Check the fixture label and the old bulb before ordering.
What “two-pin” means—and why the base matters
Two-pin describes a general lamp shape, not a complete specification. LEDVANCE lists G4 and GY6.35 as separate low-voltage halogen base types in its HALOSTAR STAR product range. Do not treat them as interchangeable based on appearance alone.
Read the base designation printed on the old bulb or fixture, and compare the pin spacing and fitting. If the markings are missing or unclear, consult the fixture manual or manufacturer rather than guessing.
Check compatibility before comparing bulbs
Confirm each of these details before buying. Electrical and physical fit come before color or style.

- Base: Match the exact designation, such as G4 or GY6.35.
- Voltage: Match the bulb’s voltage to the fixture. The documented Feit G4 example below is designed for 12-volt fixtures; that does not make it suitable for a fixture with a different voltage.
- Wattage: The replacement must not exceed the fixture’s stated maximum wattage. A bulb’s wattage is not a substitute for checking the fixture marking.
- Shape and dimensions: Check capsule type and measurements against the space available, including any cover or housing.
- Light output and color: Compare lumens for brightness and color temperature for the appearance of the light.
- Dimming and enclosure: Confirm the bulb’s dimmer compatibility and whether its documentation allows use in an enclosed fixture, if relevant.
- Rated life: Compare manufacturer specifications for the exact models; do not assume a category-wide lifespan.
A documented G4 option: Feit Electric BPQ20T3/2/HDRP
Feit Electric lists the BPQ20T3/2/HDRP as a two-pack of 20W, 12V T3 halogen bulbs with a G4 base. Feit describes it as a replacement for traditional two-pin G4 bulbs in 12-volt fixtures. Treat it as a candidate only if the base, voltage, wattage limit and physical clearance all match your fixture.

G4 and GY6.35 examples are different formats
Manufacturer catalogs show why it is risky to shop by “two-pin” alone. LEDVANCE lists 5W, 10W and 20W HALOSTAR ST models with G4 bases at 12V, and a separate 35W GY6.35 model at 12V. Feit also lists a 50W GY6.35 T4 two-pack. These examples illustrate different base and wattage combinations; none is an automatic replacement for another format.
Westinghouse lists both G4 and GY6.35 low-voltage JC lamps and names puck lights, under-cabinet lights, desk lamps, display lighting, accent lighting and landscape lighting as possible applications. Those examples do not establish compatibility with a particular fixture. Check the Westinghouse product information and your fixture documentation.

How to choose and install a replacement safely
- Turn off power and let the lamp cool. Halogen bulbs can become hot during use. Follow the fixture manufacturer’s replacement instructions.
- Record the old bulb’s markings. Note its base, voltage, wattage and capsule type. Check the fixture label for voltage and maximum wattage.
- Measure clearance if needed. Compare the replacement’s dimensions with the existing lamp and the fixture housing.
- Compare the remaining features. Once compatibility is established, choose the desired brightness, color temperature, dimming support and enclosure rating.
- Verify the exact product before ordering. Confirm the model number and pack size on the product page and seller listing; stock and specifications can change.
When the available information is not enough
If the old bulb has no readable markings, the base is uncertain, or the fixture’s voltage and wattage limit cannot be found, do not select a replacement solely by pin appearance. Locate the fixture documentation or ask its manufacturer or a qualified electrician to identify the required lamp. The manufacturer examples here establish product specifications, not independent comparative test results or current retailer availability.
