For coffee, Bodum’s CHAMBORD and BRAZIL are French presses, while its POUR OVER is a manual drip brewer. For tea, the ASSAM is a plunger-style tea press. The cited Bodum US listings do not establish a dedicated Bodum espresso maker, so this guide does not present a French press as an espresso machine.
Compare Bodum brewers by brewing style
| Model | Brewing style | Documented materials and features | Cited US capacity | Consider it if you want |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| CHAMBORD | French press | Borosilicate glass carafe, stainless steel frame, plastic handle, stainless steel plunger | 8 cups / 1.0 L / 34 oz | A metal-framed press |
| BRAZIL | French press | Borosilicate glass carafe, lightweight BPA-free plastic body, stainless steel plunger and filter | 8 cups / 1.0 L / 34 oz | A lighter, simpler press |
| POUR OVER | Manual pour over | Borosilicate glass carafe and permanent stainless steel filter | 12 cups / 1.5 L / 51 oz | To pour water over grounds yourself and use a reusable filter |
| ASSAM | Tea press | Glass pot, infuser or strainer, and plunger designed to stop infusion | 1.0 L / 34 oz | To brew loose-leaf or bagged tea in a press-style pot |
Capacities are from Bodum’s cited US listings. Bodum says its coffee and tea maker “cups” are about 4 oz, so an advertised cup is smaller than many household mugs. The ASSAM listing showed out-of-stock status in the retrieved listing; check its current availability before buying.
Which Bodum French press should you choose?
CHAMBORD: a glass press with a steel frame
The CHAMBORD combines a borosilicate glass carafe with a stainless steel frame and plunger. Its cited US size is 1.0 L (34 oz), labeled as 8 cups. Choose it if you prefer the metal-framed design; the listed capacity is the same as the BRAZIL’s.
BRAZIL: a lighter-bodied alternative
The BRAZIL pairs a borosilicate glass carafe with a lightweight BPA-free plastic body and stainless steel plunger/filter. Its cited US size is also 1.0 L (34 oz), or 8 Bodum cups. Its key documented distinction from CHAMBORD is the plastic body rather than a stainless steel frame.

- Wash in warm, soapy water before first use and dry thoroughly
- Not for stovetop use
- Turn lid to close spout
- Easy-to-clean glass carafe
How to brew in either press
- Use coarse-ground coffee. Bodum suggests one rounded teaspoon or scoop per 4 oz cup.
- Add water at about 92–96°C, leaving at least 2.5 cm (1 inch) of space at the top.
- Stir with a plastic or wooden spoon, then let the coffee brew for four minutes.
- Lower the plunger slowly and serve.
These are Bodum’s directions for CHAMBORD and BRAZIL, not a comparative performance test.
When the POUR OVER fits better
The POUR OVER is a manual coffee maker with a glass carafe and permanent stainless steel filter. The cited US listing includes a 1.5 L (51 oz), 12-cup size. It suits someone who wants to control the pouring process and avoid disposable paper filters.
Rank #2
- Iconic French press coffee maker that brings out the full flavor and aroma of your brew.
- Carafe is made of non-stain, heat-resistant borosilicate glass that won’t alter or impair the coffee’s natural flavor.
- The body, handle and domed lid are made from lightweight, BPA-free plastic.
- Stainless steel plunger and filter prevent ground beans escaping when the coffee is poured.
- More environmentally friendly than many coffee-brewing methods – no paper filters or plastic capsules required.
Bodum recommends filter-ground coffee, hot but not boiling water, and a slow circular pour to saturate the grounds. Its listed process takes about four minutes for the water to pass through. That is product guidance, not a guarantee of identical brew time in every setup.
What to know about the ASSAM tea press
The ASSAM is a 1.0 L (34 oz) glass tea press with an infuser or strainer. Its plunger is intended to stop infusion when pressed down, giving you a way to halt steeping rather than leave tea brewing in the pot. Bodum’s cited US listing displayed the model as out of stock; availability can change.

Does Bodum make an espresso maker?
The cited Bodum US listings do not establish a dedicated espresso machine or maker, so there is no Bodum espresso model to recommend here. A French press makes immersion-brewed coffee; it is not an espresso machine. Check Bodum’s US listings for any current product information before treating another model as an espresso option.

How to choose and maintain your brewer
- Start with the brew: choose a French press for immersion coffee, POUR OVER for manual drip brewing, or ASSAM for tea.
- Check usable capacity: compare the listed volume in liters or ounces, not just “cups,” because Bodum’s cup is about 4 oz.
- Compare materials and filtration: CHAMBORD has a stainless steel frame, BRAZIL a lightweight plastic body, and POUR OVER a permanent stainless steel filter.
- Consider cleanup and parts: CHAMBORD’s product page lists replacement glass and filter components for specified sizes. Confirm the exact model and size before ordering a replacement.
Bodum’s product pages describe materials and directions; they do not provide independent comparative testing establishing that one brewer makes better coffee or tea than another. Bodum says Peter Bodum founded the company in Copenhagen in 1944, Jørgen Bodum introduced its first French press, the BISTRO, in 1974, and the ASSAM teapot was developed for the British Tea Council in 1991. Bodum’s company history attributes those milestones to the company.
