The Belkin Wemo shutdown has already happened. Belkin discontinued Wemo cloud services and app support for selected products on January 31, 2026. That removed Wemo-app control, remote access, Alexa and Google Assistant integration for affected devices—but it did not necessarily make every plug electrically dead.
Some Wemo products can still work through Apple Home/HomeKit if they were compatible and already configured before the deadline. Before replacing yours, identify its model number, test Apple Home without resetting the device, and check whether you qualify for a Belkin warranty refund.

The short answer
- Already configured in Apple Home: Test it and keep it if reliable. Do not factory-reset it.
- Not HomeKit-compatible or never added to Apple Home: Replacement is generally the practical option.
- Dependent on Alexa or Google Assistant: The old Wemo integrations no longer work through Belkin’s cloud.
- Still under warranty: Submit a refund request before recycling or replacing it.
The original warning that Wemo plugs would stop working “this week” referred to the week ending January 31, 2026. It is now a post-shutdown compatibility issue, not an upcoming deadline.
What stopped working?
According to Belkin’s official support notice, affected products lost:
#1 Best Overall
- Voice control: Kasa smart plugs that work with Alexa and Google Home Assistant. Enjoy the hands free convenience of controlling any home electronic appliances with your voice via Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant

- Wemo app access and updates
- Wemo cloud services
- Remote access through the Wemo service
- Amazon Alexa integration
- Google Assistant integration
- Official new setup or reconfiguration through the Wemo app or HomeKit
- Normal technical-support coverage for affected Wi-Fi Wemo products
This does not mean every device stopped supplying power or responding to its physical button. The key distinction is between the hardware’s basic operation and the discontinued cloud-based smart features.
Check the exact model number first
Do not rely only on the retail name. Wemo sold multiple products under similar names, and model numbers vary by hardware generation and region. Look for the SKU on the rear label, underside or side of the plug, on its original packaging, or in your purchase record.
Wemo products that may continue through existing Apple Home setups
| Product | Model | Important condition |
|---|---|---|
| Wemo Mini Smart Plug | WSP080 | May continue if configured in Apple Home before January 31, 2026 |
| Wemo Mini Plugin Switch | F7C063 | May continue if configured in Apple Home before the deadline |
| Wemo Outdoor Plug | WSP090 | May continue if configured in Apple Home before the deadline |
| Wemo Smart Plug with Thread | WSP100 | Uses Apple Home/Thread rather than the old Wemo cloud model |
Use Belkin’s HomeKit compatibility list to verify your exact product. Regional variants can differ in electrical rating, plug format and setup method.
Older products without the HomeKit rescue path
Belkin identifies products including these as lacking Apple HomeKit support:
- Wemo Insight Smart Plug — F7C029
- Wemo Switch Smart Plug — F7C027
- Wemo Smart Light Switch — F7C030
For these and other non-compatible products, the shutdown generally means that the official smart setup and cloud-control path is gone.

Instead, head straight to certified smart home platforms like Apple Home, Alexa, Google Home, SmartThings, or AiDot to control all your Matter devices.【TIP】Matter-certified hub or controller (HomePod, Echo Dot, Nest, SmartThings Hub) is required for Apple Home/Alexa/Google Home/SmartThings platforms. What to do if your Wemo is already in Apple Home
- Open the Apple Home app and confirm that the Wemo accessory is still listed.
- While connected to your home network, test on/off control.
- Test any important scene or automation.
- If away-from-home control matters, test it with your Apple home hub available.
- Leave the accessory in place if it works reliably.
Compatible Wemo products that were configured in Apple Home before January 31 may continue locally without Wemo cloud services. Do not remove the accessory or factory-reset a functioning device just to troubleshoot it. Resetting can erase its working configuration, after which official reconfiguration may no longer be possible.
Local control is not the same as remote control
An existing HomeKit setup may continue working locally, but controlling it from outside the home requires an always-connected Apple home hub. Belkin lists an Apple TV, HomePod or compatible iPad as examples. See Belkin’s HomeKit guidance for the applicable setup requirements.
If your household relies on Alexa or Google Home, Apple Home is not a like-for-like replacement for the old native Wemo integrations. Belkin says those integrations depended on cloud connectivity and stopped functioning for affected products.
What if the plug is not in Apple Home?
Check the model against Belkin’s compatibility list. If it is not HomeKit-compatible, replacement is usually the sensible route. If it is compatible but was never configured in Apple Home, do not assume it can now be newly added: Belkin says new setup and reconfiguration through the official path are no longer available after the shutdown.
If you have no Apple device or do not want to use Apple Home, a HomeKit-only recovery path is not practical. A replacement compatible with your preferred platform will be more dependable.

