The shutdown has already happened, so affected owners can no longer rely on the Wemo app, remote access, Alexa, Google Home, or other cloud-dependent features. Some devices may still work manually, while certain products that were configured with Apple HomeKit before the deadline may continue working locally.
Before resetting or deleting anything, identify your exact model, test its remaining functions, and check Belkin’s refund process.

- Cloud-dependent schedules and automations
- New setup or reconfiguration through the Wemo app or HomeKit
- Normal firmware, software, and technical support
This does not necessarily mean that every device is electrically dead. A plug or switch may still respond to its physical button, and a connected lamp may still turn on when power is supplied. A device that was already configured in Apple HomeKit may retain local control through Apple’s Home app.
What may still work
Physical controls
Press the device’s physical button or operate the connected appliance normally. This can preserve basic on/off operation, but it does not prove that remote access, schedules, energy monitoring, or voice control still work.
Previously configured Apple HomeKit devices
Some Wemo products may continue operating locally in Apple Home if they were configured with HomeKit before January 31, 2026. “HomeKit-compatible” does not mean that a device can still be added today. Belkin says new setup or reconfiguration is unavailable after the shutdown.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsIf the device still appears in Apple Home, do not remove it, factory-reset it, or delete it merely to troubleshoot. Doing so could remove its remaining local configuration and leave you unable to add it again.
Listed Thread products
Belkin identifies these four Thread-based models as unaffected in its notice:
- Wemo Smart Light Switch 3-Way — WLS0503
- Wemo Stage Smart Scene Controller — WSC010
- Wemo Smart Plug with Thread — WSP100
- Wemo Smart Video Doorbell Camera — WDC010
Thread is a networking protocol, not a guarantee that every Wemo product labeled “smart” has the same capabilities. Check the exact model number and the platform you use.

What to do now
1. Test what remains
- Try the physical power button or wall switch.
- Test the connected lamp, appliance, or other load.
- Open Apple Home if the device was previously paired there.
- Test any automation that does not depend on Wemo’s cloud, Alexa, or Google Home.
Do not rely on an affected Wemo for a heater, baby monitor, coffee maker, security-related device, or another safety-sensitive load if its smart functions have failed.
2. Preserve a working HomeKit setup
If the device still works in Apple Home, leave it paired. Avoid removing it from the Home app, factory-resetting it, or reinstalling the Wemo app in the hope that service will return. Belkin says post-shutdown setup and reconfiguration are unavailable.
3. Check refund eligibility
Belkin says a Wemo product that was still under warranty on or after January 31, 2026 may be eligible for a refund. Proof of purchase is required, and eligibility is not automatic. Use the refund form linked from Belkin’s current Wemo end-of-support support page to check whether submissions are still accepted and what documentation is required.

- 【Matter: All-Round Compatibility】With Matter, users are no longer tied to specific platforms and works with all certified smart home platforms, such as Apple Home, Amazon Alexa, Google Home and Samsung SmartThings. Once configured, communication and control between Matter devices can be achieved directly on the local network.
- 【Matter: Future-Proofing】Matter devices will be compatible with future updates and advancements in technology, ensuring that your smart home system remains up-to-date and compatible with new devices and features.
- 【Compact & Flame Retardant Design】Avoid blocking additional outlets with its compact design, and plug in your WiFi smart plug with confidence thanks to its UL certified flame retardant design and 2-year limited warranty.
- 【App & Voice Control】Control your WiFi smart plug from anywhere, anytime via the free Tapo App or just give voice commands to Siri, Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant or Samsung SmartThings. Your favorite smart assistant enables you to have a truly hands-free experience.
Should you keep or replace the device?
Keeping it temporarily may be reasonable when it still works through Apple HomeKit or manually, the load is not safety-sensitive, and you can accept uncertain future compatibility.
Replacement is the safer choice when the device was never paired with HomeKit, Alexa or Google Home is essential, physical controls are inadequate, or the Wemo controls a heater, baby monitor, purifier, appliance, outdoor equipment, or anything where failure could cause harm or damage.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Choosing a replacement
Prioritize Matter support, local or LAN control, physical fallback controls, and compatibility with your ecosystem. Check the exact model—not just the brand—for:
- Apple Home, Alexa, Google Home, or SmartThings compatibility
- Neutral-wire requirements for hardwired switches
- Three-way wiring support
- Electrical ratings for heaters, motors, and appliances
- Energy monitoring
- Outdoor weather protection
- Manufacturer support and end-of-life policies
For a simple plug or switch replacement, TP-Link maintains an official list of Matter-certified products. Its Kasa KP125M Matter plug supports Matter, energy monitoring, and LAN control; TP-Link’s launch material listed historical official MSRPs of $39.99 for a two-pack and $69.99 for a four-pack. Its Tapo Matter mini plug launch MSRPs were $19.99 for one, $29.99 for two, and $49.99 for three. These are launch-price references, not guaranteed current prices.
For outdoor use, TP-Link’s TP25 is listed as Matter-certified, IP65-rated, and equipped with two independently controlled outlets. Confirm its ratings against your equipment before installation.
Advanced users may consider Home Assistant Green, a plug-and-play hub with Home Assistant preinstalled. It can provide a more local, multi-brand approach, but it is a platform rather than a one-for-one Wemo fix. Some owners may be able to experiment with community Home Assistant integrations, but this is unofficial, device-specific, and not guaranteed to recover every Wemo model.

- Remote Control: To enable HomeKit remote control, you need a HomePod, an Apple TV 4K, Apple TV HD, or an iPad. Set any of these Apple devices in your house as a HomeKit bridge and connect it to your home 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network. Keep in mind that once your HomeKit bridge is set up, it has to be kept online. If it is powered off or disconnected from the Wi-Fi, it will fail to respond when you intend to control the device remotely.
- Voice Control: You can control your devices hands free, just give voice commands to turn on/off the connected devices. Compatible with Apple HomeKit, Apple Watch, Siri, Carplay, Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant.
- Compact Size: Smart plug occupies only one socket, the device allows you to stack two mini smart plugs in the same outlet, which is convenient and practical.
- Schedule: You can schedule connected devices to turn on and off automatically by smart plugs. Save energy when lights are not needed or left on by accident. Sunrise and sunset setting are supported.
- Quality: The meross Smart outlet is made of PC flame retardant material, and has been approved for safety and quality assurance. Certified by ETL and FCC, it supports home appliance up to 15A.
Matter can reduce dependence on one vendor’s cloud, but it does not guarantee indefinite manufacturer support. A product with local control and working physical operation remains the more resilient choice.

Safety and disposal
Do not continue depending on a failed smart device for a load that could cause fire, flooding, security problems, or other damage. Operate the equipment manually or replace it with supported hardware.
Belkin recommends taking devices that no longer work and are not eligible for continued use or a refund to an authorized e-waste recycling center. Check local rules before placing electronics in household recycling.
