Air purifier heater-and-fan combos can filter air, provide supplemental heat and circulate air from one appliance. Their “cooling” is fan airflow—not air conditioning—so they do not lower room temperature like an AC. For a renovation or a home that needs seasonal heating and airflow, the practical choice depends on the specific model’s filtration claims, stated coverage, maintenance and availability.
What these combos can—and cannot—do
A combo appliance brings together an air-cleaning function, a space heater and a fan. In Dyson’s product language, “cooling” refers to fan mode; the HP07 is not an air-conditioning unit. That distinction matters when choosing equipment for a room: a fan can move air and make occupants feel cooler, but it does not provide refrigeration or control the room temperature like AC. Dyson’s HP07 product page and its HP07 manual describe the separate heating and fan functions.
For indoor air, filtration is one measure rather than a complete solution. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency says, “The most effective ways to improve your indoor air are to reduce or remove the sources of pollutants and to ventilate with clean outdoor air.” Portable air cleaners can supplement those steps, but they cannot remove every pollutant. Choose by verified fit, not a universal “best” label
No independent, like-for-like category test is established here, so there is not enough evidence to name an objectively best model. Start with the function you need most, then check that model’s own specifications and current listing.
- For a currently documented filter-replacement recommendation: the HP07 page gives an approximate 12-month interval or replacement when alerted, while noting the product’s out-of-stock status on October 8, 2026. Check current inventory before planning a purchase.
- For a published coverage figure: the HP1 technical sheet provides 27 m² under Dyson’s POLAR method. Treat this as a manufacturer figure tied to that method, not a promise for every room layout or a direct comparison with figures measured differently.

Check the room and the way you will use it
Room area alone does not settle whether an air cleaner will suit a space: the stated coverage depends on a model’s testing method, and real rooms differ in layout and conditions. For heating, consider whether you need supplemental warmth in the occupied space; for warmer weather, remember that fan airflow is not mechanical cooling. What to check before buying
- Filter and pollutant claim: identify the exact filter type and the pollutant addressed. A particle-capture percentage is not a health-outcome claim and does not establish removal of every indoor contaminant.
- Coverage method: check both the model-specific area figure and how the manufacturer derived it. Do not compare unlike methods as if they were equivalent.
- Heating controls: confirm the available temperature settings and what happens when the set temperature is reached. The HP07 manual says heating pauses once the target temperature is reached.
- Fan expectations: treat “cooling” as airflow unless the product explicitly includes refrigeration or air conditioning.
- Ongoing upkeep: factor in replacement filters and the model’s replacement interval. Confirm the compatible part for the exact model rather than relying on a generic HEPA/carbon filter description.
- Ownership details: compare noise, dimensions, power requirements, warranty and live stock using the specification for the exact model. Do not transfer the HP1’s technical figures or warranty to other products.
Filter care and replacement
Filter life varies with model and use. Dyson’s HP1 technical specification gives one year at 12 hours of operation per day or six months at 24 hours per day. For HP07, Dyson recommends replacement about every 12 months or when the machine signals that it is needed. These are manufacturer guidance, not a guarantee that every filter lasts exactly that long in every home.
The HP07 manual explains that its combination filter is not washable, that the machine displays remaining filter life, and that replacement requires resetting the filter-life indicator. Follow the instructions for the exact model and use only a compatible replacement part. Washing a filter that the manufacturer identifies as non-washable can damage it or impair its function.
