Belkin ended support for most older and non-Thread Wemo products on January 31, 2026. The Wemo app and cloud service are no longer available for affected devices, ending remote access and cloud-dependent Alexa and Google Assistant control. However, this was not a universal hardware shutdown: Wemo products that were already configured in Apple Home before the deadline may still work locally, and Belkin says four Thread-based models remain supported through HomeKit.
The short version
| If your Wemo device… | What it means now |
|---|---|
| Was configured with Apple Home/HomeKit before January 31, 2026 | It may still work locally in Apple’s Home app. |
| Is one of Belkin’s listed Thread models | It was not affected in the same way and continues to operate through HomeKit. |
| Relied on the Wemo app, remote access, Alexa, or Google Assistant | Those cloud-dependent features ended for affected products. |
| Was still under warranty on or after January 31, 2026 | You may be eligible to request a refund, subject to Belkin’s review. |
| Was never configured for HomeKit and is not Thread-based | Replacement is likely necessary if you need smart control. |

What Belkin shut down
The January 31 deadline covered more than customer-service assistance. For affected products, Belkin ended:
- Technical support
- Wemo app functionality and updates
- The Wemo cloud service
- Remote control from outside the home
- Cloud-dependent integrations with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant
- Normal Wemo setup and reconfiguration through the discontinued service
This does not necessarily mean the electrical hardware stopped working. A plug, switch, or button may still control its load manually, but that should not be confused with restored smart functionality.

Check the exact model, not just the appearance
Wemo sold multiple generations of visually similar products. Find the model number printed on the device, label, or original packaging and compare it with Belkin’s complete affected-products table.
Belkin’s affected list includes legacy products such as Wemo Link, Wemo Humidifier, Wemo Crock-Pot, Wemo heaters, Wemo air purifier, Wemo coffee maker, several Wemo Switch models, Wemo Insight, Wemo Mini Smart Plug, and other older accessories. Photograph the model and serial number before discarding a device or submitting a warranty claim.
Thread products Belkin says are not affected in the same way
Belkin identifies these four Thread-based products as continuing to operate through HomeKit:
- Wemo Smart Light Switch 3-Way — WLS0503
- Wemo Stage Smart Scene Controller — WSC010
- Wemo Smart Plug with Thread — WSP100
- Wemo Smart Video Doorbell Camera — WDC010
Thread support does not mean every feature uses the same setup or works identically across platforms. Confirm the exact model and its Apple Home requirements.
When HomeKit can preserve a Wemo device
Some Wemo products can continue operating locally through Apple Home if they were configured there before January 31, 2026. Belkin’s HomeKit-compatible list includes:
Rank #2
- 2 MODES IN 1 GATEWAY: This Smart home hub support Bluetooth mesh (SIG) + Zigbee3.0 multi-protocol communication. Only one gateway is needed to connect devices of different protocols to the 2.4Ghz network.
- APP REMOTE CONTROL: Smart Bluetooth Zigbee hub works with smart life/Tuya App, Support Adding devices, device reset, third-party control and group control. You can manage and remotely control the device through the Smart Life App. You can manage and remotely control your lights, fingerbot and other smart devices via the app, even when you're not home.
- VOICE CONTROL: The smart hub Support voice control, Simply give a voice command to Alexa or Google home to control devices(such as turn on/off the smart plug, turn on/off the Finger Bot).
- SMART HOME AUTOMATION: Sub-devices of the gateway act as trigger conditions for Interacting with devices such as ZigBee, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, for device linkage. Featured as one powerful network bridge for whole house linkage in a real sense for all smart home devices.
- SUPPORT 128 DEVICES: Support up to 128 Tuya smart home devices, such as ZigBee Motion Sensor, Leak Detector, BLE Finger Bot, Zigbee Door Sensor, BLE Thermometer, ZigBee Window Gate Sensor, etc. NOTE: Supports Tuya/SmartLife devices only.
- Wemo Smart Light Switch 3-Way — WLS0403 and WLS0503
- Wemo Wi-Fi Smart Light Switch with Dimmer — WDS060
- Wemo Smart Light Switch — WLS040
- Wemo HomeKit Bridge — F7C064
- Wemo Dimmer Light Switch — F7C059
- Wemo Mini Plugin Switch — F7C063

