BGR reported the lowest price—$102.42—for the third-generation August Smart Lock bundled with an August Connect Wi‑Fi bridge. The promotion was scheduled to end on Cyber Monday, November 28, 2022, and has expired.

| August Wi‑Fi Smart Lock + Smart Keypad | Fourth-generation lock with built-in Wi‑Fi | Yes | $147.32 | $270 | About 45% | Historical, expired |
These figures come from BGR’s Amazon-focused article published November 25, 2022: August Lock Black Friday 2022 Deals. The article used Amazon shopping links; it does not establish that August sold the locks directly at those prices.

What the $102.42 offer actually included
The cheapest deal was not the fourth-generation Wi‑Fi model. It was the third-generation August Smart Lock packaged with August Connect. The lock communicates locally over Bluetooth, while Connect supplies the internet connection needed for remote app control and related online features.
That makes it a two-device system: the lock mounts at the door, and Connect needs a powered outlet and a suitable position to communicate with both the lock and the home network. The bridge was included in the historical bundle rather than being an optional extra. A separate bridge can mean more configuration and another potential point of failure than a lock with Wi‑Fi built in. August still lists Smart Lock + Connect and the Connect accessory in its catalog: August shop and August support catalog.

Which 2022 deal offered the best fit?
“Best value” depends on what the buyer needed. BGR favored the keypad bundle, but that was an editorial judgment, not a published installation, battery, security, or reliability test.
- Lowest historical upfront price: Smart Lock + Connect at $102.42.
- Fewest separate components: The fourth-generation Wi‑Fi Smart Lock, because Wi‑Fi was integrated into the lock.
- Phone-free entry: The Wi‑Fi Smart Lock + Smart Keypad, which could support guest or household codes.
- Existing August owners: A bridge-based bundle or compatible standalone lock could avoid paying for a newer integrated design.
- Renters and preservation of existing keys: August’s retrofit approach can be attractive when replacing exterior deadbolt hardware is not allowed.
How August’s retrofit installation works
August locks generally replace the interior thumb-turn mechanism while leaving the outside cylinder and existing physical key in place. That differs from a full deadbolt replacement, which changes both sides of the door. Keeping the exterior cylinder provides a mechanical fallback, but compatibility is not automatic.
Check the door before buying
- Confirm that the existing deadbolt and door dimensions meet the model’s requirements.
- Operate the bolt manually. It should move smoothly without forcing the door.
- Make sure the door closes against the strike plate without pushing or pulling.
- After installation, complete the app’s calibration procedure.
A sagging door, misaligned strike plate, damaged deadbolt, or stiff bolt can make any smart lock unreliable. Retrofit installation may be less invasive, but it is not a guarantee of compatibility. The current Yale Approach product in the same ecosystem also describes installation over an existing deadbolt: Yale Approach Lock with Wi‑Fi Keypad Touch.
Bridge-based Wi‑Fi versus built-in Wi‑Fi
| Design | Advantages | Trade-offs |
|---|---|---|
| August Connect bridge | Historically cheaper; can add remote access to older August hardware | Needs an outlet, placement, network setup, and an additional device to maintain |
| Wi‑Fi built into the lock | Cleaner hardware arrangement and no separate bridge | Usually costs more; Wi‑Fi operation can affect battery consumption and still depends on network coverage |
August’s comparison page distinguishes models with “Wi‑Fi built in” from those with a “Wi‑Fi bridge included,” and identifies remote-access and platform support by model: Connected by August. Local Bluetooth operation is not the same as remote internet control. Remote control depends on the bridge or built-in Wi‑Fi, the home network, the cloud service, and the app.
Keypads, voice assistants, and everyday access
A keypad can help guests, children, cleaners, or anyone who does not want to unlock the door with a phone. Codes can also be useful for temporary or scheduled access. The trade-off is another battery-powered device, additional setup, and the need to remove old users and protect codes.
Rank #2

- ACCESS FOR ALL: Everyone in your household can come and go as they please by using Fingerprint touch, Auto-Lock, Auto-Unlock, custom entry codes on the Yale Keypad Touch, or the Yale Access app for ultimate convenience. *Already have an August Home account? August lists support for Alexa, Google Assistant, and, on applicable models, Siri/HomeKit. “Works with” does not mean identical commands across platforms: account linking, permissions, Wi‑Fi, and security settings can differ. The comparison page repeatedly qualifies Alexa and Google Assistant features as requiring Wi‑Fi.

- Bridge placement: Connect must stay powered and within useful range of both the lock and the router or network.
- Door alignment: A smart motor cannot reliably overcome a bolt that already binds.
- Low batteries: Enable warnings, keep a physical key available, and learn the model’s emergency-access procedure. Do not assume a phone or Wi‑Fi outage automatically causes lockout.
- App and account changes: Current August pages also promote Yale products. Check whether the exact lock uses the August app, Yale Access app, or both, and whether an older unit can still be registered and supported. See Yale and August.
- Used or old inventory: Confirm condition, warranty, registration eligibility, and software support before buying a legacy third-generation lock.
Is the $102.42 deal still available?
No. The $102.42 price applied to the November 2022 promotion and its stated Cyber Monday end date, November 28, 2022. A retained “buy” button on an old deal page does not make that price current.

August’s catalog and support pages do not show perfectly consistent pricing; for example, the support category displays a different Wi‑Fi Smart Lock figure. Verify the specific product page, availability, app compatibility, and checkout total immediately before purchase. Current deal listings are also collected at August’s smart-lock deals collection.
Bottom line for a current buyer
The $102.42 August Smart Lock + Connect bundle was compelling in 2022 for shoppers willing to use a separate bridge and retrofit an existing deadbolt. It is not a live deal now. Choose a current integrated Wi‑Fi model for a simpler hardware layout, a keypad bundle for code-based entry, or a Yale/August alternative after checking door compatibility, app support, and the price at checkout.
