recommends filter replacement every 12 months or when notified. Actual life may vary with use and pollution load. Cleaning the exterior or accessible surfaces is not a substitute for replacing an exhausted filter. Act on a filter alert, and use the exact model-compatible replacement; a generic listing should not be assumed compatible or genuine. Check Dyson’s PC1 or TP07 product information for current replacement guidance and official filter availability.
Keep intake, outlet and controls accessible
Keep the unit stable and its airflow unobstructed. If app setup or Wi-Fi is inconvenient, check the specific model manual for the remote and on-device functions rather than assuming the appliance depends entirely on the app. The PC1 user manual describes that model’s operation.

Quick Recap
Bottom line: choose by the job, not by the model number
- Cooling only: AM07, if its live price and availability make sense to you.
- Cooling plus general purification: PC1 is the clearest current fit in the available product information.
- TP07: Consider it when its particular connected purifier-fan feature set suits you and it is available at a price you accept.
- Formaldehyde-specific treatment: Investigate TP09 and confirm the current U.S. offer and model-specific documentation.
- TP10: Verify its individual specifications and price before treating it as a contender.
- Price-sensitive, cooling-only shopping: Compare the live Dyson price with a conventional fan; do not pay for filtration or smart features you will not use.
