The right Dimplex heater depends first on where it will be installed and whether it needs to be fixed or portable. Then match the exact model’s heating output, dimensions, electrical supply, controls, and approved location to the room and installation. Dimplex sells several distinct heater types, so a baseboard, wall heater, workshop unit, and outdoor infrared heater are not interchangeable choices.

Start with the room and installation

Before comparing models, identify the intended location and how the heater will be installed. A permanently mounted indoor room heater has different requirements from a plug-in portable unit, a garage heater, or an outdoor infrared model.

  • Indoor room: Consider baseboard, fan-forced wall, or convection models, subject to the model’s installation instructions.
  • Bathroom or laundry room: Use only a model permitted for that application, and follow required clearances, wiring rules, and thermostat placement.
  • Garage or workshop: Compare garage/workshop models, including the larger fan-forced EUH units, against the space and electrical supply.
  • Outdoor or semi-enclosed area: Choose only a model designed for that location; Dimplex names DIR and DLW infrared heaters as examples.
  • Portable use: Check whether the product is specifically designed to plug in and whether its voltage and wattage suit the intended circuit.

Dimplex says its HEAT products are electric resistance heaters and do not require external venting or ductwork. It also says its HEAT products are certified by CSA or UL for indoor operation and have automatic thermal cut-outs and overheat protection. Those general statements do not replace the exact model’s manual, which governs installation, clearances, electrical work, and restrictions. Dimplex Heat FAQ and documentation

How the Dimplex heater categories differ

Dimplex’s US catalog includes several categories, each suited to a different installation context. Use the category to narrow the search, then verify the product specifications rather than assuming all models in a family perform alike. Dimplex electric heater catalog

Category Typical selection question What to verify
Baseboard Does a low-profile, fixed heater fit the wall and room? Model length, wattage, voltage, mounting, controls, and clearances
Fan-forced wall Is a wall-mounted heater with fan-forced heat appropriate? Exact output, electrical requirements, installation location, and controls
Convection Is a convection heater appropriate for the room and installation? Wattage, dimensions, voltage, thermostat arrangement, and manual
Garage/workshop Is the unit intended for a garage or work area? Model-specific coverage guidance, mounting, output, and supply
Industrial Does the application call for an industrial product? Approved application and exact product documentation
Outdoor Is the heater rated for outdoor or semi-enclosed use? Exact location rating and installation requirements
Controls and accessories Does the heater need a separate thermostat or mounting accessory? Compatibility with the precise heater model

Choosing a Dimplex baseboard heater

Dimplex’s current US baseboard listing includes Element, LC Linear, and Eclipse families. The Element description specifies front discharge, LC Linear is described as slim and low-profile, and the Eclipse listing describes a built-in digital thermostat. Those features help narrow a search, but they do not establish that one family is best for every room. Compare the exact variant’s dimensions, wattage, voltage, controls, and installation requirements. Dimplex baseboard heaters

Across the models listed on that US product page, Dimplex shows lengths from 20 to 60 inches and outputs from 500 W to 2500 W. These are ranges across listed models, not specifications for every baseboard or a guarantee of room coverage.

  • HARDWIRE INSTALLATION - The 1500 watt, 120 volt heater arrives fully assembled and installs by hardwire through the easy-access top-mounted junction box on a dedicated circuit, so a licensed electrician is recommended; control it with an optional wall switch or timer (sold separately)

What to compare in a baseboard model

  • Length and placement: Confirm that the unit fits the intended wall and that the planned location meets the manual’s clearances.
  • Wattage and voltage: Match the exact model’s electrical specifications to the available supply and installation.
  • Thermostat: Determine whether the heater has an integrated thermostat or requires a compatible wall thermostat or kit.
  • Installation type: Check whether the model is fixed or portable and what mounting or accessory components it requires.
  • Location approval: Do not infer bathroom or outdoor suitability from the family name; verify the specific model’s approved use.

How much space can a Dimplex heater warm?

Dimplex says most baseboard or convector heaters can heat rooms up to 400 sq. ft. and gives up to 600 sq. ft. as an example for larger fan-forced EUH Series garage/workshop units. These are manufacturer examples, not guaranteed coverage figures for every room or model. Dimplex advises checking the heater’s wattage and manual. Dimplex Heat FAQ and documentation

Do not select a heater from floor area alone. The exact model’s output and installation instructions matter, as do the room and the electrical supply. The published coverage examples do not establish independently tested performance or promise a particular temperature in a particular building.

Can a Dimplex heater go in a bathroom or laundry room?

Some models may be used in bathroom applications, but that does not make every Dimplex heater suitable. Dimplex identifies certain LC Series or DPEG baseboards as examples and says installation must comply with electrical-code clearances and wiring requirements. Controls must not be reachable from a bath or shower. Confirm the exact model and installation in its documentation and with the applicable electrical code. Dimplex Heat FAQ and documentation

Can a Dimplex heater be used outdoors?

Only models designed for outdoor or semi-enclosed locations should be used there. Dimplex names DIR and DLW infrared heaters as examples; that does not make other Dimplex heaters outdoor-rated. Check the exact model’s location rating and installation instructions before choosing or mounting it. Dimplex Heat FAQ and documentation

Check thermostat and accessory compatibility

Some Dimplex heaters have integrated thermostats; others use compatible wall thermostats or accessories. The catalog also includes thermostat kits, mechanical wall thermostats, mounting brackets, floor stands, and trim panels. Confirm compatibility for the precise heater model instead of assuming an accessory works across the range. Dimplex Heat FAQ and documentation Dimplex product resources

A practical model-shortlisting checklist

  1. Define the use: Write down the room or work area and whether the heater must be fixed or portable.
  2. Choose a category: Narrow the options to baseboard, fan-forced wall, convection, garage/workshop, industrial, or outdoor according to the application.
  3. Verify the exact output: Check the model’s wattage and use its manual’s guidance; do not treat Dimplex’s example coverage figures as guarantees.
  4. Check physical fit: Compare dimensions and mounting location with the available space and required clearances.
  5. Confirm electrical fit: Match the product’s voltage and circuit requirements to the installation.
  6. Settle the controls: Identify any integrated thermostat or compatible wall thermostat and required accessories.
  7. Confirm approved location: Check the manual for indoor, bathroom, garage, outdoor, or other use restrictions before installation.
