For most air-fryer baskets and pans, the best first degreaser is ordinary dish soap in warm water, applied with a soft sponge. If baked-on grease remains, use a liquid degreaser only when your air-fryer manual permits it for that removable part, then rinse thoroughly. There is no proven one-size-fits-all cleaner: coatings and manufacturer instructions differ.
Start with dish soap, warm water, and a soft sponge
Unplug the air fryer and let it cool. Remove the basket, tray, or pan, then wash those parts with warm water, a few drops of dish soap, and a non-abrasive sponge. Frigidaire recommends warm water and dish soap for its basket and pan; Bosch advises hot water and a few drops of washing-up liquid for stubborn grease. These instructions are model-specific, so check your own manual before soaking or washing any component.
For residue that does not lift readily, soaking may help. Tefal says a soak of about 10 minutes can loosen residue for the cited Fry Delight FX100 product family. Do not assume that soak time or method applies to every air fryer.
Which degreaser should you choose?

No head-to-head comparison establishes which product removes grease best across air-fryer brands. Choose by checking the cleaner label, the exact part you intend to clean, the coating, and any rinse requirements. If dish soap works, there is no need to escalate.

When a liquid degreaser is appropriate
Use a liquid degreaser only if the appliance manufacturer allows it for the removable part you are cleaning, and follow both the cleaner’s package directions and the appliance manual. Tefal’s cited Fry Delight instructions allow a degreaser product if grease remains after suitable detergent. Philips also allows a more powerful liquid degreaser for remaining fat stains on specified removable parts. These are product-family instructions, not blanket approval for all baskets or cleaners.
Do not substitute oven cleaner, grill cleaner, or an industrial degreaser on a nonstick basket unless the manufacturer expressly approves it. The cited guidance does not establish those products as safe for air-fryer coatings.

How to clean without damaging the air fryer
- Unplug and cool it. Never clean a hot appliance or put liquid into a powered air fryer.
- Remove washable components. Separate the basket, pan, or tray as the manual directs.
- Wash with the least aggressive method first. Use warm water, dish soap, and a soft or non-abrasive sponge; soak only if the model’s instructions allow it.
- Escalate only when permitted. Apply an approved liquid degreaser to the removable part according to its label. Do not use metal tools or abrasive pads on nonstick surfaces; Frigidaire, Tefal, and Philips warn against methods that can damage the coating.
- Rinse and dry thoroughly. Dawn’s air-fryer cleaning instructions specifically call for thorough rinsing so cleaner residue does not remain.
- Wipe the appliance body separately. Keep liquids away from the electrical base, controls, and display. Bosch recommends a damp microfiber cloth for the display and advises against sprays or harsh chemicals there.
What not to do
- Do not immerse the electrical body or spray cleaner into the base.
- Do not scrub nonstick parts with metal utensils, abrasive pads, or abrasive cleaning products.
- Do not assume a cleaner safe for one brand or coating is safe for another.
- Do not heat the appliance with soap or cleaning solution inside; the cited cleaning instructions favor unplugging, cooling, washing, and rinsing.
