The right dishwashing gloves are the pair that fits your hands, gives you a secure grip on wet dishes, and has enough cuff coverage for your sink. Material, lining, thickness and care instructions matter too. Food Network Kitchen’s 2026 tested roundup names different winners for overall use, latex-free material, value and heavy-duty scrubbing; those are its editorial test judgments, not independent testing for this guide.
How to choose dishwashing gloves
Check the material and latex status
Do not assume every glove described as rubber or made for cleaning has the same material. Food Network Kitchen identifies its Wahoo PVC and Alimat Plus PVC picks as latex-free, while its VGo Extra-Thick pick is latex. Vileda lists Fresh Comfort as 100% natural latex, and IKEA says RINNIG contains natural rubber (latex). If you avoid latex, check the exact product label and listing before buying rather than relying on a general product category. Food Network Kitchen’s 2026 roundup, Vileda’s Fresh Comfort product page and IKEA’s RINNIG listing identify the materials for those specific models.
Prioritize fit, then balance thickness and dexterity
Gloves should be easy to put on and remove and should let you maneuver dishes without feeling uncomfortably loose or tight. Food Network Kitchen assessed fit, thickness and maneuverability in its tests, and notes that sizing varies by brand. Its tested gloves commonly had 12-inch sleeves; it suggests looking for sleeves up to 15 inches if you want more forearm coverage. Treat those lengths as guidance from that roundup, not a universal standard.
Thicker gloves may suit heavier scrubbing, but thickness can come with a comfort or dexterity trade-off. Food Network Kitchen chose VGo Extra-Thick for heavy-duty use and reported that the inside of its tested pair became hot over time. That observation applies to the tested product, not all thick gloves.

Look for grip texture and useful cuff coverage
Food Network Kitchen evaluated how gloves handled soapy dishes and noted textured or embossed grip designs. Its Wahoo PVC pick’s embossed pattern performed as claimed in that publisher’s test. A longer cuff may help keep splashes from entering at the wrist when working at a deep sink; consider the sleeve length alongside how the glove fits your forearm.
Choose a lining that suits your preference
A lining can change how a glove feels against your hand. Food Network Kitchen describes cotton flock lining in Casabella Premium Waterblock and Wahoo PVC, while Alimat Plus is unlined. Vileda lists a foam lining for Fresh Comfort. The sources do not establish that one lining type is best for every wearer, so use construction details as a comparison point and consider how easy the glove will be to put on and remove.

What glove claims do—and do not—tell you
Product features and editorial tests can help compare fit, grip, waterproofing and cuff coverage, but they do not establish a universal safe water temperature or a cut-protection rating for ordinary dishwashing gloves. Do not treat wearing gloves as making hot water or sharp items risk-free. Check the specific product instructions and handle hot dishes, knives and broken glass with care.
Food Network Kitchen describes evaluating fit, grip, waterproofing and resistance to splatter entering a glove. Good Housekeeping describes assessing performance, ease of use and fit, including checking glove effectiveness under hot tap water for at least 15 seconds. These are publisher-described testing approaches, not a safety certification or a guarantee that every glove will perform the same way for every person.
