The REEDesigned automatic teapot is a reported option for brewing loose-leaf tea without electricity: it uses a timer-controlled drain to separate the brewed tea from the leaves. It does not boil water, so you still need hot water from a separate source.
How the non-electric teapot works
New Atlas’s 2025 report describes a lid, mesh filter, timer unit, tea chamber and 600 ml collection chamber. Add loose leaves and previously boiled water to the tea chamber. The liquid passes through the filter and a restricted opening into the collection chamber, while the mesh keeps the leaves back. As the lower chamber fills, a float switch rises; when the timer ends, the leaves remain above the brewed tea. The filter is removable for clearing out the leaves. These are product details reported by New Atlas, not independently tested performance findings.
The mechanism controls brewing and drainage; it does not heat water. The reported no-electricity claim applies to the brewing mechanism, not to preparing the hot water. New Atlas describes it as functioning without electricity apart from the energy used to boil the water. A kettle or other way to heat water is still required, and the report does not say one is included. New Atlas’s product report
What “automatic teapot” can mean
The label covers different mechanisms. Check how a device ends steeping before assuming it is electricity-free or fully automatic.

| REEDesigned automatic teapot | Timer-controlled drainage moves tea into a collection chamber while mesh retains the leaves. | Closest match to a non-electric, timed loose-leaf brewer. It needs hot water prepared separately. New Atlas reports a 600 ml collection chamber. |
| iF Design “Automatic Teapot” | A powered tea maker immerses and lifts a basket according to selected brewing solutions and temperature. | It automates steeping, but it is not an electricity-free brewer. The iF Design entry lists a 2020 launch. iF Design entry |
| Aurora Sands automatic gongfu set | After tea and hot water are added, a gentle twist on the base drains the pot into a fairness pitcher through a built-in stainless filter. | A gravity-assisted serving method, not the timer-controlled steeping described for REEDesigned. The product page lists a 160 ml brewer and a 210 ml pitcher. MOTOLIV / KILN & CO. product page |
| Morales clockwork teapot patent | A spring-and-clockwork mechanism raises a suspended tea container above the liquid after a set time. | A historical design, not evidence of current retail availability. US Patent 1211614A |
What to check before buying
- How steeping ends: Look for timed drainage if you want the REEDesigned-style mechanism. A basket that lifts may be powered; a pot that drains when twisted requires a manual action.
- Water heating: Confirm whether the product brews only or also heats water. The REEDesigned report describes a brewer that needs hot water from elsewhere.
- Capacity and cleanup: New Atlas reports a 600 ml collection chamber for the REEDesigned teapot and says its mesh filter can be removed. These details do not establish how easy the device is to clean in everyday use.
- Availability: New Atlas reported a run limited to 500 units in 2025. That report does not establish present stock, a current price or an Amazon listing, so verify availability with the seller before planning a purchase.
If you search marketplaces, “automatic teapot for loose leaf tea” is a useful phrase, but a search result alone does not confirm that the reported model is in stock. A loose-leaf infuser or filter is a simpler manual alternative, not an automatic brewer. Electric kettles with tea infusers belong to a different category because they use electricity; Chefman’s electric kettle guide describes that adjacent option.

The cited sources describe mechanisms and product specifications, but they do not provide a consistent side-by-side test of brewing performance or measured taste results. A 1917 patent for a clockwork teapot says that leaving tea in water too long can produce a bitter, distasteful decoction; that is the patent’s historical wording, not a modern comparative test.
