The $100 Aqara doorbell is the Doorbell Camera G400 (Wired), not the newer G410 Doorbell Camera Hub. Aqara lists the G400 at $99.99 in the United States and says it supports Apple HomeKit Secure Video (HSV). The product is a wired-only model, so you will need suitable low-voltage doorbell wiring, compatible power equipment, reliable Wi-Fi, an Apple home hub, and an iCloud+ subscription for HSV recording.
The distinction matters because Aqara’s newer G410 costs $144.99 and adds battery operation, local storage, and a built-in smart-home hub.

G400 versus G410: the model confusion explained
Aqara’s current $99.99 wired doorbell is the Doorbell Camera G400 (Wired). It should not be confused with the Doorbell Camera Hub G410, which Aqara announced as its first doorbell camera hub and currently lists at $144.99 in the United States.
| Model | U.S. price seen | Power | HomeKit Secure Video | Best suited to |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| G400 Wired | $99.99 | Wired only | Yes | Affordable wired Apple Home installations |
| G410 Doorbell Camera Hub | $144.99 | Wired or six AA batteries | Yes | Buyers wanting an Aqara hub, local storage, or battery flexibility |
Prices and availability can change. The “first wired doorbell” wording is too broad to repeat without qualification: Aqara’s announcement describes the G410 as its first doorbell camera hub, while the roughly-$100 product currently being discussed is the G400 Wired.

This limitation also applies to Aqara Home when both platforms are used simultaneously.
- Reliable Hardwired Power & Stable Wi-Fi 6: You can utilize the high-efficiency PoE connection or reuse your existing 8–24V AC/DC wiring, simplifying the upgrade path while maintaining stability. Additionally, the Wi-Fi video doorbell supports both 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi 6 and meets WPA3 security standards for reliable and secure connections.

What HomeKit Secure Video actually provides
“Works with HomeKit Secure Video” does not mean the doorbell includes Apple’s recording service. The camera can be added to Apple Home, but HSV requires an active iCloud+ subscription and a supported Apple home hub.
Apple TV and HomePod are the practical current home-hub choices. Apple’s latest Home architecture does not support iPad as a home hub. The hub handles activity analysis privately and supports detection of people, pets, and vehicles. Apple says HSV recordings are end-to-end encrypted and can provide up to 10 days of activity history without counting against the user’s iCloud storage quota.

- Works with HomeKit Secure Video and All Major Ecosystems: Fully compatible with Apple HomeKit Secure Video (HSV) for encrypted recording, iCloud storage, and relevant notifications directly on Apple devices. Also compatible with Matter, Alexa, Google Assistant, SmartThings, and Home Assistant, integrating into your existing smart home setup.
- Built-In Aqara Zigbee & Matter Hub for Simple Device Control: No extra hub needed. This doorbell includes a built-in Zigbee and Matter hub, letting you connect and manage other smart devices—such as sensors, lights, and locks—directly through your doorbell camera. Simplify your setup while expanding your smart home possibilities.
- More Accurate Motion Detection with mmWave Radar: The advanced mmWave radar detects human presence with greater accuracy than traditional PIR sensors. Get smarter alerts without false triggers from pets, wind, or moving shadows, for a more secure and efficient video doorbell. (NOTE: Detection setting is adjustable in the app to increase sensitivity for quicker response.)
- Secure Cloud & Local Storage: Protect your footage with encrypted cloud storage hosted securely, keeping your data close and compliant. Prefer local storage? Insert a microSD card (up to 512GB, not included) for easy backup. The SD card slot is safely located in the Chime inside your home, preventing theft or unauthorized access.
- 2K Ultra HD Video, 95dB Built-in Chime, and Dual-Band Wi-Fi: Features a 2K wide-angle lens for crisp, detailed video. The built-in 95dB chime delivers loud and clear alerts. Supports 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi and meets WPA3 security standards for reliable and secure connections. *Note: When connected to Apple HomeKit, the resolution is limited to 1600×1200. This limitation also applies to Aqara Home when both platforms are used simultaneously.
- 50GB iCloud+: one camera.
- 200GB iCloud+: up to five cameras.
- 2TB or larger: unlimited cameras.
That means the G400 may avoid a separate Aqara cloud plan for Apple Home recording if you already pay for iCloud+, but it does not eliminate the need for iCloud+ itself. Aqara’s own app and third-party integrations may expose capabilities that Apple Home does not.

What the $99.99 G400 offers
The G400 is designed as a lower-cost, always-powered doorbell for homes that already have suitable wiring. Aqara lists these key specifications:
Rank #3
- 2K Video Doorbell Bundle for Entryway Protection: See faces and packages in sharp 2K from an IP65 doorbell built to withstand the elements, talk to visitors from your phone, and hear every ring anywhere with the included Arlo Chime 2.
- Arlo Secure Early Warning System Unlocks Advanced Features: Get 60-day video history, AI detection, and emergency response. A paid plan required after trial. Live streaming and basic alerts work without a subscription.
- Smart Alerts That Keep You Informed: Get notifications for package and pet detection, along with person and vehicle recognition. Intelligent detection helps reduce false alerts and keeps you connected wherever you are.
- Only Get Alerts That Matter: Set custom activity zones to monitor areas like your front door and pathway, and use privacy zones to block sensitive spaces while reducing unnecessary motion alerts for more meaningful notifications.
- Flexible Power for Easy Installation: Choose a wire-free setup with a rechargeable doorbell or hardwire to existing wiring for trickle charging and uninterrupted security.
- 2K video.
- 165-degree field of view.
- 3:4 vertical framing to show faces and packages closer to the ground.
- Dual-band Wi-Fi 6 on 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks.
- Apple HomeKit Secure Video support.
- Compatibility with Alexa, Google Assistant, and SmartThings.
- RTSP and ONVIF support for integrations such as an NVR or Home Assistant, subject to current firmware and configuration.
The G400 is not a battery doorbell that can optionally be wired. It is a wired product. Apple Home may not expose every feature available through Aqara’s app, RTSP, or ONVIF, so buyers should treat “HomeKit Secure Video support” as a platform-integration feature rather than a guarantee that every camera control appears in Apple Home.