- Wemo Mini Smart Plug — WSP080
- Wemo Stage Smart Scene Controller — WSC010
- Wemo Smart Plug with Thread — WSP100
- Wemo Smart Video Doorbell Camera — WDC010
Compatibility alone is not enough. A HomeKit-capable device that was never added to Apple Home before the shutdown may no longer be recoverable through Belkin’s setup path. Belkin also says new HomeKit setup or reconfiguration is no longer possible after the deadline.
If the device still appears in Apple Home
- Use Apple’s Home app for control rather than the Wemo app.
- Test manual control, schedules, automations, and important scenes.
- Confirm that your home hub, network, and—where relevant—Thread infrastructure remain available.
- Do not remove or factory-reset the device casually. Re-pairing may no longer be possible.
HomeKit preservation does not bring back the Wemo app, remote Wemo access, Alexa, or Google Assistant for affected products.

- Test the physical control. Press the device’s button or operate the wall switch. This helps distinguish a powered device from a failed smart connection, but manual operation does not restore app control.
- Check Apple Home. Look for the device and test a local command, automation, and schedule.
- Record the model and serial number. Keep photographs and the original purchase information.
- Check warranty eligibility. Belkin says products still under warranty on or after January 31, 2026 may qualify for a refund. The refund form requires the model, serial number, purchase date, purchase price, and proof of purchase. Belkin reviews requests individually and does not promise approval or a universal payout.
- Replace the device if smart control matters. Recreate schedules and routines manually on the new platform; there is no verified universal Wemo migration tool in the available guidance.
- Dispose of it responsibly. Recycle electronic equipment according to your local rules rather than putting smart-home hardware in ordinary waste.
Special considerations for hardwired switches
Replacing a plug-in device is usually straightforward, but a wall switch requires more care. Before choosing a replacement, verify whether the circuit is single-pole, 3-way, or multi-way; whether the electrical box has a neutral wire; whether the load is compatible with a dimmer; and whether the switch’s electrical ratings are suitable.
Turn off the circuit breaker and verify that the circuit is dead before any electrical work. If the wiring or device requirements are unclear, use a qualified electrician. Do not select a replacement solely because it resembles the Wemo switch being removed.
Can Home Assistant save an affected Wemo?
Possibly for some models, but it is not an official or guaranteed recovery route. Community projects and local-network integrations have explored controlling certain Wemo devices without Belkin’s cloud. These approaches can require technical setup, the device remaining on the same network, model-specific support, and ongoing maintenance. A reset may also remove the configuration needed by an unofficial integration.

Matter for mixed-platform homes
Matter-certified plugs and switches are designed to work with compatible ecosystems including Apple Home, Alexa, Google Home, and Samsung SmartThings. TP-Link’s Tapo Matter range includes plugs, energy-monitoring plugs, outlets, switches, dimmers, and 3-way products.
Matter is not a guarantee that every feature is local, identical across platforms, or permanently independent of vendor accounts. Confirm the exact product’s Matter support, controller requirements, Wi-Fi or Thread connection, energy-monitoring features, and compatibility with your chosen platform.
Tapo and Kasa replacements
TP-Link says its Tapo app can manage Tapo and Kasa devices, and its product range covers many of the categories Wemo owners need. Its official Home Assistant integration supports many Kasa and Tapo device categories, although compatibility and local-control behavior vary by model and firmware.

TP-Link also publishes smart-home end-of-life information. No manufacturer should be treated as a permanent guarantee against future product retirement.
For local-first users
Prefer products with local control when the internet is unavailable, a documented local API or standard protocol, Matter over Thread, Zigbee, or Z-Wave support, and operation through an independent controller such as Home Assistant. Also check whether the device requires a vendor account after setup and whether automations can survive a vendor service shutdown.
The lesson for future smart-home purchases
- Identify whether control depends on a vendor cloud.
- Prefer documented standards and local-control options.
- Check the vendor’s end-of-life and support policy before buying.
- Confirm that important routines can be rebuilt outside the manufacturer’s app.
- Keep model numbers, receipts, and installation details.
- For hardwired products, verify wiring and load compatibility before purchase.
The Wemo shutdown is a reminder that a device can remain electrically functional while losing the software service that made it “smart.” Choosing open standards and an independent automation layer can reduce—not eliminate—that risk.
