That is a useful starting point—not a new 2026 citrus ranking. CR’s newer 2026 juicer guide covers broader-use centrifugal and masticating machines, not a retest of compact lemon and lime squeezers.
What Consumer Reports evaluated—and when
CR’s citrus-specific article compared nine selected squeezers, with a $25 price cap, using lemons and limes. Its findings describe that 2022 evaluation, not current prices, availability, or later revisions to the products. The named Editor’s Choice was the Chef’n FreshForce.
CR’s July 15, 2026 guide has a different scope: it describes testing eight general-purpose juicers with 10 pounds of fruits and vegetables. It evaluates centrifugal and masticating machines for broader juicing needs; it does not establish a new winner among compact citrus squeezers.
That distinction matters because “citrus juicer” can refer to a handheld press, a tabletop reamer with a cup, or an electric appliance. CR’s citrus article focused on compact, non-electric tools for everyday citrus use.

Which citrus squeezer is right for you?
Start with the fruit you juice and how often you do it. A handheld press can suit occasional lemons or limes; repeated batches or larger fruit may call for a tabletop option with a larger well and a built-in cup. Compare not only output, but also effort, mess, how much pulp or seed reaches the juice, cleaning, and storage.
- For several lemons at a time: the Chef’n FreshForce is CR’s 2022 pick; CR found it easy to grip and convenient for squeezing multiple lemons.
- For a tabletop setup and captured juice: the OXO Good Grips 2-in-1 has two reamers and a built-in cup. CR reported little mess, good capture of seeds and much of the pulp, and the highest liquid yield among the squeezers it evaluated. Its larger footprint may be harder to store.
- For catching and pouring in one tool: the KitchenAid Citrus Juice Press Squeezer has a built-in cup and spout, according to CR.
- For oranges as well as smaller citrus: CR says the Imusa Orange and Citrus Squeezer’s larger well can accommodate oranges, though it may be oversized if you mainly juice lemons and limes.
- For an adaptable design: the Zulay 2-in-1 Lemon Lime Squeezer uses layered parts. CR found that arrangement could add handling steps and that some seeds entered the cup.
These are tradeoffs reported in CR’s 2022 comparison, not a claim that one tool is best for every kitchen.

How much juice will a citrus squeezer produce?
The amount depends on the fruit as well as the tool. CR notes that ripeness, shape, size, and refrigeration affect extraction, so a model comparison cannot guarantee the same yield from every lemon or lime. Its finding that the OXO produced the most liquid applies to the squeezers in that evaluation and its test conditions.
Freshness is another consideration, but it should not be confused with a controlled juicing result. Emily Ayala of Friend’s Ranches told CR that freshness matters more than whether citrus is organic, and that fruit stored for long periods can develop off-flavors. This is her advice, not a finding from a controlled study.

Are lemon and lime squeezers the same?
Many compact presses are intended for both lemons and limes, but fit and ease of use depend on the fruit’s size and the tool’s well. If you also want to juice oranges, check for a larger well or choose a tabletop reamer designed to accommodate bigger fruit. CR specifically noted that the Imusa’s larger well can work for oranges as well as lemons and limes.
Effort, mess, and cleanup
A high-yield tool is not automatically the easiest one to use. CR found the FreshForce easy to grip, but squeezing an unripe lemon could require more effort; it could also get messy, and its crevices need attention during hand-washing. The OXO was comparatively tidy in CR’s test, while the Zulay’s layered construction could mean extra steps and some seeds in the cup.

For any model, check whether its shape will be comfortable for your grip, whether juice is directed into a cup or onto the counter, and how easily pulp and seeds can be removed. If you make more than a small amount at once, a built-in cup or spout may reduce transfers; if drawer space is limited, the larger tabletop form may be inconvenient.

For occasional lemon or lime juice, a compact press offers a direct, non-electric way to squeeze fruit. A tabletop reamer can be more convenient for larger amounts or larger citrus, but it takes more room. If your goal is to juice a wide range of fruits and vegetables, a general-purpose juicer is a different category of appliance rather than an upgrade to a handheld citrus press.

When an electric juicer makes more sense
CR’s 2026 general-juicer guide evaluates centrifugal and masticating machines on juice production and quality, setup, noise, and cleanup. The mechanisms differ: CR’s background explainer describes centrifugal extractors as cutting produce with a fast-spinning disk, while auger-style machines slowly crush and mash it. Those appliances address broader produce-juicing tasks and have different tradeoffs from compact citrus hand tools.
For an electric machine, consult the general-juicer evaluation for its scope rather than treating it as a citrus-squeezer ranking. A broad juicer test does not, by itself, answer which small lemon or lime press is best.
Does citrus juice damage stainless steel?
CR senior test program leader Bernie Deitrick said citrus juices are mildly acidic but have little or no effect on stainless steel or coated aluminum. For any particular tool, follow its care instructions, especially for parts or finishes not covered by that statement.