- 【Matter: All-Round Compatibility】With Matter, users are no longer tied to specific platforms and works with all certified smart home platforms, such as Apple Home, Amazon Alexa, Google Home and Samsung SmartThings. You can control all your smart home devices from a single app, reducing the need for multiple apps for different devices.
- 【Matter: Smooth LAN Control】All Matter-certified devices in your local area network (LAN) will work smoothly even when your home internet goes offline. Matter allows effective communication directly between devices, without the need for a specific 'forwarding' device. For example, a Matter smart switch or sensor can turn on/off a Matter bulb directly without being connected to a cloud service, or other specific action. Once configured, communication and control between Matter devices can be achieved directly on the local network.
- 【Matter: Future-Proofing】Matter devices will be compatible with future updates and advancements in technology, ensuring that your smart home system remains up-to-date and compatible with new devices and features.

- 【App & Voice Control】Control your WiFi smart plug from anywhere, anytime via the free Tapo App or just give voice commands to Siri, Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant or Samsung SmartThings. Your favorite smart assistant enables you to have a truly hands-free experience.
Thread changes the answer—but not for every Wemo
The Wemo Smart Plug with Thread (WSP100) is different from traditional Wi-Fi Wemo products. It is designed to operate through Apple Home and Thread rather than depending on the discontinued Wemo cloud service in the same way.
It still requires compatible Apple Home infrastructure, including the appropriate home hub or Thread-capable setup. Do not assume that every HomeKit-compatible Wemo product is a Thread device. Belkin’s WSP100 support page, user guide and firmware guidance cover the Thread model separately.
Check for a refund before buying a replacement
Belkin says products still under warranty on or after January 31, 2026 may qualify for a refund, subject to Belkin’s review and proof of purchase. Submit a request through the official Wemo end-of-support refund form.
Eligibility is not automatic. It depends on the product, warranty status and documentation you provide. Keep the device, model number and proof of purchase available until Belkin has reviewed the claim.

Troubleshooting after the shutdown
The plug works manually but not in the app
This is consistent with the cloud shutdown. If the model is compatible and was previously in Apple Home, test it there. The Wemo app is no longer a dependable management path for affected products.

- Remote Control: To enable HomeKit remote control, you need a HomePod, an Apple TV 4K, Apple TV HD, or an iPad. Set any of these Apple devices in your house as a HomeKit bridge and connect it to your home 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network. Keep in mind that once your HomeKit bridge is set up, it has to be kept online. If it is powered off or disconnected from the Wi-Fi, it will fail to respond when you intend to control the device remotely.
- Voice Control: You can control your devices hands free, just give voice commands to turn on/off the connected devices. Compatible with Apple HomeKit, Apple Watch, Siri, Carplay, Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant.
- Compact Size: Smart plug occupies only one socket, the device allows you to stack two mini smart plugs in the same outlet, which is convenient and practical.
- Schedule: You can schedule connected devices to turn on and off automatically by smart plugs. Save energy when lights are not needed or left on by accident. Sunrise and sunset setting are supported.
- Quality: The meross Smart outlet is made of PC flame retardant material, and has been approved for safety and quality assurance. Certified by ETL and FCC, it supports home appliance up to 15A.
Apple Home shows “No Response”
- Confirm your iPhone or iPad is connected to the home network.
- Power-cycle the plug once.
- Restart the Apple home hub.
- Check whether other HomeKit accessories respond.
- Avoid removing the Wemo accessory unless replacement is already planned.
These checks cannot restore an unavailable setup service. If the device was never configured in Apple Home before the deadline, do not assume that troubleshooting will make it newly addable.
You already factory-reset the plug
A reset may have erased its previous Apple Home configuration. Try Apple Home recovery and consult Belkin’s shutdown guidance before spending time on repeated resets. If the official setup path is unavailable, replacement may be necessary.
When replacement is the better choice
Replace the device when:
- Its model is not HomeKit-compatible.
- It was never configured in Apple Home.
- You depend on Alexa or Google Assistant.
- You need dependable remote access and the existing setup is unreliable.
- The device lost connection and cannot be reconfigured.
- It controls an appliance that must run on a reliable schedule.
Potential replacement categories include Apple Home-compatible plugs, Matter-over-Wi-Fi plugs, Matter-over-Thread plugs and platform-specific Alexa or Google Home models. Matter devices can offer broader ecosystem compatibility, but buyers should still check hub requirements and whether features such as energy monitoring are supported.

Recycle devices that are no longer useful
If a Wemo device is not eligible for continued HomeKit use or a refund, Belkin recommends an authorized e-waste recycling center rather than household disposal. Where possible, remove the old device from smart-home accounts and routines before recycling.
The Bottom Line
January 31, 2026 was the Wemo cloud-support deadline, and it has passed. Identify the SKU before acting: keep a compatible device that already works in Apple Home, avoid resetting it, submit a Belkin warranty-refund request if eligible, and replace or recycle non-HomeKit products that depend on the discontinued Wemo cloud.
