What does 700 watts mean, and is it enough?
On these product listings, 700 watts describes microwave output power, not the appliance’s electrical input consumption. Whirlpool explains that a higher wattage indicates higher heating power and lists 700–1,200 watts as the range for its countertop comparisons (Whirlpool’s countertop microwave comparison). That helps explain the specification, but it does not establish a precise cooking-time conversion or prove that one model heats more evenly.
A 700-watt model may be a reasonable fit if your routine is mainly reheating, defrosting and straightforward cooking. If you regularly cook larger portions or rely on quick cooking, compare higher-output models too; wattage alone cannot predict your results for every food or container.

How to choose a compact microwave that fits
Measure the counter and clearance
Compare the exact model’s external height, width and depth with the space available. Allow for the door to open and follow the ventilation and clearance requirements in that model’s manual. Note the cord location and whether nearby walls, cabinets or appliances could obstruct access. A listed exterior measurement does not tell you the required operating clearance.
Check the dishes you actually use
Capacity and turntable diameter answer different questions. The LG listing gives a 9 5/8-inch turntable, while Midea lists 0.7 cu. ft. capacity; neither figure alone proves that your largest plate will rotate freely. Compare the cavity dimensions and turntable size in the manual with your plates, bowls and containers.

Compare controls and defrost options
Look for the controls you will use: power levels, express-start buttons, presets and defrost settings. The Midea listing specifies 10 power levels, six programs, and time-and-weight defrost; it also says the model lacks sensor cook and sensor reheat. LG lists auto defrost and one-touch settings. These are model-specific examples, not standard features across 700-watt microwaves.
Consider cleaning and safety details
LG lists an EasyClean interior, while Midea lists a two-step child safety lock. Those features should not be assumed on other models. Check the precise listing and manual for the interior finish, removable turntable details and any control-lock instructions.
