There is no single best 3-inch ball valve for every installation. “3 inch” is a nominal size, not a complete specification: the right choice depends on piping connection, valve construction, port, materials, pressure and temperature, shutoff needs, and the fluid and service conditions. Bray International’s published product families illustrate the main options, but their ratings are configuration-specific and do not establish suitability for a particular plant.
Compare the main 3-inch valve options
The table summarizes Bray International product-family information published on undated manufacturer pages accessed in 2026. It is a starting point for shortlisting, not a market ranking or independent reliability comparison. Confirm that the exact size, trim, connection, and rating are available together in the current submittal.
| Family | Connection and construction | Published size and rating details | What to verify |
|---|---|---|---|
| Series 70/90 | Two-piece, standard-port, NPT threaded ends; RPTFE seats. Bray lists 316 stainless steel bodies for S70 and WCB carbon steel bodies for S90. | Family range is 1/4 to 3 inches. Bray lists maximum allowable operating pressure of 1000 psi WOG for sizes 2 1/4 to 3 inches. Published temperature range is -50°F to 450°F for S70 and -20°F to 450°F for S90. | Check the exact body series, fluid compatibility, pressure-temperature envelope, and threaded-piping requirements. The listed pressure is not a universal rating for other series. |
| Flow-Tek Triad | Three-piece, full-port family. Bray lists threaded, socket-weld, butt-weld, and flanged connection options, with multiple body and seat choices. | Published size range is NPS 1/4 to 4. Bray lists ASME B16.34 Class 600, 2200 psi CWP, a -50°F to 550°F temperature range, and API 598 testing. | Confirm the selected 3-inch connection, body and seat combination, and the rating applicable to that configuration. |
| Series 5000/6000 | Full-port family with stainless-steel or carbon-steel series options; Bray lists threaded or socket-weld ends. | Published size range is 1/4 to 4 inches. Bray lists 800 psi CWP for sizes 2 1/2 to 4 inches and a -50°F to 450°F temperature range; the page identifies ASME B16.34 and API 598. | Do not transfer Triad ratings or features to this separate series. Verify exact material, connection, and service conditions. |
| Flow-Tek F15/F30, metal-seated | Flanged, metal-seated family. | Bray lists NPS 1/2 to 6 and ASME Class 150/300 variants, with stated high-temperature capability up to 750°F and ANSI/FCI 70-2 Class V to VI shutoff. | The manufacturer notes that some options are not available in all sizes. Verify availability and shutoff class for the exact 3-inch configuration. |
| Flow-Tek F15/F30, resilient-seated | Full-port flanged family with resilient seats. | Bray describes ASME B16.34 Class 150 and 300 valves in a broader NPS 1/2 to 12 range. | Features vary by size. Compare the exact seat and configuration with the metal-seated family rather than relying on the shared F15/F30 name. |
Choose the connection to match the piping
NPT threaded ends
A 3-inch NPT ball valve is a specific connection choice, not simply any valve described as 3-inch. Bray lists NPT ends on Series 70/90 through 3 inches. Before specifying it, confirm the mating pipe and fitting arrangement, the intended installation method, and whether the selected valve’s materials and rating fit the process.
Socket-weld or butt-weld ends
Welded connections are available in some Bray families, including Triad; Series 5000/6000 lists threaded and socket-weld connections. Check the exact end type against the piping design, installation procedure, and access needed for maintenance. A family’s overall size range does not guarantee that every end connection or trim is offered at 3 inches.
#1 Best Overall
- Size:3 inch
- Body & Ball Type:Full Port, Low Operation Torque,316 Stainless Steel
- Serviceable Valve - Can be taken apart via threads, Female NPT Ports
- The valve is fitted with PTFE seals for maximizing corrosion resistance and lifespan of the ball valve
- This multi-purpose manual lever ball valve has excellent corrosion resistance and is fit for many applications
Flanged ends
A flanged valve may suit piping designed for flanged equipment and can simplify removal compared with a welded-in valve, but the flange class and mating components must match the system. Bray lists flanged F15/F30 options in both metal-seated and resilient-seated versions. Their size ranges and available features differ, so select by exact seat, class, size, and required shutoff rather than by family name alone.
Decide how the valve will be serviced
Two-piece construction
Series 70/90 is a two-piece design. Its published page specifies standard port and RPTFE seats. Evaluate whether that construction and port meet the intended isolation duty and flow requirements, and whether the planned installation allows the maintenance approach required by the facility.

