A 45 cm slimline dishwasher can free up kitchen width, but it is not necessarily a countertop or portable appliance: slimline describes the machine’s width. The right choice depends on whether a freestanding or integrated model fits your kitchen, how much it can hold, and what its Eco-cycle, noise and cleaning-performance evidence shows. The examples below are models to compare—not proven winners.
What does “slimline dishwasher” mean?
A slimline dishwasher is approximately 45 cm wide, compared with about 60 cm for a full-size model. Which? author Humairaa Habib describes the distinction this way: “A slimline dishwasher measures around 45cm wide, while a full-size dishwasher measures around 60cm wide.” Which?’s 2026 guide says slimline models typically hold 80–100 items, versus 120–150 for full-size machines.
Those are category-level figures, not a guarantee of how many of your dishes will fit. Place settings and the shape of the racks matter: check that your usual plates, pans, glasses and cutlery fit the layout.
Models to compare: examples, not ranked winners
Manufacturer specifications can help build a shortlist, but they do not establish which machine cleans best. Treat these as examples to investigate in your country and check the exact model code and current availability before buying.

Bosch UK lists the SPS2IKW01G (Series 2, white), SPS4HMI14G (Series 4, brushed steel anti-fingerprint) and SPS4HMW14G (Series 4, white) in its freestanding 45 cm range. The range page identifies these as model options but does not provide enough comparable information to judge their cleaning results, consumption or price.
Integrated: Smeg 45 cm range
Smeg’s 45 cm built-in dishwasher category lists four examples: ST4512IN (9 place settings, energy class F), ST4522IN (9, E), ST4523IN (10, E) and ST4533IN (10, D). These are category-page specifications accessed in 2026; check each product’s own sheet, country-specific availability and current status before treating a model as an option.
Integrated: Siemens iQ300 SR93EX25MG
Siemens’ 2026–27 UK brochure lists this 45 cm fully integrated model with 10 place settings, energy class B, 51 kWh per 100 Eco cycles, 8.7 litres per Eco cycle, a 3:55 Eco programme and 44 dB noise. The brochure states that its table data was valid as of April 2026 and may change. See the Siemens built-in dishwasher information and confirm the exact product’s current availability and installation dimensions.

Beko DFS05020: a dated specification example
Beko UK’s product page lists the DFS05020 as a discontinued model. Its published figures—10 place settings, energy class E, 76 kWh per 100 Eco cycles, 11.9 litres per Eco cycle, 49 dB and dimensions of 850 × 448 × 600 mm—show the kind of detail to compare on a product fiche, not a current buying recommendation. Beko’s DFS05020 page identifies its discontinued status.
How to check whether a 45 cm dishwasher will fit
Do not rely on the category width alone. Get the installation drawing for the exact model and compare it with the space and service connections in your kitchen before ordering.
- Measure the available space: Check width, height and depth, as well as door swing and clearance. Allow for the plinth and any surrounding cabinetry.
- Choose the installation type: A freestanding machine has its own exterior finish; an integrated model is designed to sit behind a furniture front. Check whether the appliance requires a cabinet door or panel and whether your kitchen can accommodate it.
- Check plumbing and power: Confirm the water-supply connection, drain route and electrical connection against the model’s installation instructions.
- Verify the precise model code: Dimensions and features can vary by model and country, including between similar-looking model names or suffixes.
How much can a slimline dishwasher hold?
Which?’s 2026 guide puts typical slimline capacity at 80–100 items, compared with 120–150 for a full-size machine. Product specifications may instead give capacity in place settings, so compare like with like where possible—and consider basket design as well as the headline number.

Before choosing, think through a normal load: large dinner plates, pans, tall glasses and the cutlery arrangement. Adjustable racks, a cutlery drawer or basket, and fold-down supports can make the stated capacity more useful, but only if the layout suits the items you wash. A smaller width may work well for a compact kitchen or household; it can mean more frequent cycles if your usual loads exceed the available space.
Compare Eco-cycle running figures and noise
When product fiche values are available, compare energy use per 100 Eco cycles and water per Eco cycle. These figures give a more useful basis for comparing models than an unqualified marketing description such as “energy efficient.” The Siemens SR93EX25MG brochure, for example, lists 51 kWh per 100 Eco cycles and 8.7 litres per Eco cycle; those are manufacturer specifications, not independent test results.

Programme length can also affect your routine: the Siemens brochure lists a 3:55 Eco programme for this model.

Energy class is another point of comparison, but do not use it as a substitute for the actual Eco-cycle figures when those are available. The Smeg category examples, for instance, span classes F to D and 9 to 10 place settings; verify the individual product sheet rather than assuming every detail from the category listing applies to the model you are considering.

A feature list or a good-looking energy figure cannot prove that a dishwasher cleans well. Which? says its slimline recommendations are lab tested and highlights cleaning, main-programme energy efficiency and ease of use as relevant criteria. However, the model names and scores on its accessible 2026 guide are behind member access, so that page alone does not establish an accessible, verifiable winner for this shortlist.
Before relying on a “best” claim, look for current independent test results that identify the model and explain the tested criteria. Manufacturer specifications are useful for fit and stated consumption; they are not comparative cleaning-performance findings.

Check availability and ownership support before buying
Confirm that the exact model is still sold in your market, then check local price and stock, warranty terms, installation support and access to replacement parts. The discontinued Beko DFS05020 illustrates why a specification page should not be mistaken for evidence of current availability. Retail stock and model suffixes can differ by region.
For a practical shortlist, first rule out models that do not fit the cavity or installation type. Then compare capacity and basket layout, Eco-cycle energy and water use, noise and any current independent cleaning results. Choose only among models whose dimensions, product status and specifications you have verified for your kitchen and country.
