The distinction affects cabinetry, installation and electrical planning. Manufacturer pages document useful features such as six cooking zones and bridgeable areas, but the available specifications do not establish a quantified efficiency saving or a head-to-head performance winner.
Choose the appliance form before comparing features
“Cooktop” is often used loosely in searches, but 48-inch induction products do not all install the same way. A standalone built-in cooktop is a surface set into a counter; a rangetop is a surface appliance installed in a counter opening; a range is a freestanding cooking appliance that includes an oven or ovens. Confirm the exact product category and installation instructions before planning cabinetry.
- Complete ranges: Fisher & Paykel RIV3-486 and Bertazzoni MAS486INMXV are 48-inch induction ranges with ovens. Fisher & Paykel RIV3-486; Bertazzoni MAS486INMXV.
- Rangetop: Bertazzoni also lists a 48-inch induction rangetop in Canada. Check the regional model number and local availability; do not assume it is interchangeable with a range or built-in cooktop. Bertazzoni 48 6 Induction Zones Rangetop.
The manufacturer sources cited here confirm these products and published specifications, but do not establish current retailer inventory, prices, or Amazon listings.
Compare the documented 48-inch induction models
The published specifications below help narrow a shortlist. They are manufacturer specifications, not independent tests of cooking speed, usable oven capacity, or overall performance.

Fisher & Paykel’s planning guide specifies a 48-inch cavity width, while the product page gives the appliance’s actual width. The guide also states that it is not installation guidance. Review exact-model installation documentation for opening dimensions, clearances, ventilation and connection details rather than treating a planning drawing as a construction specification.
Assess zone layout for the way you cook
Zone count alone does not tell you how well a surface will suit your cookware. Fisher & Paykel lists six zones, including two SmartZones; Bertazzoni describes six zones with bridgeable right-side zones. A bridge feature can let compatible cookware span a larger cooking area, but the listed descriptions do not establish that the two systems work identically.

Before choosing, compare the zone arrangement against the pans and cooking tasks you use most. Check the exact manual for compatible cookware, zone controls and how linked zones operate. The cited specifications do not support ranking either model for cooking performance.
Consider oven capacity only when buying a range
If you need a surface-only appliance, oven specifications should not drive the choice. For a range, both named examples include two ovens: Fisher & Paykel lists 4.8 cu ft and 2.1 cu ft in its planning guide, while Bertazzoni lists 4.7 cu ft and 2.4 cu ft. These are published capacities, not independently tested comparisons of usable space. Compare rack configuration, dimensions and functions in each model’s documentation before deciding whether the split suits your cooking.

Plan electrical service and installation early
Electrical requirements vary by model, so do not transfer one range’s circuit specification to another appliance. Wolf’s FAQ requires two separate dedicated 50 A circuits for the IR48751 and recommends 240 VAC. Fisher & Paykel’s product page and planning guide present different voltage descriptions for the RIV3-486; use the current installation instructions for the exact model. Bertazzoni lists a 50 A dedicated circuit and different wattages for 120/240 V and 120/208 V supply.
Before ordering, have a qualified electrician assess the existing service, circuit capacity, grounding and connection location against the appliance’s current installation documentation and local code. For construction or renovation work, coordinate appliance dimensions and electrical routing with the cabinet and counter plan. Fisher & Paykel explicitly says its planning guide should not be used as installation guidance; the same care applies to planning specifications from any manufacturer.

- LARGE COOKING AREA - Features an expanded magnetic coil design that optimizes the winding structure to enhance the transfer of electromagnetic energy directly to the cookware, significantly improving heating efficiency and ensuring more even heat distribution across the bottom of the cookware.
- NSF CERTIFIED & COMMERCIAL GRADE - UL commercial standard 197, completely ETL & NSF approved. It meets industry durability standards, passing a drop test with an impact of 1.5 ft lbs. Designed for large-volume usage, it is ideal for commercial and professional settings such as restaurants, industrial kitchens, and other catering services.
- EASY TO CONTROL & CLEAN - The control buttons with solid tactile response make operation intuitive and precise. With simple and clear display, the Key-Press-Control Panel provides clear visibility and easy control, even with gloves or wet hands. With no open flame or heating element, food does not burn onto the glass cooktop, making it easy to clean greasy dirt.
What “increased efficiency” can—and cannot—mean
Fisher & Paykel says that because most heat generated by the cooktop transfers into cookware, induction offers an energy-efficient cooking option. That is the manufacturer’s general statement, not an independently verified comparison for these models. The cited sources provide no quantified savings percentage or market-wide efficiency statistic, so treat efficiency as a potential benefit of induction rather than a guaranteed reduction in household energy use.

A practical selection checklist
- Identify whether the project needs a built-in cooktop, rangetop or full range with ovens.
- Verify the exact model’s width, depth, height, opening dimensions and required clearances in current installation documentation.
- Compare zone placement and bridge or SmartZone functions with your cookware and cooking habits.
- If choosing a range, review both oven capacities and configurations as manufacturer specifications rather than tested usable-capacity comparisons.
- Confirm voltage, amperage, circuit count, plug or hardwiring details, grounding and local-code requirements with an electrician.
- Check regional model availability and service support directly with the manufacturer or an authorized local retailer.