The G410 costs about $45 more at Aqara’s listed U.S. price, but it is more than a higher-resolution doorbell. It combines the camera with an Aqara smart-home hub.
- 2K camera with a 175-degree field of view and 4:3 framing.
- Wired operation or battery operation using six LR6 AA alkaline batteries.
- 12–24V AC or DC hardwired input, according to Aqara’s specifications.
- mmWave radar for presence detection.
- Local face recognition.
- Built-in Matter controller, Zigbee hub, and Thread border-router functions.
- Local microSD storage up to 512GB, with the card sold separately.
- NAS backup and Aqara’s optional HomeGuardian cloud service.
- RTSP support when the unit is hardwired.
The G410 can record continuously only in the wired configuration with a microSD card, according to Aqara. Do not assume that HomeKit Secure Video alone provides 24/7 recording. Aqara also states that HSV use limits the maximum resolution to 1200p, despite the camera’s 2K specification in its native modes.

Aqara advertises battery life of up to five months, but that figure depends on activation frequency and environmental conditions. Frequent visitors, motion, live viewing, and cold weather can change the result.

Before buying the G400, inspect the existing doorbell installation rather than assuming any two doorbell wires will be sufficient.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →- Verify low-voltage wiring. Confirm that the entrance has an appropriate wired doorbell circuit and compatible transformer. Do not use the G410’s published 12–24V specification as a substitute for checking the G400’s own installation documentation.
- Check the chime. Existing mechanical or digital chimes may not all be compatible. Check Aqara’s current compatibility guidance and determine whether the included chime must be used.
- Test Wi-Fi at the mounting location. A strong signal inside the house does not guarantee reliable coverage through masonry, metal, or an exterior wall. The G400 supports 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi 6, but the entrance still needs adequate signal.
- Confirm Apple requirements. HSV recording requires iCloud+ and an Apple home hub. Buying the camera alone does not create a complete remote-recording system.
- Plan the installation safely. Turn off power before working on existing wiring and use a qualified electrician if the circuit, transformer, or chime is unclear.
For the G410, Aqara specifies 12–24V AC or DC for hardwired operation. Its included chime/repeater is powered through USB-C, while battery operation uses six replaceable AA alkaline batteries.

Recommended setup path
- Install and power the doorbell according to Aqara’s hardware instructions.
- Use the Aqara Home app first to connect Wi-Fi, update firmware, configure the chime and motion settings, and enable any Aqara-specific storage or detection features.
- Add the camera to Apple Home using the HomeKit setup code or the supported Aqara-to-Apple Home flow.
- Check that the Apple Home household has an active home hub.
- On current Apple software, check Settings → [your name] → iCloud → Show All → Home and enable Home if necessary.
- Configure HSV recording options and notification categories in Apple Home.
- Test live view, doorbell alerts, two-way audio, recorded events, and remote access while away from the home network.
If Apple Home shows “Home Hub Required” or “Software Update Required,” check Home Settings → Home Hubs & Bridges and update the Apple TV or HomePod before resetting the doorbell. Menu names can vary with iOS, Apple Home architecture, Aqara firmware, and app versions; Apple’s home-hub troubleshooting guide has the current checks.
Which Aqara doorbell should you buy?
Choose the G400 if:
- You specifically need a wired doorbell.
- You already have an Apple home hub and iCloud+.
- Your priority is the lowest upfront cost.
- 2K video, vertical framing, and Apple Home integration are sufficient.
- You want RTSP or ONVIF flexibility and have confirmed the current implementation meets your needs.
Choose the G410 if:
- You want a battery option as well as hardwired installation.
- You will use its Matter, Thread, or Zigbee hub functions.
- You want local microSD or NAS storage.
- mmWave detection and local face recognition justify the added cost.
- You want 24/7 local recording with wired power and a microSD card.
Reconsider either model if:
- Your home lacks suitable wiring or has uncertain transformer and chime compatibility.
- You need PoE or Ethernet rather than Wi-Fi and low-voltage power.
- You expect HSV to work without iCloud+ or an Apple home hub.
- You require the highest available resolution specifically inside Apple Home.
- You want a completely Apple-only setup with no Aqara app or account involvement.
Alternatives for different ecosystems
The Logitech Circle View Doorbell is a more Apple-focused wired alternative, listed by Logitech at roughly $200. It requires an existing 8–24V AC, 10VA-or-higher doorbell installation and does not offer Aqara’s Matter, Zigbee, Thread, RTSP, or local-storage features.
The wired third-generation Google Nest Doorbell is listed at $179.99 and targets Google Home rather than HomeKit Secure Video. Google specifies a 16–24VAC, 10–40VA transformer and compatible chime. It is a poor fit for buyers who specifically want native Apple Home integration.

Verdict
The headline’s underlying deal is real, but the model needs correcting. The Aqara G400 Wired is the roughly-$100 product to consider if you want an affordable wired doorbell with Apple HomeKit Secure Video, provided you already have—or are willing to add—an Apple home hub and iCloud+.
The G410 is not simply the same doorbell at the same price. It costs more because it adds battery operation, local storage, smart-home hub functions, and additional detection features. For a straightforward wired Apple Home installation, the G400 is the better value; for an Aqara-centered smart home, the G410 may justify the premium.
