Belkin’s Wemo cloud shutdown already happened on January 31, 2026. For affected products, the Wemo app, remote access, Alexa integration, and Google Assistant integration no longer work. But not every Wemo device became useless: some products that were configured in Apple Home before the cutoff may continue working locally, and Thread-based models are the strongest exception.

Belkin describes this as the end of Wemo cloud services and app support for select Wemo products—not a remote shutdown of every piece of Wemo hardware. The exact model number and its previous setup matter. Belkin’s shutdown notice is the controlling source for the affected-product list and current terms.

What stopped working?
For affected cloud-dependent products, owners should expect the following:
- The Wemo mobile app no longer controls the device or supports new setup.
- Remote access while away from home has stopped.
- Alexa and Google Assistant integrations have stopped.
- Wemo-account rules and automations should not be assumed to continue.
- A reset device may be impossible to configure again through the official Wemo process.
Restarting a plug or reinstalling the app cannot restore a discontinued cloud backend. A restart can fix an ordinary network problem, but it cannot bring back Wemo’s servers.

Find the model number before doing anything else
“Wemo Mini” or “Wemo Light Switch” is not precise enough. Different generations have different hardware and platform support.
- For a plug-in product, unplug it safely before inspecting it.
- Look for the model or SKU on the rear label, underside, side of the plug, or original packaging.
- If the app still displays the device, record its model from the device-information screen.
- Photograph the label and save the model number before troubleshooting.
- Compare it with Belkin’s official compatibility and shutdown information.
Do not factory-reset a working Wemo device just because the app cannot connect. Resetting can remove a configuration that cannot be recreated after the shutdown.
Which Wemo devices may still work?
Belkin lists these products as potentially continuing to function through Apple Home if they were configured before January 31, 2026:

Belkin identifies WLS0503, WSC010, WSP100, and WDC010 as Thread-based products. The WSP100 does not use the Wemo app; it is designed for Apple Home using Bluetooth and Thread and requires a compatible Apple device and Apple Home hub or Thread-compatible hub. “May still work” is important. An accessory that remains in an existing Apple Home setup is different from one that has been reset, removed, bought used, or moved to a new Wi-Fi network. Belkin says new setup or reconfiguration through Wemo or HomeKit is unavailable after the cutoff. Do not assume a previously working HomeKit model can be added again.
If your Wemo still appears in Apple Home
- Continue using the Apple Home app for local control.
- Do not remove the accessory from your home unless you are prepared to lose the ability to add it back.
- Avoid factory resets.
- Check that important Apple Home automations still run.
- Before changing routers, Wi-Fi credentials, hubs, or Home configurations, confirm that the device can be re-added.
Local Apple Home operation is not the same as guaranteed remote access. Away-from-home control can require a functioning Apple Home setup and a compatible Apple Home hub.

If your Wemo has stopped working
- Identify the model. Do not rely on the product’s appearance.
- Check Belkin’s affected-product information. Older products may lack native HomeKit support because of hardware limitations.
- Check your purchase records. Belkin says eligible in-warranty products may qualify for a refund with proof of purchase.
- Use Belkin’s Wemo end-of-support form. Confirm current eligibility, regional terms, and deadlines rather than assuming reimbursement is guaranteed.
- Replace unsupported hardware. Do not spend money on a reseller’s Wemo Bridge as a guaranteed rescue path; post-shutdown setup is not promised.
- Recycle failed electronics through an authorized e-waste program.
Older products such as the Wemo Smart Light Switch F7C030, Wemo Insight Smart Plug F7C029, and Wemo Switch Smart Plug F7C027 are examples of hardware-limited models identified in Belkin’s compatibility documentation. Other affected categories include Wemo Link, humidifiers, Crock-Pot products, heaters, air purifiers, coffee makers, baby monitors, and LED lighting.

A plug or switch may still work manually even after losing smart functions. For a camera or connected appliance, however, losing the app or cloud service can remove much of the product’s intended function.
What about Alexa, Google, and automations?
Moving a Wemo device from Alexa or Google Home to Apple Home is not necessarily possible now. Belkin says new HomeKit setup or reconfiguration is unavailable after the shutdown.

Automations can fail at several different layers:
- The Wemo device may no longer respond.
- Alexa or Google routines may lose the device.
- Wemo-account rules may stop running.
- Apple Home automations may continue for compatible devices that remain configured locally.
- Remote Apple Home operation may depend on an Apple Home hub.
Test important routines manually instead of assuming that an automation survived because the device still turns on at the wall.

For broad platform compatibility, consider a model that explicitly supports Matter, such as an appropriate TP-Link Tapo or Kasa Matter product. Check the exact model for Wi-Fi versus Thread, energy monitoring, outdoor rating, maximum load, and account requirements.

Apple Home
Apple-focused buyers may prefer products from Eve, particularly models using Thread and Apple Home. Confirm support for your exact platform and whether an Apple home hub or Thread Border Router is required.
Switches and dimmers
For hardwired replacements, Leviton Decora Smart products are one option. Verify neutral-wire requirements, load type, single-pole versus three-way compatibility, box depth, voltage, and local electrical-code requirements. If you are not qualified to replace a hardwired switch, use a licensed electrician.
Local-first systems
Technically capable households may consider Home Assistant Green with compatible devices. This can reduce dependence on one manufacturer’s cloud, but it requires more setup and maintenance than a typical consumer plug.

Matter is not a guarantee that every feature works without a vendor account, and Thread devices still require compatible controllers, hubs, or border routers. Read the exact product requirements before buying.

Do this today
- Photograph every Wemo model label.
- Record which devices remain in Apple Home.

- Replace unsupported hardware with a device that offers local control, a physical fallback, and clearly documented platform requirements.
