There is no universally safe camping stove windscreen. Choose one only when its maker’s compatibility guidance matches your stove and fuel-canister setup—and check the stove manual first. The five options below are a use-case shortlist, not a performance ranking: the available specifications do not establish which blocks wind best or saves the most fuel.
How to choose a stove windscreen safely
“Windscreen” is common in product names; “windshield” is another term for the same kind of wind barrier. Either way, the screen must suit the stove, burner height, and fuel-canister position. A screen that blocks gusts can also trap heat, so do not assume that a more enclosed design is safer or more effective.

- Read the stove manual. Follow its instructions even if a screen maker suggests a configuration. The MSR PocketRocket 2 instructions say: “Never use any kind of windscreen.”
- Match the screen to the stove and canister. Check whether it is intended for a top-mounted canister stove, a remote-canister stove, or an alcohol stove. Confirm any canister-size limits.
- Check size and stability. Compare the screen’s height and length with the burner and pot. Consider whether it stands freely, attaches to the stove, or needs pegs, and whether it packs small enough for your trip.
- Use only the maker’s specified configuration. Do not fully enclose a canister stove unless the relevant manufacturers explicitly permit the exact setup.
- Position it thoughtfully. Decathlon recommends checking wind direction; it also notes that pegs can help stabilize its MT500 where the ground allows.
Five options by stove type and use case
These products have published specifications and manufacturer guidance, but they have not been established as the five best-performing screens in comparative testing.
| Option | Published size and weight | Stove and fuel compatibility | Best fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Decathlon / FORCLAZ MT500 | 150 g; 51 × 22 cm open; 9 × 22 cm folded | Top-mounted stove attached to a 100 g or 230 g canister; not for a top-mounted stove connected to a 450 g canister | Trekking setups within its stated canister limits |
| Fire Maple FMW-501 | 58 g; 750 × 150 mm | Described by Fire Maple for low-profile remote-canister and alcohol stoves; verify the stove manual | Low-profile setups where a light, flexible sheet suits the stove |
| Fire Maple FMW-503 | 110 g; 140 mm high | Fire Maple gives configurations by stove type; for top-mounted canister stoves it describes a three-sided setup with a downwind opening | Users seeking an anchored, nine-panel screen and willing to follow the exact setup guidance |
| Fire Maple FMW-510 | 277 g; 240 mm high | Fire Maple warns not to use it with top-mounted canister stoves; its guidance identifies remote-canister use as an appropriate category | Compatible remote-canister systems needing a taller screen |
| Jetboil HalfGen windscreen | Not stated by manufacturer on the cited page | Attachable polycarbonate accessory specified for the HalfGen series | HalfGen owners seeking a model-specific accessory |
Decathlon / FORCLAZ MT500: trekking screen for specified canister sizes
The anodized-aluminum MT500 opens to 51 × 22 cm and folds to 9 × 22 cm, weighing 150 g. Decathlon specifies it for a top-mounted stove attached to a 100 g or 230 g canister and explicitly excludes a top-mounted stove connected to a 450 g canister. Check the product’s current instructions and your stove manual before using it. The UK listing showed £9.99 when accessed; price and availability can change.

- 【Removable Windscreen】- The stove windshield has 10 removable plates, which can be removed/folded to different size to be installed around different sizes of stove
- 【Durable Windshield】- The burner windshield is made of high-quality aluminum with a matt aluminum oxidation treatment on the surface, which has high heat resistance, wear resistance and durability
- 【Lightweight and Portable】- The packaging size of the stove windshield with the drawstring bag is 10.2"x 3.9"x 0.8" and the weight is only 10oz, there is no pressure to carry it around
- 【Scientific Design】- The bottom vent of the stove windshield allows airflow circulation, built in pegs secures wind shield into ground and ensures the stove windshield won't be blew down by the wind
Fire Maple FMW-501: low-profile remote-canister or alcohol stove candidate
Fire Maple lists this flexible aluminum sheet at 750 × 150 mm and 58 g. The maker describes it for low-profile remote-canister and alcohol stoves, not as a blanket choice for upright canister burners. Check both the FMW-501 guidance and your stove manual for the exact combination.
Fire Maple FMW-503: anchored nine-panel screen
The FMW-503 is listed at 110 g and 140 mm high. Fire Maple’s guidance varies by stove type; for top-mounted canister stoves, it describes arranging the panels on three sides and leaving an opening downwind. Treat that as model-specific manufacturer guidance, not universal permission to use a windscreen. Check the complete current instructions and the stove manual.
Rank #2

- 【Scientific Design】- The bottom vent of the stove windshield allows airflow circulation, built in pegs secures wind shield into ground and ensures the stove windshield won't be blew down by the wind.
Fire Maple FMW-510: taller screen for compatible systems
At 240 mm high and 277 g, the FMW-510 is the tallest and heaviest Fire Maple option in this shortlist. Fire Maple warns against using it with top-mounted canister stoves because heat can accumulate around the canister. Its guidance identifies remote-canister stoves as an appropriate category; confirm compatibility with the specific stove before use.

Why this is a compatibility shortlist, not a ranked test
Published product pages establish different materials, dimensions, weights, and compatibility cautions; they do not establish comparative wind resistance, boil-time gains, or fuel savings across these five products. A commercial roundup is not a documented head-to-head test. Choose by the stove maker’s instructions and the screen’s stated use case rather than treating size or enclosure as a performance score.

- Lightweight and Foldable: AwnPror camping stove windscreen is made of Aluminum Alloy material, with an overall density about one-third lighter than steel, greatly reducing its weight. Whole can be folded and put into a handbag, making the wind blocker more suitable for outdoor carrying. The overall weight is approximately 1.1KG. Please confirm the size of your stove before purchasing!!
- Block the Wind: Our wind shelter can greatly resist strong winds when cooking and heating, especially suitable for hiking, windy and rainy weather, beach picnics, mountain climbing and hiking.
- External Storage Design: The storage platform is linked to the outer side of the windshield frame, which makes that cooking does not come into contact with it and prevents you from tipping over the seasoning bottles and utensils stored on it, making grill wind guard more convenient to use.
- More Extensive Applicability: The horizontal dimension of camp stove wind cover is 60cm and the side width is 27cm with 10cm extended platform, which allows outdoor wind blocker to have a larger cooking area and even use two stoves together, can be applied to various furnaces.
- Carefully Designed: The upper positions on both sides of the stove windshield have been hollowed out, making it easy to move as a whole during use. The right angle portion of the edge position of each board has been polished to make it smooth. The overall thickness of the 4 plates windshield has been thickened, which makes the aluminum alloy material less prone to bending. Thick black coating on the exterior has excellent dirt resistance. Side of bottom has holes for easy passage of pipes.
