Models such as the HoMedics TotalClean T95 and Levoit LV-H128 use a designated oil tray or aroma pad alongside their filtration systems. Choose a purifier for its filtration performance and room fit; treat its scent feature as an optional way to add fragrance, not as proof of cleaner air or a health benefit.
How to choose an air purifier with a scent feature
Compare the purifier’s cleaning specifications separately from how it adds fragrance. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) identifies clean air delivery rate (CADR) as a useful measure when comparing portable air cleaners, while noting that performance depends on the pollutant and cleaning technology. The EPA does not endorse specific brands or models. Read its Guide to Air Cleaners in the Home for context.
- Cleaning: Check the filtration type and the manufacturer’s stated CADR or room coverage. Treat manufacturer figures as claims unless independent testing confirms them.
- Scent delivery: Look for an explicitly documented tray or aroma pad. These mechanisms vary by model.
- Oil use and upkeep: Consult the exact model’s manual for where oil goes, how much to use, and which pads to replace.
- Room fit, noise, and cost: Compare current specifications for your intended room. The available product information does not establish a standardized, independent comparison across the examples below.
Examples with documented scent features
HoMedics TotalClean T95
HoMedics describes the T95 as having a True HEPA filter, a built-in prefilter, an activated-carbon odor filter, and an essential-oil tray supplied with three pads. Its product page lists manufacturer filtration and room-coverage claims; those claims are not independent test results. The page showed the model as sold out when checked, so confirm current stock before considering it.
Levoit LV-H128
Levoit describes the LV-H128 as a desktop purifier with a designated aroma pad for essential oil. Its product page explains the scent feature. Treat any filtration figures there as manufacturer claims unless independently corroborated.

Replacement aroma pads
Levoit’s 12-pack aroma-pad listing identifies the Core Mini-P and LV-H128 as compatible models. Match the accessory to your exact purifier and check availability. The HoMedics T95 manual also references replacement essential-oil pads; verify compatibility with the specific model before buying.
Use essential oils only as the manual directs
Do not assume that a purifier’s scent feature can take oil anywhere inside the unit. The HoMedics T95 instruction manual says to put oil on the supplied pad in the oil tray, not directly into the tray, and specifies 5–7 drops. It warns: “Putting oil anywhere but the oil tray will damage the air purifier.” That quantity and procedure apply to the T95 instructions cited here; follow the directions for your own model instead.

Fragrance is not an air-cleaning or health claim
An aroma pad or oil tray adds scent; it does not show that a purifier removes more pollutants. The product information reviewed documents features and operation, not a health benefit from fragrance. Do not rely on essential oils to treat symptoms or improve air quality.
Avoid ozone generators as a way to fragrance or clean occupied-room air. The EPA warns that ozone irritates the lungs and says that, at concentrations that do not exceed public-health standards, it has little potential to remove indoor air contaminants. Ozone can also react with indoor chemicals to create harmful by-products. See the EPA’s Ozone Generators that are Sold as Air Cleaners.

Is there a best purifier for fragrance strength?
The available manufacturer information does not establish which model produces the strongest or longest-lasting scent, so it does not support a fragrance-performance winner. If scent delivery is your priority, confirm that a model explicitly supports an aroma pad or oil tray and follow its manual; compare its filtration separately using model-specific specifications.