Three-piece construction
Triad and Series 5000/6000 are three-piece families. That construction can be relevant when the maintenance plan calls for servicing or removing internal components without replacing the entire valve body, but confirm the manufacturer’s procedure and the clearance required for the installed configuration. Do not infer that two three-piece families share the same pressure rating, materials, or end options.
Match port, materials, and duty to the process
Port and flow
Bray describes Triad and Series 5000/6000 as full port, while Series 70/90 is standard port. Port designation affects the available flow passage; it does not alone determine flow capacity or suitability. Use the process flow requirement and valve sizing information to check the choice. If the job requires regulation rather than simple isolation, a ball valve selected only by nominal size may be the wrong device.

Body, ball, stem, and seat
Confirm compatibility for every wetted component, not just the body. For Series 70/90, Bray lists S70 bodies as 316 stainless steel and S90 bodies as WCB carbon steel, with an ASTM A351 CF8M ball and ASTM A479 Type 316 stem. The family page also lists RPTFE seats. These specifications are product-family details; verify the materials in the exact offered configuration against the process fluid, temperature, and operating conditions.
Isolation versus control
A standard ball valve is commonly selected for shutoff or isolation; required leakage performance must be stated and checked for the selected seat and configuration. Bray’s metal-seated F15/F30 page describes ANSI/FCI 70-2 Class V to VI shutoff, but the manufacturer notes that some options are not available in all sizes. For flow regulation, Bray describes V-Control as a characterized V-port rotary control valve with multiple port and trim choices and sizes through NPS 12. It requires control-valve sizing and service review rather than substitution based on nominal size.
Rank #4
- APPLICATION - True union ball valve can be used in irrigation, swimming pool, commercial plumbing, aquariums, reef tank, civil construction and other industries.
- FULL PORT - Full flow fluid handling characteristics for long-lasting, superior performance in the field. Fits to pipe measures 3 inch socket end connection.
- CONSTRUCTION - SOCKET (GLUE ON ONLY), 2 EPDM O-rings and 2 PTFE seats for long-lasting, superior performance.
- CHEMMICAL RESISTANCE - The PVC material has excellent alkali and corrosion resistance. PTFE seats are reversible.
- EASY TO OPERATE - 1/4 turn operation for long-lasting.
Review pressure, temperature, and standards as a set
Do not compare pressure numbers in isolation. Bray’s pages use terms including WOG and CWP and identify design or testing standards for certain families. Those labels and figures apply to the stated product family and size conditions, not automatically to another series or every configuration. Have the supplier confirm the applicable pressure-temperature rating for the selected valve and process conditions, including any governing piping code or engineering requirements.
- Series 70/90: Bray lists MSS SP-110 as the design standard and MSS-SP 72 as the testing standard.
- Triad: Bray lists ASME B16.34 Class 600, 2200 psi CWP, and API 598 testing as published specifications; verify the exact configuration and rating before use.
- Series 5000/6000: Bray identifies ASME B16.34 and API 598; its listed 800 psi CWP applies to sizes 2 1/2 to 4 inches.
- F15/F30 metal-seated and resilient-seated pages describe different seat designs and specifications. Confirm the applicable class and features for the particular size and option.
A named standard or manufacturer rating is a selection input, not an independent determination that the valve is suitable for a specific installation. Where a project requires fire-safe, sanitary, high-purity, or other industry-specific qualification, check that requirement separately; the cited product summaries do not establish every such qualification.

High-purity service
Bray describes S7500/S7700 Micro Pure as a high-purity three-piece family for pharmaceutical, biotechnology, semiconductor, and food and beverage industries. Its listed family size range reaches 4 inches, but the page separately limits tube-bore port sizing. Do not assume that a 3-inch variant has a tube-bore port; verify the exact bore and configuration for the application.
Severe-service vents and drains
Bray describes Series M4 for power-industry vents and drains, with NPS 3 to 4 butt-weld variants and stated temperature capability up to 1100°F. Pressure class and other capabilities depend on size and configuration. This is a specialized severe-service family, not a general-purpose alternative to a standard 3-inch isolation valve.
Quick Recap
Use this checklist before specifying or ordering
