Bayswater Waves’ grand reopening took place in February 2024, marking the completion of the final stage of an eight-year upgrade program—not an upcoming event. The City of Bayswater described the works in two ways: a $7.14 million final redevelopment stage in a June 2023 update, and an $11.6 million major refurbishment in its 2023/24 annual report. The reports do not reconcile those figures, so they should be understood in their stated contexts.
When did Bayswater Waves reopen?
The City of Bayswater’s 2023/24 Annual Report says Bayswater Waves held its grand reopening in February 2024. The event followed completion of the major refurbishment, which the report identifies as the final stage of an eight-year upgrade program. The reopening is therefore a past event, not a celebration still to come.
What did the upgrade cost?
The City’s figures describe different project contexts and dates. Its June 2023 update called the then-in-progress final redevelopment stage a $7.14 million upgrade. The 2023/24 Annual Report described the completed major refurbishment associated with the relaunch as an $11.6 million refurbishment. The reports reviewed do not explain how the two amounts relate; neither should be presented as a correction of the other.
What changed at the aquatic centre?
Aquatic spaces and circulation
The City’s June 2023 project update described retile work for the wave pool and lazy river, plus a reconfigured foyer and entrance. The annual report later confirmed wave-pool retiling and foyer remodelling among the completed refurbishment works. The project update also included wider indoor and outdoor ramps and additional railings around the wave pool.

Entry and accessibility
The planned entrance changes in the June 2023 update included a built-in shop, extra-wide turnstiles and a wheelchair-friendly front desk. These measures were described as part of the works underway or included in the final-stage project.
Accessibility improvements at the centre began before the final stage. In a January 2022 report on the first stage, the City said it had refurbished the 25-metre indoor pool and installed a dedicated accessible change facility with a modified toilet and shower, an adult change table and specialised hydraulic equipment. That stage also added a mobile bariatric pool hoist rated for 180 kg and an accessible path linking the fitness-centre emergency exit with Broadway and the main carpark.

Fitness, gym and building systems
The June 2023 update described an expanded group-fitness area and refurbished changing rooms as part of the final-stage scope. It said the planned capacity increase for group fitness was from about 30 to 44 patrons. The annual report confirmed the group-fitness expansion and also reported renewed gym equipment.
The project update additionally listed LED lighting, expanded solar photovoltaic capacity, and electrical and information-technology upgrades. It described 30 additional solar panels as planned. Those are project figures and stated scope, not independent measurements of energy savings or user outcomes.
